Iceland has started the journey of choosing their act for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö.
Tonight five artists performed during the first Semi-final of Söngvakeppnin 2024, and once all of the televotes were counted Væb with "Bíómynd / Movie Scene" and Anita with "Stingum af / Downfall" were announced as the night's qualifiers.
The show was broadcast live from the Truenorth Studios, and was hosted by Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir, Sigurður Þorri Gunnarsson, and Unnsteinn Manuel Stefánsson.

Stingum af actually means “let’s run away together” or “let’s get out of here” (in this chase let’s run away together) :) Just a little Icelandic lesson

I feel like i need to explain something. In songvakeppnin they are required to sing in icelandic in the semis, then they change to the permanent version in the finals. Both of those songs will be changed into English for finals, with Væb having most of the rapping in icelandic. Bíómynd means Movie and the english title is Movie scene. This is a bit of a silly song but the beat is so catchy :D They are brothers and their mom competed in songvakeppnin when they were little. Aníta's aunt is Selma Bjorns that ended up 2'nd place in eurovision 1999.

My favourite was Ceasetone. His song is so beautiful, especially if you convert the lyrics into English and read into them. He's played alongside Dadi Freyr and so was inspired by him! So sad he didnt get through!

I don't know.... I wasn't surprised when Anita and Væb qualified but I was very disapointed. I wanted Blankiflúr to go though so bad 😭💔 If either of these win Söngvakeppnin we will not qualify so maybe we should just withdraw.

Let's be honest Murad is gonna win but I hope he won't qualify in semi 2 cause the song is shit tbh
