I still remember how I felt when I first learned that. It was almost six months ago, actually; my first ever playthrough of Undertale was in late April of this year. I had killed some characters on my first run. Toriel, Undyne, and a few other monsters, probably. And every time I saw that my LOVE had increased...I was happy. Happy to have more HP, _so I would hurt less._ So when this was revealed to me..I felt horrible. I think that was the first time a video game made me feel genuinely, terribly guilty for my actions.

What if it's Gaster, or River Person? The game sais during Genocide a cloaked figure is watching you. The river peron is the only character we know to wear a hood and they seem to know things not even Sans or Flowey do. Plus, we know NOTHING about them. What they look like, there name, where they come from etc. So it's entirely possible they see, hear and witness everything. Maybe they can even speak in places their body currently isn't? I mean, the river person is OBVIOUSLY based of off the Grim Reaper, Death themselves. Some versions of The Reaper depict them on a boat. Plus, that line ONLY appears in the Genocide Route, when you kill monsters, so it makes sence that Death is looming in the distance. And in judgement hall, you get judged if you kill monsters, so Death being there makes sence.

Sans (and Flowey) clearly know what "LOVE" is, so there'd be no reason to suddenly have "the game" explain something, when _he's standing right there!_

The first time I played Undertale I only knew you could “be good to monsters”. So I spared all the bosses but killed some random enemies in order to level up. I do feel like you can’t appreciate Sans’ judgment unless you’ve killed something. We’ve been playing jrpgs for years and this is what we were used to. Sans really gave us a new perspective on everything we were taught since we were children. “It’s ok to kill things if that’s the way everybody is used to.” I feel lucky being judged, I do feel like I’ve actually learnt something, not like these guys who didn’t kill anyhting not because they felt like it was the right choice, but because they already kinda knew how the game would have been. Sad
