Thanks so much, my friend! Really well done (as usual) and shows off the system nicely. Thanks!

Thanks Herm! I spent a lot of time on this one, and I'm proud how it came out. I think it should be a good resource for your game and system.

Wayne, Another great video. I appreciated the running commentary as you explained both the rules and the tactics you were going to apply. Even with the fire combat issues the phantomcapain13 mentioned, the came was actually really, really close. If the 1st Texans had rolled a little better, it would have been a CSA victory. I hope you will video another scenario.

99th Pennsylvania is still in command because of the road which counts as a half space per road space. That is, command range goes twice as far if you can draw down a road, think of it historically, staff messengers running orders on horseback or foot have a way easier time finding the unit they are going to on a road or path rather than through the woods. Ward can draw diagonally to the road and then straight down the road to 99th. Also, 124th NY 2/2 can't fire as they are behind the battery. You could spend an action to move them in front but then then they will be the ones taking fire or the charge if 1st Texas goes to assault! When stacked, only the unit on top can fire but they get the support bonus. The bottom unit in a stack can't fire. Same goes for the 86th NY, etc. Finally, you didn't use the road bonus for the 15th Georgia either, they could have done the pivot for free and then moved on the road and moved another space/pivot for free! Nice vid! You got my subscription.

Thanks for the comment. Where in the rules does it say only the top unit in a stack can Fire? Also, in the rules, being "Supported" is only referenced during Close Combat or a Unit Morale Check.

@@WayneHansen Hey Wayne, it's actually under H (Movement), number 3. a.) The unit on top of the stack is considered to be in front of the unit on the bottom of the stack for all purposes. This means only the top unit can attack in combat or be targeted in combat. (exception: artillery area fire). And yep, as soon as I mentioned the supported bonus I knew I was mixing it up with close combat.

So if Smith's battery is in front and fires the New Yorkers can't. The 124th could spend an action to pass through the battery and be in front though but then the battery couldn't fire. Or you could just move the 124th down the slope one space. With a defend order they could then fire and go to ground enabling Smith's battery to fire over them without obstruction if you time it right. This is exactly the mechanic Hermann needs when they do something like Pickett's Charge with all the US artillery right behind the US troops laying down behind the small stone wall and firing directly over them. I love this game and system and have been playing a lot!! The gone to ground mechanic is really cool and I love how the mechanics make so many things about this system so deeply tactical. I really have to think ahead about what I want everyone to do every turn and coordination is everything.

Wow you're right, there is one throwaway sentence tucked into H3a that says only the top unit can Fire. I would like to see that mentioned somewhere else as well, such as the section for Fire combat.
