The best call that could have been made in the final round was 1 yellow. Because so long as there is 1 yellow or a joker, you have almost certainly won, especially if you DON'T have a yellow in hand. It is the final bluff.

It would not be entirely a random bid. 1 card versus 1 card the optimal bet if you have anything but a wildcard is 1 yellow. This forces the onus onto your opponent to make the hard decision (do you have a yellow or not) and gives you a 2/5 chance of being right (because they have a yellow or rainbow) even if you don't have a yellow yourself. If you do have a yellow your opponent can only win by having either a yellow or a wildcard himself. Your opponents best move in that case is what Dom did here which is 2 of whatever color he has. This is because you could easily have a yellow or wildcard so calling has quite high odds (unless he sees a tell indicating you are lying) of resulting in a loss, but going two of whatever card he has is basically going for a 40% chance of a win (higher if he has a yellow/wild). If you have a wildcard you can do the same bid as it is similar to having a yellow but you are at greater risk if they don't call (i.e. a bid of 2 whatever they have will win). So you are slightly better off going 1 white to try to bait your opponent into going cautiously and picking what they have (if it's white they will go 2 white and you'll lose) this leaves you in a position to go 2 of whatever they say. Which forces the call which they can only win if they didn't go with the color they have.

Surely in a 1v1 with 1 card each, the first player should say 1 yellow. If you or the other player has a yellow or joker you're safe and the other player can't be sure you haven't got one. It means the other player has to say 2 of something if they're unsure about calling.

Ok so I am slightly confused. The pregame rules stated. You can only Increase Count of Vests OR You can only Upgrade Vests - White > Blue > Pink > Yellow. You don't even have to maintain the count if you upgrade the colour, starting a new count with the new higher teir colour. Yet in game, they are changing backwards into different colours after hitting Yellow. One point they go from Pink to White, Yellow to Blue, etc. So either there was an unmentioned, incorrect rulling (Pre/During Game) or a house rule which says that as long as you still increase the count, you can change to any colour??? Round 1 Sully - 5 Yellow. Dom - 9 Yellow. Holly - 10 White Laurie - 11 White Viggo - 11 Yellow Sully - 12 Blue Round 2 Sully - 5 Blue Dom - 5 Pink Holly - 6 White Laurie - 7 White Viggo - 7 Yellow Sully - 8 Blue Dom - 9 Pink Holly - 10 White Laurie - 11 White I mean, it keeps the game going and such, but I must be missing something unmentioned if thats fine.

As far as I understand it, it's the same rules as in contract bridge, you can call higher colour of vest for the same number, but if you want to go back to lower vest, you need to call higher number.
