Welcome to my full walkthrough of "Riven: The Sequel to Myst," a captivating puzzle-solving, point-and-click, first-person exploration game developed by Cyan. In this "amnesia run," I'm playing the new real-time, fully-3D remake, released on June 25, 2024. This version features stunning updated graphics, improved controls, enhanced puzzles, and VR support.
Continuing the story from 1993's "Myst," I once again control "the Stranger," who must assist Atrus, an artisan and explorer, in rescuing his wife Catherine from the clutches of Gehn, Atrus's manipulative father and ruler of Riven: a beautiful world of interconnected islands. To save Catherine and return safely, I'll need to unravel the intricate mysteries of Riven, learn about its inhabitants, and confront the power-hungry Gehn. Who's telling the truth? What does that switch do? How do I open this door? Join me on this let's play to uncover all the answers!
Originally released by Cyan on October 31, 1997, "Riven" garnered critical acclaim and became the best-selling game of the year. Unlike its predecessor, this follow-up offers a more directionless approach to its puzzles and storytelling, but rewards with its expansive world building, deep lore, and gorgeous design. It's a game that has captivated me since I first played it 27 years ago, and I’m thrilled to dive into this modern remake and share the adventure with you.

Well slap my ass and ride me down Highway 65, no way this is real! Jon, I swear I was JUST thinking about your channel. I even looked you up a few days ago because I wanted to get a trip down memory lane. Like most fans, I found you from the microwave show, but I also kept up with your lets plays and other content once that show ended. The lets plays that really stuck with me were the Mario Partys and Earthbound. Earthbound is actually the reason I thought of you recently, as I'm currently playing through the game on the Switch for the very first time! Its been long enough since your lets play and my current play through that I actually forgot most of what happens, so its like I'm experiencing the game all over again, although your voice popped into my head every time the teleporting guys in Fourside said "Hello... and goodbye!" Somehow, that specific memory never left. Anyway, welcome back! How has the time between this video and your last video been?

At first I thought I was taking crazy pills. It's 110% the same game, right down to the vibe, the sounds, the music and the story, but with the free roaming we've always longed for, but they've moved a couple things around. Memory is fuzzy and it's been over 25 years, but too often I found myself going "wasn't there supposed to be a room in here somewhere?"

Right?! The room with the three small TV screens where you open the door to the Temple / Throne room was my first clue - because I definitely remember that being a left turn off a hallway... not a dead end by the star fissure area. Really keeping me on my toes in this playthrough!
