@@irishrunner27 There are plenty of other cards in alternate treatments/foils that are $30+ as well right now, its not just Nissa. A halo foil Sigarda in the alternate frame is like $35 despite the regular version being $1.50, for example. Nissa is just the only one whose regular printing carries that high a price. The set still sucks but she's not literally the only chase card.

@@winkelfilms i won't defend sending the goon squad to physically collect the stuff but he leaked the cards and that's the only reason any of it happened. wotc didn't freak out because he got mailed some boxes early they freaked out because he got mailed some boxes early and decided to leak set. we can still recognize that he made a bad decision that directly lead to this outcome even if the outcome was stupid.

@TheMoops I was discussing this angle at my LGS the other week. All anyone could say was how insane sending the Pinkertons to that poor KZbinr was. I totally agree with it being insane, but I don’t agree with how people always make the other side the victim when in this case both parties are in the wrong. I had been following that KZbinr before this happened and he plugs his affiliate links every video. As someone that’s supposedly passionate about the game and making money off it too, I personally feel it was really scummy to obliterate spoiler season for everyone just for a quick buck and/or some clout on his channel. I personally find it very odd that he chose to upload it.

I believe someone did some digging and found that there were Pinkertons who works in executive roles in Wizard or Hasbro. I forget the specifics. So technically, they hired due to nepotism instead of hiring other no good mercenary private hired goons available in the market.

I got a booster box, which had 60 packs in it, for only $19.99 back then. With tax, it worked out to .36 cents per pack. Fun times. Hope these drop by a similar amount.

I actually played the booster [pack] game at my LGS last week, because since the set was so unpopular, no one had bought much or traded anything in so I couldn't buy singles. And since collector boosters are so cheap, I just bought packs hoping to pull the singles I wanted lol Traded in everything I didn't need, rinse repeat until I pulled the stuff I wanted. Actually ended up going net-positive because I pulled quite a few nissas, and this was after her spike~

Honestly, the collector booster had more "value" because of the chase rare foils. As a regular MTG player, I can't and don't want to risk paying $20 for playing a foil that's just $5 to $7 on a normal card.

I think it's important to keep in mind that WotC most likely expected this set to fail the way it did. From a business point of view, this product is merely meant to condition people. They know people won't abandon the game in large masses and people can't complain with such intensity every time, so they'll keep releasing products like this one and in a matter of years people will have gotten used to this situation and accept it as being bad but simply being the way it has been the, at that point, last few years before that.

When I go to open play at my LGS, I often buy a loose pack and a snack when there's no entry free. And I bought one aftermath pack. Three treatments of Animist's Might out of five cards was enough to confirm a hard pass on daring a second.

I saw that these were being sold off for 115 Euro and decided to buy one box. I got really lucky with the cards, but I'm glad I knew about tepeat cards and ordered only one box. And I actually got all the cards I wanted and about twice the value I paid. Still, I'm glad that we are done with this type of booster after Assasssin's Creed!
