Let's Repair! - PSOne Not Powering On (PS1 Slim)

I purchase quite a few broken or malfunctioning consoles and repair/modify them in my spare time for fun and for the learning experience. I've done this with more consoles and devices than I've kept track of and thought it would be neat to record this! In comes the series "Let's Repair!" which will consist of me on occasion purchasing an untested or broken device and doing a free form video of myself reviving it and doing whatever else I feel like trying.

Just check the fuses with a multi meter. You don't need to bridge them one by one.

I had a very similar issue, on my psone the first white screen would load forever. It would never get to the point that would let you select memory card or cd. So i watched this video and checked the fuses, turns out that one of the fuses was blown. I wouldn't normally jump a fuse, but i had taken apart the disk drive as i was trying to avoid replacing it. Well there was a grain of sand in the gears. After i removed the sand the gears turned freely again. I think the sand stuck in the gears and the motor blew the fuse. After the fuse was jumped and the drive was back together it worked! Defiantly worth a check with the multimeter if your psone wont load past the white screen. I was ready to try to flash the bios or order a drive some the scammers. Thanks MrMario2011!

you have no idea how thankful i am, your last bridge fixed mine. i was running psNee mod using arduino nano. done all the programming using arduino uno even unsolder them all to see any changes. but no luck until i bridge all your solder points. and the last one works. ^_^ thanks man.

but i just realized you dont need to solder you can just use electronics tweezers to bridge ive done that and found the one bad in 10 seconds

Don't ever replace a fuse with a wire bridge. It's too dangerous. Also, you can use a digital tester and check the continuity. The SMD fuses can be found on eBay easily. If you keep that wire, next time you have a short or overvoltage, your PSOne is broken. And you can't repair it anymore....

Good video! Quite surprised you didn't test the fuses with a multimeter prior to soldering, would have saved you some time. I enjoy saving consoles from the graveyard too, just started sharing my videos on KZbin. What's the next project?

try continuity on each fuse replace bad fuse with good fuse from junked ps one, done, your welcome

+trick6952 You should reflow the solder for the power connector and possibly power button first, that's what I did and it wasn't working until I jumped the bad fuse.

My psone slim wont read memory cards in both slots and the card that was in slot 1 is nowinoperable... i attempted reading it on another ps1 along with testing a known working memory card with the damaged console. Obviously the card fried.. are the slots serviceable on these?

Asking for some help please. I have SCPH-102A, someone putted 6wire chip. The console boot but not reading disks. I've removed the mod chip. The issue still persist. I have changed the optic assembly with another just to check. There is no problem with the laser. When I put OEM pal game does not start the game. If I put OEM music CD I can see the playlist in the CD player menu, but when start some song it just get skipping sound and the CD is stopping. It looks that cannot processing the information from the laser. Do you have any idea ? Can be some power issue or IC issue ? Or corrupted bios due to mod chip ? Thanks!

My cousin killed our ps1 mobile by pulling the car adapter power chord. It started smoking and stopped working. Ive kept it all these years. I think ill try checking those fuses.

The controller ports and memory ports on my psone don't work if anyone got any fixes please let me know. Using a q-tip and cleaning the ports didn't work.

Sometimes a ps4's disc drive just stops responding and you cant boot games or even update, but(and here's where this gets weird🤔): In ps4's there are two fuses on the bluray drive controller, sometimes the bd controller is baked into the mobo sometimes it's discrete and connected via ribbon cable. There are 2 fuses marked F6201 and F6202, as far as I can tell they are dummies, they have a line printed across them instead of a value or ID # and every single F6201 and F6202 I've ever put a meter across have given me an open circuit result, even in machines with perfectly functional disc drives. HOWEVER... just for s&g I decided to desolder them on a machine with a nonresponsive disc drive and bridge their pads with solder and LO AND FRICKIN BEHOLD it worked afterwards, so I tested the theory, I removed the bridges and it went unresponsive again, re-bridged them and it worked again. So again I tested, I pulled apart good machines and verified no continuity across either "fuse", removed them from a good machine and it still worked fine, so I tested more and more and never once found an F6201 or F6202 with continuity across it, but every time a drive goes unresposive I yank those 2 fuses and bridge the pads and sure enough it works again. It all seems too strange to be coincidental, dummy fuses exactly in a spot that *would* make your machine keep working *if* they were real? Smells like fish to me.

This seems to happen primarily in fat units and in early slim units with screws retaining the upper metal shielding(later slims used mushroomed plastic standoffs to hold it in place). I wholeheartedly suspect that there is a self destruct function of some kind that either lives in the bd bridge or maybe even an ROP baked into the update routine that basically rolls the proverbial dice and if your hash or S/N or CPU key or EIP key or something meet the right(or wrong lol) criteria the bd bridge disconnects itself from it's primary vcc+ bus, I suspect the F6201 and F6202 rails comprise the "dev" vcc+ bus and that removing the dummies and connecting the circuits supplies power to the bd bridge allowing it to operate without a functional primary vcc+ bus.
