His style was certainly unique, but he truly was the greatest writer while he lived (and not just in America either). No Country for Old Men is definitely his most accessible book, but also imo one of his best. One of my favorites of his, anyway. There's a passage at the very end of the book involving a stone trough which is one of my favorite passages in literature, period. I do hope you come away enjoying the story; it's both visceral and thrilling but also deeply thoughtful as well. And the movie is a modern classic, for sure. :)

Welcome to McCarthy's unique style! It takes a while to get used to it. I read this a few years ago and I liked the story but it is definitely challenging to read. Good luck!

@@binglamb2176 so this is how he writes all his books?

@@dustinneely I've read The Border Trilogy and Blood Meridian and, yes, that's his trademark style.

Wow, no quotation marks is an… interesting choice. On the bright side, that mug is awesome

@@_Booksphere_ no quotations is weird, but the sentence fragments are driving me crazy.

@@dustinneely when you mentioned that your teacher would cover your work in red pen if you wrote that way… for real 😂

@@_Booksphere_ you know it bro. You'd get an F on your assignment turning in something with this many grammatical errors.

Give a try to the Road, its dark and depressing on a good way. There is a movie too, nice cinematography. Lots of refs taken for Last of Us

It takes a while to adapt to his writing style. Bro you are striking out on the books lately. You should just go back to reading Stephen King. I suggest The Wind Through the Key Hole, it’s Dark Tower book 4.5, you’ll love it! 😍 😂😂😂

If this book is driving you crazy, then you should avoid reading anything by Jack Kerouac. His novels basically consist of one continuous run-on sentence. I've read other authors who never use quotation marks, etc., and it always strikes me as lazy. But I have no problem with the use of sentence fragments such as: Blood in the grass.

@@grey1951 Cormac McCarthy won the Pulitzer Prize for his book "The Road". I'm perplexed.

A lot of these "great" books and authors remind me of Bob Diamond, the lawyer Albert Brooks is assigned in the movie Defending Your Life. He's lauded as a great lawyer, but says and does absolutely nothing. A lot of books and movies get hyped, which changes peoples' perceptions when they read/view them. If a nobody like me wrote No Country For Old Men, or any random Stephen King novel, I'd never get published.

@@masonholt651 this "hype effect" is something I've been thinking about for quite awhile. I tend to agree with you.
