Having played a version of this game somewhat recently, I can tell you from experience that you can get all of your stats to 18/00 eventually. Monsters encountered on Dungeon levels 20-30 will drop potions that can permanently increase a stat, and you can take your time and farm those levels long enough to get like everything to the max, if you want to grind for that long. That said, those stats are not the only limiting factor in the game. If you're, say, a warrior, there will be a hard limit on your ability to use some specific magic items, a wizard would be able to use some things that a warrior cannot, even if they both have maximum Int scores. The shovel (+0,+0) (+1) is a shovel that gives +1 to digging. The first two stats in the first set of parentheses are combat stats like any melee weapon, the second set of parentheses denotes digging. So it's a magic shovel, which explains why it was 200gp. Also you have to haggle, as far as I know, and Charisma effects that to some extent, from what I remember.

I remember spending a lot of time on this game. The best I ever did was getting to depth of 3750ft with a Paladin. After you get to a certain depth, the de-buffs from the higher level monsters become extremely punishing and if you get too many in quick succession, that's the end. Well hey there's always the god-mode code if you wanna get down to the bottom floors and fight the Balrog. I would suggest using a Gnome Ranger if you want to do that. Also bring multiple copies of all the spellbooks too as backup.

I have dowloaded the umoria.exe (v5.7.15) and the walls are displayed using hash signs which is not as comfortable as the walls in the video. Is it possible to change the character used for rendering walls?
@smbhax20003 жыл бұрын
Not in that official version, I don't think. There are Moria variants that do--The one used here--he links it in the video description--and well, the one I know is Donnie Russell's SDL version, which has a different visual look. It's also based on an older version of Moria.
@franciskelly51474 жыл бұрын
You can "save-scum" the windows version of umoria, if you're so inclined. When you die, or at any time you want to go back to your last saved position in the game, you simply close the window that umoria is running in (using the windows "x" button on the upper right of the window the game runs inside of). This stops the game without saving and when you reload again, it will start you at your last saved position. You can avoid death this way even if the game throws up the "you died" screen. Just don't enter any text at the prompt and don't hit enter, close the window and you'll be fine. You'll lose whatever progress you had since your last save, so save early and often.

@kosterix1234 жыл бұрын
@@babycloud1597 Don't bother with moria then, it is far too simple for you. After DF everything is trivial. The greatest part of moria for me is the so-called collective memory. You encounter something weird in a deep cavern and pressing lowercase l brings you some partial knowledge on the creature's attack behavior and other properties. For example a mushroom that does not deign [sic] to pursue mortals.

umoria (this version) works perfectly in Windows 7. I also had it on atari ST - but the screen was too white. I also ran it on nintendo ds, but lost the way to redo it. EDIT it was actually called Angband, for ppl that thought moria was too easy. I never found the amulet at the bottom though.

There may well be two different command sets - there were in my version. You can switch between roguelike commands or Moria's natural command set. If you go to the Help screen by pressing ? it'll show you how to toggle between the two. Likely then it will work for you. (Or else you have caps lock on?)
