i don't like the gross aspects of the art, like the nidhogg looking cancerous, or the over-designed aspects, like the castle's start screen. i liked the clean, simple look of the first game, if they just took that and made it more advanced, smoother and with the rough parts polished out, that would've been fine.

Nidhogg 2 is hideous compared to the first... The first game benefitted from its aestetic simplicity. The minimalistic graphics on colorful backgrounds provided a stark contrast to the violent gameplay and visceral sound effects. Nidhogg 2 threw all that out the window to try to make itself unfunny Earthworm Jim Mortal Kombat. But this video proves that age-old lesson that even an okay game is made great with good friends.

This is Nidhogg 2, not Nidhogg 1. I don't think it's updated graphics as much as just a different style entirely. I don't get why people are comparing the two when they are separate games with the same concept. If you like the the first one, play the first one. That simple.

Especially considering this game doesn't really seem to vary all that much from the first game other than a different visual and weapons. They're not all that matter, but if it's so damn ugly that you have trouble or feel uncomfortable looking at the screen, it makes it kind of hard to watch or play. Graphics aren't everything, but they do matter. If the music was so godawful that it made you play the game in mute, that would also ruin your enjoyment.

Jack v Matt: Matt had slightly less clue what the hell he was doing than everyone else, which helped Jack clinch the win since Matt chased him futilely for the entire final screen. Michael v Ryan: Michael got the early lead and Ryan was on the defensive the entire time, though he put up a good fight and still made him work for it, especially toward the end when he started getting a bit more clever. Jeremy v Geoff: Poor Geoff. You can tell he just had no confidence in himself, so Jeremy pretty much just steamrolled him. Alfredo v Lindsay: Lindsay had about as much confidence as Geoff, but Alfredo was really overcautious in this match, probably partly out of unfamiliarity and partly because Lindsay got the upper hand early (mostly through luck) and he was just really desperate not to lose to Lindsay of all people. Plus, the stage itself makes it very easy to trap an opponent and stall his progress, so Lindsay managed to hold on for quite a while even once Alfredo started hitting his stride. Jack v Michael: Probably the biggest upset just because of how completely Jack dominated it after taking an early lead. Kind of Michael v Ryan, but in reverse. Alfredo v Jeremy: Started out as a real comedy of errors, as both were really thrown off by the ice and still didn't understand the controls well. Alfredo mostly won because he picked up the game's controls and timing a little bit faster than Jeremy did, which allowed him to take the lead and keep it. Jack v Alfredo: This would be the biggest upset if Jack v Michael hadn't already shown that Jack has a good grasp of the game's timing and is able to use that to his advantage once he takes the lead. Alfredo hung on longer than Michael, but he just couldn't recover fast enough to stop Jack from basically blitzing him and winning the championship in record time. So basically: Matt had no idea what he was doing and couldn't figure it out in time, Ryan took too long to start getting clever, Geoff just had no confidence in himself from the start, Lindsay was able to use an early stroke of luck and the round's terrain to stave off the inevitable and hold on for quite a while, Michael just got blitzed, Jeremy was just a touch slower to figure out the game's quirks than his opponent, and Alfredo had the same problem in the finals. And finally, Geoff might have been joking about how many hours Jack's put into the game, but it's very clear that he's the one with the most experience actually playing the game and thus had a big advantage, since the game's really mostly about knowing the timing for things.

I've been debating whether or not to buy Niddhog 2 for a while. I loved the original, and the gameplay looks like it's been expanded a lot, and the online is probably a LOT more popular right now. The art for the most part is way better too, although I did like the simple design just fine too. It's just those dang character models… Oh well, the gameplay easily trumps the art. And hey, at least they stand out
