You guys are right, I used the wrong formula and the 1080Ti is indeed >30-34% faster than the 1080 across the board. Im stupid... but hey, the title warned you. I also annotated this video and added it to the comments. This is why my audience is so awesome, they are way smarter than me. EDIT: I used KZbins trim tool to remove those incorrect percentages.

u mind sharing the correct formula to calculate this? I tought it was (GTX1080_FPS)/100x(GTX1080TI_FPS) that showed the actual % difference; but this seems to be incorrect since i mostly come out way lower then 30% then
@JimmyWalta7 жыл бұрын
that shows the difference in % of the 1080 compared to the 1080Ti... here are are trying to show the 1080Ti in relation to the 1080 so we would do 1080TiFPS/1080FPS

well i would take it then i would sell it and make at least $1K on each then i would get 2 1080Ti's or Titan XTi's (if that is what they are gonna call the next Titan X as they already have 2 but then we get to poke fun at the XXX reference) and i may only need to spend like $400 for the 2 Titan Xti's as i got $2K from selling my Titan X's and i just need a i7 7700K (already have it) and a compatible motherboard and get some fans, cooling and storage all for under $800 as well as a case and i got a $1200 beast then i would wait for a 144Hz 4K HDR Quantum Dot 1ms Response Time Monitor from Asus when it is released and bam the best setup in the world the montior will probably cost around $1K but seeing that i got a killer PC for $1200 then it is worth every penny

GTX 1080 Ti has a 352 Bit memory Bus compared to the Titan X Pascal's 384 Bit Bus, they both have almost the same memory bandwidth, 1080 Ti at 484GB/s vs Titan XP's 480GB/s. The performance uplift of the 1080 Ti is only because of the higher core clock speed and improved Delta Compression techniques.

I'm ordering two of that GTX 1080Ti to replace my SLI Maxwell Titan X. As a 6950x owner, I'm wondering the claim that AMD and their friendboy been telling us that their 8x+8x GPU support on RyZen are better than my X99 6950x with 16x+16x+8x GPU support. Would you do a 2 ways SLI comparison with 1080Ti between the Z270, X99 on both 28 lans and 40 lans, and the Ryzen 1800X on their X370 board? I think a lot of Intel user like me want to see how true is what AMD been claiming about their multi GPU support with real evident since they have to compare it with the 6900k. And just for fun may be do a Crossfire comparison also.

But wait until things settle down and stabilize a bit. Motherboard makers need time to work on those BIOSes and MS needs to do its thing. The AMD performance will change and probably improve dramatically in the coming weeks. Obviously AMD will optimize its GPU drivers for Ryzen if it hasn't already, but would Nvidia optimize its drivers for Ryzen, indirectly helping AMD? Probably not unless the difference is significant, but it's a weird question.
@ineedboostsobad7 жыл бұрын
You should check some tests then. First, AMD didn't say they've beat the 6950x at all, they've said it's their aim and the 1800X is QUITE close to it while being half the money. Apart from that, its a completely new architecture and time will make it better. Looking at your system though I don't think budget is what your looking for, so AMD really isn't your brand. Because that's always what AMD has been about: good and cheap solutions.

Jay, first of all let me say that i love you're channel, i watch every video you release...and all the time I watch a video, my wife comes and lingers around, and i recently found out she like's you "a bit more" than me "look that gorgeous guy again" she says all the time and sighs...ok, enough with the introduction - as you're law "correct me in the comments bellow" is still apply - you said in this video at 9:30 "the TI's are shaved versions of TITAN's graphics cards with less CUDA cores etc...not this time, so the question is WHY? is NVIDIA filling a bit of pressure from the upcoming launch of VEGA " - i just wanted to say that Nvidia started with the first 780ti that was a exactly an TX Black with 3Gb v.m. shaved off (2880 CUDA c. with only 3gb v.m. versus 6gb v.m.)...my laugh on all the forums in 2013 when people were waiting for the launch, to buy the 780ti 6GB versions who were speculated to be released, and were never released - because those cards would have been TX Black's all the way (if the release had taken place Nvidia could have dug a grave to bury all TX Black's Kepler from that point), second with 980ti we saw a 50% shaved video memory, 12gb TXM vs 6 gb 980ti, but Nvidia got greedy and a saved even farther the TXM cuda cores 2816 vs 3072 cores - so we had a 50/50 chance this time to see a 1080TI with the same cuda cores as a TXP.... in my opinion we should see the half of the glass from now one (because untill now we see 66% high end TI's = TX's in cuda cores), and expect to see ALL THE TIME IN THE FUTURE the HI-END TI's = TX's with less memory, or less memory specs. All the best from Romania. (please excuse my bad language)

@1toncheese7 жыл бұрын
It is just you, the XP's barely sell due to their massive price delta's, this is essentially planned obsolesence. Nvidia made their money off of the XP and are mopping up anyone who wasnt willing to shell out $1200+ for a Gpu but wanted more than what the 1080 offered. Good strategy as they can then say they made a Gpu just as good at almost half the price when they could have sold at half price all along.......

or maybe a 1080 at the most 'cuz of the price cut.

Eeshaan Achar That makes no sense..."even if you had money, you wouldn't go over the GTX 1070?? Wtf?? So you like shittier performance even if you can afford more graphical prowess?!?? People are crazy as shit... Why not just go all out if you got the money??? I'm pretty poor and I still own a 1080 TI FTW3 and I7 6700K, 32 GB DDR4 Ram.. And I work at a regular job... it's just that if I want something, I find a way to buy it! That simple. If you want less, you'll get less.

I think what he's driving at is the price/performance ratio. I've read that the 1070 is the peak there.
@TheSaxAppeal6 жыл бұрын
@@dertrueforce110 yeah. The 1080 or 1080 ti have negligible performance differences above the 1070 or 1070 ti. At that point, the differences stop being noticable without benchmarking software, but in an actual game you'd never know The highest end GPU I'd get is a 1070 Ti

I'm here now, in 2020. I have a 1080Ti in my build and I'm about to install a 3080 in my build soon. I just wanted to revisit and nostalgia a little about the time when I watched videos like this, and I couldn't afford 1080Tis, and I was rocking a R9 390 and an i5-4690k.

so this has nothing to do with the video itself. I just have to say, I love that fractal design commercial that you two do in the beginning. Too funny.

I like the secondary camera moving around every once in a while, it was a bid shaky but production quality of this video is improved. Interesting from a different perspective.

Jay do you get to keep the graphics card for doing the reviews? Or do you guys have to send it back to nvidia. I'm just curious about it. From the stacks of how many graphics card you have, I'm guessing it's all free and you get to keep it. If so, that's cool, convinient and it saves you alot of money, but most importantly you always have the newest pc techs before retail.

You... are SO cool.... Seriously dude, you are a good guy and good guys don't get to hear that enough nowadays (or ever, maybe). Respect for what you are. You own up, you separate fact from opinion and you don't have your head up your ass. Hair's not bad either :P You guys keep it up!

I don't know if this has already been pointed out but your percentage increase calculations seem off. 8:58 the 1080 Ti has >32% average increase across resolutions compared to 1080 from your numbers. 9:03 shows approx average 35% increase 9:15 shows approx average 26% increase 9:18 shows approx average 32% increase You're saying that nvidia are lying but it's just you can't count properly...

That intro was the best ever. many thumbs up Will a 1080 or a Titan XP water block fit the 1080 ti without issue or do we need to wait for a brand new water block design?

i did some quick calculations using your results Jay for the 1080 and 1080 ti for 1080p and 1440p. apart from gta 5(1080) it does show a 30-34% improvement across the board over the 1080. Edit, you're doing your calculation the other way round

@JayzTwoCents. You are calculating the percentages the wrong way. For example in Rise of the Tomb Raider: 130 is 24.4% SLOWER than 172. But 172 is 32.3% FASTER than 130. Which makes the 1080Ti 32.3% faster, not 24.4%.

Hey Jay. This might be unrelated to the 1080 Ti, but wanted to get your thoughts on PCI-E 4.0 and if it's worth the wait. Are video cards and SSD's bottlenecked by PCI-E 3.0 at this point? I'm looking to build a new rig and am wondering if PCI-E 4.0 is worth waiting for. Thanks for any input.

A recent channel subscriber here. Great video! I have to agree with your assessment on Nvidia "cutting off one of their own fingers" in regards to the 1080ti vs Titan X. Perhaps sales for the Titan X weren't what the had expected therefore they are already sending it out to pasture... to make room for a Titan X Ti!?!?!? Who knows? Right? A minor critique on the editing: the music track that played during the display of the benchmarks coming in while you were still speaking about GPU boost personally distracted me. I almost felt like I was watching an awards show where the producers were trying to cut an acceptance speech short.

The memory bus width is actually lower on the 1080 Ti, so the memory bandwidth is 484GBps total on the 1080 Ti vs 480GBps on the Titan XP, in spite of the +10% more memory speed. A memory controller and ROPs partition has been disabled on the chip resulting in the specs.
@Majorvegasv27 жыл бұрын
Hey Jay, Something that you didn't bring up, might explain why you think that Nvidia "cut off it's own finger", I had 2 Titan X Maxwells, when the Titan XPs came out I wanted to buy 2, however they were only offered through Nvidia. I didn't buy any for that specific reason, I wanted EVGA's stellar warranty behind it because I had one of my titans die on me before. I'm thinking they might be responding to that market (me), because I wanted the biggest and baddest and I wanted to overclock and water cool to get every edge I could. Or they might be responding to future AMD cards at slightly below or around that price point.
