I like that take on Zuko. Sure he had to redeem his actions at the end of season 2, but he really was always a good guy who thought he had to do bad because maybe his father would finally love him... until he caught on what a monster his father was.
@jamesmallone4 жыл бұрын
I remember when I watched ATLA. When Zuko showed up it was clear pretty quick he wasn't much of a villain. It's more like he's the other protagonist.
@annabelfazukimi79024 жыл бұрын
Honestly he's just as much of a victim as his sister. Like Iroh called her crazy but the Emerald Island episode showed how damaged Zuko, Azula, Mai and Tylee were by their own circumstances(even if Tylee complained about being in a set match and then joined the Kyoshi Warriors)
@matthewmazzatto8003 Жыл бұрын
Zuko was definitely a better person than the rest of the royal bloodline, but to say he didn't need to change at all is off. Lines like "Out of my way! Step aside filth!" still convey his impulsiveness, anger, and pride. Season 1 Zuko looks down on people he views as inferior to him, which is basically everyone besides his immediate family. That doesn't fully stem from Zuko being a victim of Ozai's abuse; it also stems from the culture he was raised in thinking very little of the Earth Kingdom commoners and the poorer citizens of the Fire Nation. It takes a lot of growth for Zuko to respect people from other nations. He does change significantly over the course of the show from someone who's quick to lash out (mirroring the attitude of his culture) to someone who's a lot more mellow but still very driven.

Fillmore was one of those shows that I didn't click with as a kid but just adore watching as an adult. The sheer novelty and weirdness of watching each of the parodies being balanced with actual character moments and usually good morals is a delight. It has a brilliant brand of humor where every single moment, oddness, and ridiculous aspect of X Middle School is played 100% straight. It's like Leslie Nielsen's deadpan delivery as a show. Maybe its more accurate to call Zuko's character arc a "rehabilitation arc." Zuko was extremely outwardly aggressive towards others, which is common for victims of abuse, but also behavior that needs to changed and WAS changed in Zuko's case. Zuko absolutely had the most character growth through out Avatar.
@matthewmazzatto8003 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Lily claiming that Zuko didn't need to change at all is erroneous. Zuko's rage and pride would've eventually landed him in major trouble, just like it did for Jet when Long Feng killed him. Him mellowing out throughout the course of the series and getting away from his toxic culture (not just his tyrannical father) is what helped Zuko evolve as a person.

Some of my favorite shows as a kid were (in no particular order): Pokémon: I remember as a wee lad watching the occasional episode from the original season (Beach Blankout Blastoise and Go West Young Meowth were among my favorites) but I didn't get into it in real time until about halfway through the Hoenn saga. I watched maybe a few episodes of Sinnoh, and I got back into it for Unova and Kalos, completely missed Alola, and am currently working through Journeys on Netflix. Advanced Battle still has my favorite opening. The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: I was a huge fan of Winnie the Pooh as a kid (still am to this day) and watching this show on Playhouse Disney and also on VHS, (yes I'm an old geezer) was one of my favorite things to do. One of my favorite episodes was the one where Rabbit adopts a baby bird and literally develops Empty Nest syndrome when he realizes she's going to be old enough to fly soon. Jimmy Neutron: I don't know why, but between Jimmy Neutron, Fairly Odd Parents, and SpongeBob, I enjoyed Jimmy Neutron the best as a kid. Still not sure why. The Wild Thornberrys: I loved Animals as a kid, despite my apartment not allowing pets, and this show was always a fun ride for me. I also owned the movie as a kid, which I would watch regularly. Avatar the Last Airbender: I would probably be ridiculed on the street and branded a heretic if I said I didn't watch this show growing up. It was fun as a kid, but I fell behind by 2007 because of personal reasons unrelated to the show. A month or so ago I binged the whole show on Netflix and realized how many episodes of season three I'd actually watched on TV when they aired (even the blood bending episode, which actually creeps me out more as an adult than it did as a kid).

Ikki and Medabee are the main reason to watch that show and there's no way in hell 60-80% of their dialogue wasn't made up for the dub. This idea that TT was super serious is baffing to me, I would guess it comes from an audience that watched it as kids and lack proper perspective? This is also true of Pokemon. Pokemon Sun and Moon had a super sad storyline about a stray cat, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a light-hearted comedy most of the time.

Try watching the original Transformers cartoon for the first time as an adult. Good god most of that was torturous. Nostalgia's a hell of a thing for some people apparently.

Transformers has really well made action scenes. Too bad it's squashed in between the uninteresting talks.

I rewatched Teen Titans a couple weeks ago. A lot a skippable episodes. But also a decent amount of episodes I liked as well.

Remembering the treatment Little Witch Academia got, I was expecting Cardcaptors to be a the bottom. I guess almost right is close enough.
@StardustWhip4 жыл бұрын
There's precisely _one_ thing Cardcaptors erased from the source material that it shouldn't have: the gayness. Like, Sakura's brother ends up getting together with his best friend who Sakura had been crushing on for most of the series, _Sakura's_ best friend has a crush on her, maybe some other stuff I'm forgetting... It's not a lot, but if Nelvana had kept it in, it would've been infinitely more than any other cartoon had at the time. And we could never know for sure, but maybe if that stuff had made it to North America in the year 2001, gay crushes and getting together in the last episode wouldn't be so constantly praised as "GrOuNdBrEaKiNG" here in the year 2020...

It's worth pointing out that it would have been barred from being aired in the US if that were the case. Actually BEING Gay wasn't decriminalized there until 2003. As for Cardcaptors, I disagree. The gay content in Cardcaptors was always very much of the "Creepy Stalker" vibe and we do not need any more of those.

Liked the video even though I hadn't heard of/watched the majority of these shows. Also, thanks for reminding my of Lilo and Stitch the series and Pokemon Black and White those are things my brain cast aside even though I watched a whole lot of them. Edit: I accidentally put "Lily" and Stitch and I feel stupid😬

Oh actually, the first Pokémon i ever played was Pokemon Colosseum, which is technically Gen 3. But my first mainline Pokémon game was Platinum and my favorite Generation is Gen 4. I don't know i count then as someone who's favorite Gen is different from the first they played.
@TheJcjonesacp Жыл бұрын
6:08 you mentioned the generation favorites, my first Pokémon game was fire red and leaf green, I watched the original Pokémon anime starting from kanto, my favorite generation is actually gen 4 however, different from where I started.

My first Pokemon generation was 2, but 3 has always been my favorite. Hoenn was such a nice region with some awesome pokemon and the games were such fun.
@xormak39354 жыл бұрын
Honestly i always preferred Hoenn region arc in pokemon even tho i watched the Kanto one first. Possibly because i got my hands on a copy of Emerald before Leaf green but who knows. ALSO! THE WEEKENDERS! Actually no, most of these are great memories at this point. Teen Titans, Dave, 6Teen (the few episodes that aired here), Fillmore, Fairly Odd Parents And of course. Kim HECKIN Possible.

My number one would definitely be My Life as a Teenage Robot. I freaking love that show.

Medabots was my shit back in the day. It was so over the top and off the wall that even when it tried to be serious, it was too ridiculous to take seriously. And that opening theme, my god, it gets me hyped every time.

Oh hey, I'm someone whose favorite pokemon gen wasn't the first they played! The first game I played to completion was Omega Ruby, with the official first being either Leaf Green or Ruby. But my favorite gen is 4, specifically because I adore SoulSilver. I have yet to play Diamond, Pearl or Platinum.
@DarkSoulsSauron4 жыл бұрын
I've been around since gen1 pokemon, and at least when the games are concerned, my favorite generation is 4. It's when the games started to actually become mechanically interesting and you could really cultivate a team of your favorites because a lot of people's favorite pokemon were ruined by type-dictated physical/special splits. gen4 fixed that

That line of not having met anyone who’se favorite pokemon generation is the first they’ve played made me have a revelation and a crisis at the same time because it’s true

As a kid Kim Possible was also my fav show for a long time so much so that when I played with dolls and stuff I always pretended they were cool spies and I also seemed to have forgotten just how much I loved the show so suddenly hearing the opening beeping call noise from the show, my excitement suddenly came out of nowhere (ALSO I'M REALLY HAPPY TO SEE THE WEEKENDERS AS # 2 I LOVED THAT SHOW NO ONE TALKS ABOUT IT and I actually rewatched it all at 18 when I was going through a tough time it helped a lot)
