I honestly think that The Judgement is more powerful in a Neutral route than in the True Pacifist. This is the point in the game where most people realize, once and for all, that you as the player are not in the right to push people around in order to get what you want, unlike most RPGs. The fact that Sans does not directly state the judgement and what your punishment is or should be makes it even more powerful, as you're usually harder on yourself than anyone else could ever be, and if you have any feeling at all, Sans knows you're going to beat yourself up over the few or many you've killed.

Even though I agree with you, I do think the judgement in True Pacifist does its job pretty well too since the feeling you get from it is pretty wholesome. You didn't kill anyone and Sans congratulates you for getting so far through the game without hurting anyone. You do good in this game and you feel good.

Lucas Martinez I agree with that. I feel that the only "weak judgement" came in the Genocide Route, as it is pretty well glossed over in light of the incredible fight Sans puts up. There is certainly something there, as he reveals that he knows about resets, but it's overlooked.

I feel like there's not really a way to have a judgement as moving as the other routes in the genocide route. You already know what you're doing is bad, but you've distanced yourself enough to not care. It's just a game after all! And we'll just reset to make it all better, right??? Honestly the worst part of the fight for me, was getting dunked on, with the words "if we're really friends, you won't come back" and then when I came back, and attacked, he says "i guess that means we never really WERE friends, huh? heh. don't tell that to the other sans-es, okay?" that broke my determination completely for some time. not even his closing words regarding Papyrus hit me that hard. By then, I was too numb. :|

Looking at it, I suppose that would be true. In no other route does Sans *really* swear off his friendship or even would-be friendship with you, even after you've killed his brother, so to hear that in the one route you feel most awful about could hit you pretty hard. I still personally feel as though the Neutral Route judgement is the most powerful, though, because it may not hit most players until then that what they've been doing on Gamer's Instinct is, in fact, immoral in this game, as it would be in real life.

I agree. Though honestly what shook me up the most in the whole genocide run was when fuckin FLOWEY was trembling in fear of us and saying this isn't a good plan anymore. That fuck who tried so hard to goad us into killing him before, and mercilessly killed us dozens if not hundreds of times, and assisted us in our whole genocide run. Suddenly, that psychopath is afraid of what we've become... WHAT HAVE I BECOME!? ...and THEN I stepped into the next room to have a bad time.

Heck, Tobby said in an interview that he thinks pacifist routes are way too easy thus making violent routes redundant (which is why you never level up through pacifist means here and why Genocide Route is so unique)

Yup. Sans says that the higher your level, the more you distance yourself and the less you will be hurt. “The less you will be hurt.” He just explained the reason your Health increases. It’s not because you are stronger. It means your soul is more resilient because it doesn’t care as much. The theme of Undertale is Determination. Your health is how determined you are to survive, and it increases when you abandon the only other things you might care about.

my reaction was closer to Marriland's. i just thought you HAD to kill some of them at least to "level up". boy was i shocked to learn otherwise! i first learned otherwise at the Undyne fight when she brings up the name of a monster i killed before. it was then i realized that killing monsters was no light matter in this game and not something i really SHOULD do, i also felt really bad and decided to spare all the rest. also i dont get why people keep trying to get Lets Players who are playing the game for the first time ever to not kill anything. like seriously? the judgement is far more profound in the end if you messed up and killed some. most people play it like an normal RPG at first thinking that you have to level up. i actually look forward to seeing how people react to seeing how their "mistakes" have affected the game. i killed some monsters on my first playthrough which is why when i got the the judgement part it really deeply affected me. i think people should STOP telling lets players how to play Undertale, your defeating the purpose of Undertale!

What's sad is that at the beginning of the game, i didn't know you could spare EVERYONE. So when the Toriel boss fight came, I pressed talk and when it said it did nothing...... I thought there was no way to spare her lol (this was before I heard of the different routes). So I ended up sparing EVERYONE apart from poor goatmum 😂😂 I still feel really bad..

Not necessarily... What he's talking about is an explanation on why Lv increasing also makes you "stronger". It's about how other's attacking you effects you less and less because you care that much less (HP) and how it's easier for you to really go for a killing blow when you attack others (ATK). It's a different perspective on just the numbers that increase with your EXP and LV

When the game starts counting down how many monsters are left, you stop seeing them as people and you start seeing them as obstacles to completing the game. I don’t think it has to do with chara or frisk or whatever. Sans is talking directly to the player, and it’s appeal to them to change their ways

No one comments on the fact that they explain how health works in the game. They say that the higher your LOVE and the more EXP, the more you distance yourself and the less you will hurt (as in the less you will BE hurt). It literally means if you have more LOVE, you will retreat into yourself, making it _more difficult for you to get hurt._
