Let's Review and Fix the Original 151 Pokemon Shinies from Gen 1

Some of these color shiny concepts are really cool, but I feel like some of the color palettes you used were a bit on the dark side. Like Vulpix being the same shade of blue as the tips of the tails of shiny Ninetales is AMAZING, but the blue shade you used was WAY darker than the tails lol.

So my biggest gripe with shinies and how people generally try to fix them is that people always change every green shiny, which I think sucks as someone who likes green. Then, with general fixes, people tend to overuse black, white, and blue. Not that those colors are never good, it’s just that I think they’re really overused and oftentimes are excused on bad shinies that don’t change much since they still “look cool” (Reshiram and Zekrom come to mind). These fixes are good though! I like how it doesn’t feel like there are any color schemes that get more focus than any others, as well as all of the new shinies having a reason behind them.

Some of my issues with the recolors personally is that a lot of them are either too dark, too light, a mixture of both that feels offputting or straight neon, but i think messing around with the values of the colors you chose could work well. Id absolutely have to push back on Grimer and Muk specifically because of their Alolan forms and how both regionals and their shinies perfectly compliment the others.

Now that the shiny textures are completely seperate instead of just a palette swap, I think it would be cool if they added the red stripes to Voltorb and Electrode, to really sell that Great Ball vibe (it could just be painted on, kinda like the Great Balls in Legends Arceus, since the model wouldn't be any different, it would need to stay flat).

Oddly enough, I actually like green shiny Dragonite! especially with the purple wings, it reminds me of Elliot from the original Pete's Dragon which was a movie I loved as a child

Why the hate against green shinies? Most of them are perfect, no need to change them. I did like some of the palette swaps, like Pikachu and Raichu, but some weren't cutting it for me. I feel like the variety of colors is pretty limited, the palette is quite dark, and some, like Wartortle and Blastoise, just don't work with their shapes. Either way, good video!

Pretty much all of these shiny changes are so cool!! If a gen 2 shiny fix video comes around, I feel like Blissey needs the biggest change. I think red and white would look amazing on it and be a general reference to common hospital colors! (I'll also mention that for gen 3 regice should have a black shiny because of black ice) :]

Fun fact: Charizard had it's shiny changed, in gen 2 it was purple Edits: 1, Drednaw's shiny is already based on Bowser but I do like the Blastoise change, 2 shinies (for the most part) before gen 6 were decided by an algorithm, they were not picked, 3 that Vileplume is a massive improvement

I love basically every shiny you've come up with! I also love the idea of giving Seel and Dewgong an irridecent texture, as they changed the textures of a few shinies like Rellor, and as mentioned, Magikarp. A few I would change would probably be changing Weepinbell and Victreebell's body colors to look more vibrant, and Clefairy and Clefable would keep the color on their ears but instead would become pale Green or have a more red tone to their body. Great work as always! ^-^

Something I had recently realized is voltorb and electrode had a missed opportunity with their shinies, the red should have turned yellow instead to reference the pokeballs on the ground that have tms in them

Even though green is usually a pretty nice color, for some reason it always rubs me the wrong way when they make shinies green... I think its because SO MANY of them do it, and the majority of them are a gross sickly green color to boot. Even cool looking green shinies like Bronzong feel less special because of how often they slap a green tint on the shiny forms (and don't even get me started on Shiny Espeon... That thing is radioactive). The same goes for pink and magenta... There's too many magenta shinies.

I'm glad some people can see that not every Green Shiny is bad. Some are even great. Bulbasaur's line, Kabutops, Beedrill and Mewtwo are some of the examples of pulling it off well. I also like the whole Oddish line and Poliwrath being green. But I agree that Machop's like could do better with red or orange. Your idea for White on Raichu and Pikachu is cool. I think Dragonite's is OKAY, it contrasts as much as OG dragonite does being Yellow/Orange from the Blue of the first two forms.

I enjoy the yellow clefable, especially as it's reminiscent of the common color swap of another pink space creature, Kirby! Commonly, if a game has a second kirby for multiplayer, Keeby the Yellow (with orange accents) kirby takes over. The yellow Clefairy and Clefable really work well, even without the kirby comparison.

Its funny because 80% of the green shinies are considered bad and thus need a complete revision, but in the reality, its the shade of green they used, if most were change to more fitting shades of green all would be well in the world. (Some do work better with other colors ngl) in fact I've seen that idea well with Pokémon like ursaring, changing into a forest green color :3

I think it would be really cool of pokemon introduced alternate new shinys to their games alongside the original shinys, at least for the older pokemon. Since there are a good number of people who think the shiny experience has been cheapened in recent years due to the base shiny catch rate being lowered and with there being other methods to increase shiny odds (shiny charm, masuda method, sandwiches, hordes), these alt shinys could go back to having the old rate of 1/8192 and have no or very little ability to increase their odds. That way we can keep the original shinys, get some new ones as well, and make others happy by bringing back the super rare shiny rates.

I could kinda see a cool looking Shiny for Seel and Dewgong. Seel could be a light grey color to represent baby seals, while Dewgong could be a grayish-brown to represent an adult sea lion. I’m really loving these videos too! Keep up the good work! :D

My favorite Pokémon is Blastoise, so seeing you get rid of the official color for golden yellow is a nice update. I especially like that the cannons are black. Your change to shiny Squirtle looks good. I'm not sure about the red on Wartortle when it comes to the ears and tail. The shiny Pidgey line, especially Pidgeot, looks so good with blue! Same with shinies for Rattata & Raticate as well as Spearow & Fearow! Zubat & Golbat look so much better with red shiny forms, as do Mankey, Primeape, and Scyther.

I really like a majority of the changes. however alot of the colour choices ends up being alittle too dark like Vulpix, Weedle/Kakuna and Flareon Me personally though I love the vibrant deep greens and the minty greens as they're some of my favourite shades of my favourite colour especially since I go out of my way every game to shiny hunt Sandshrew and have always disliked Sandslash's red quills and overall non changing lower half so I would've enjoyed to see Sandslash keep the red's but make the body that minty green imo would make the shiny more consistent and look like a beautiful Christmas shiny. I really dislike the reds used for Sandshrew but I dislike them more on the Mankey line, instead I wish it was inverted for the minty greens to pop. As Primeape and even Annihilape could've looked like Mint choc chip icecreams with their fuzzy bodies being green and the brown limbs just as Mankey does for me at least. As for the actual sickly coloured yellow greens of Pidgey, Spearow, Rattata, Ekans, Tauros and Jolteon are very welcome changes. Also the Pikachu/Raichu, Electabuzz and Magmar changes are phenomenal! I wish alot of shiny pokemon would inverse the colours more as it's such a nice idea

I love some of these shinies. The new yellow on the Poliwag line completes the frog shiny idea for me. The white Shiny on Pikachu is really cool, even if I know that won’t happen due to the shiny colors just being like that because it’s the mascot so it’s increasing those colors. Golduck and Nidoqueen’s shinies were 100% needed. The red on the Mankey line was pretty decent, and the Tentacool line’s new shiny colors are great. But there is one I dislike. A lot. That one is the new blue Vulpix. Maybe it would look better in game if it had it, or maybe if the blue was a bit brighter it would be better, but that tone of blue just did not work with the artwork at all.

I really like dragonite’s shiny because it reminds me of classic dragons from fairytales and I’d honestly prefer for the whole line just to turn a bit darker of a shade of green

I will say that the color choice for Dragonite was almost certainly inspired by Pete's Dragon, Eliot. As such, I cannot say that it's a bad shiny. I think the change was unwarranted.

As perhaps the only person in the world to care about shiny Muk (i cross stitched a like, 6 x 8 inch version haha) - something else to appreciate about the current shiny is that it matches with Alolan Muk! Alolan Muk in turn has a purple shiny to match with Kanto.

The Bulbasaur line is my favourite in the series. The shinies however I’m not a fan of. I would personally turn the flowers and eyes purple to reference its poison type.

Great to see you incorporating the data from community polls into the video. I have to disagree with hypno as his pink body makes him look shaved, I think a light grey body with black fur would make him more tapir like. I also recommend checking out the videos Lockstin & Gnoggin make about shinies as they really explore how shiny pokemon are chosen (especially later gens).

Oooo I know what else could work well for a meowth and persian shiny (particularly so since they are the most mainstream of cat Pokémon) They could both be made a black colour to represent the recessive gene for black fur in domestic and even greater felines Maybe I’m biased towards my absolute queen of a black cat so we’ll do it in her honour ✋

Meowth should be gold coloured to look more like a geki maru figure. Persian is based on a siamese cat. Which are usually pale with brown or lilac coloured tips to the tail and ears... so incorporating a pale purple into persians design would be cool.

Love a lot of your changes-especially that you gave thought to how they would look in SV. I can also appreciate that you worked hard to compromise between your vision vs what the community wants/expects… My critique is that it appears you might have a bias toward saturated hues. This resulted in some of your choices clashing, or contrasting in ways that go against the original designs. For example, on Vulpix, the deep saturated blue on the body distracts from its tails, which were the focal point of that design. Remember that desaturated colors are useful too!

Did they actually change Rattata's shiny to green? It was my first shiny ever and I always thought of it as gold in Fire Red.

I went to look at the shiny for Fire Red/Leaf Green now and yeah that one looks to be a bit more golden compared to the other games! It's definitely got a hint of green in the coloring now. I think it looks better in Fire Red/Leaf Green

I LOVE the concepts for these but the they’re super dark and saturated. It works for some but not for others. Other than that, these are amazing and I’m obsessed 🫶
