Very much thanks for the review. Watching this after over a year after doing anything related to it (and also seeing anyone's still interested) gives me a bit of nostalgia. Sadly, idk when I'll get time and motivation to get back to it, but videos like this, especially after such long time, make me look at several design choices with a fresh mind (sometimes even with "wtf, why I've even did this?!"). Oh dear. Guess many would be having Green Hill nightmares 🤣 Whilst watching this review, I had a better understanding of the successes and flaws including level design and slow downs. Painto still did a really impressive job with the presentation, gameplay, and more. Hopefully in the future, we'll see some wonderful surprises and fixes. Probably more menu options to suit the player's preferences. I agree about the repetitive special stage requirements, similar to Sonic 2 with 3 segments. I think just one segment per stage with different level design would work best. Special stage 5 and 6 were my favourites since they were more well presented. The cancelling super form was a really neat idea, and should have been implemented in every other game. Glad to see that feature in here. I also liked the soundtrack for Roasting Marble for the very same reason. The bosses caught my attention the most with a lot of unique patterns. Overall: I really enjoyed this review with lots of energy, enthusiasm, and all the entertainment factor is there, even during the face reveal segments. P.S. A funny coincidence that this hack review was uploaded during the summer peak in April.

My headcanon as to why sonic CD’s spindash is different (and arguably worse) than Sonic 2’s spindash is because Sonic hadn’t fully mastered the move yet, and Tails helped him figure it out entirely.

Awesome review as always. I love the fact that redhotsonic is respected for his honest opinions on the positives and negatives in the review, if it was anybody else dissin' the game Painto would get out his sarcasm stick as seen on hundreds of Razor Zenon playthroughs when someone doesn't like a hack. Concerning this game however, I would have to pretty much agree with redhotsonic on this one, the music is close to ear-rape, the levels don't include any different art in them, just original designs with different colours and rippling effect, the bosses are certainly interesting but quite annoying because you gotta wait nearly 2 minutes just to score a hit and quite frankly the whole game just doesn't seem to grab my attention enough to wanna play it or try it out, plus it's still not finished after 2 years which is the main reason i've been ignoring it, be nice to see a bug-free finished release.

I was fighting a final boss that felt very different from the rest of the game because it felt like you going through a bullet hell style boss and trust me the controls were bad already and the timing to jump was already bad! For this type of battle you really need to ensure you dodge well and the slowdown kept making it more difficult for me to double jump, especially during the later parts of the fight.

Yeah the music is pretty terrible, it was the first hack and so the first music I ever made for a hack. Shocked you liked boiling labyrinth's music as that was my least favorite song in the game. I did actually redo most of the music since that release but no work has been on the hack since then so they are not used right now. Glad you enjoyed it though.

Yeah, MZ, LZ, the special stage and both boss themes are the only ones I remember well enough, and if I commemorate the tunes after playing a game, that gets a good mark in my book. The rest I found either out-of-tune, or I've heard better elsewhere. To be honest though, if that really was your first attempt at making music for a hack, then my hat is off to you. After almost 13 years of trying to learn it all myself, I gave up in the end and got ValleyBell to do all the music for me. I literally cannot make music to save my life =P

Funny enough, I was the composer of the main boss tune (Sound Test 0C), a song that was called 'Rock' for a while but ended up being released as a more electronic tune called Synth Symphony. It was included as a demo track for my Megadrive/Genesis soundfont (makes MIDI files sound like MD/Gen games using software) as a MIDI file and it ended up being ported into this game, which I found out by total surprise but was actually quite flattered at its inclusion in a decent romhack. I'm glad you liked the tune as well! I reached out to LuigiXHero and offered to help do sound work for this game (as I had experimented in the past with porting music into Sonic 1, both original tunes and tunes from other games) but I believe by that point in time, this hack was no longer being worked on, unfortunately.

You know, I only just realized... if this hack was canon to the series, it wouldn't be the only time someone had a "Burning" form. Blaze is able to turn into *Burning Blaze* with the Sol Emeralds. That made me think... what if Scorched Quest's plot involved the Sol Emeralds rather than introducing 7 separate gems? What if Blaze had something to do with said plot? I know that wouldn't make sense chronologically considering Scorched Quest is meant to take place right after CD, but it's something to think about. If Blaze were to use the Chaos Emeralds, would she be able to attain a new form? It brings about a lot of cool ideas.
