let's talk: 2024 bts song ranking + boyband video explanation

some people in chat were talking about some xyz groups matching bts records and i want to make something very clear first and foremost. I don't care if other groups come and break bts records or match their records. Just breaking records doesn't make you the biggest in the world. BTS's impact and legacy are so much larger and bigger. Yes maybe someday in the future there may be a group bigger than bts, but does that mean they are the next bts? NO! ofc not! Just like if you see bts broke or matched so many records of the Beatles. Does that mean bts is the next Beatles? never! They are both once in a lifetime, one of a kind artists that defined their generation. There is no one like bts nor anyone who can do what bts do. Make that very clear! Additionally while some records may be matched or broken, success is measured by many different parameters, and many lack in other areas. BTS are #1 in all categories, that's what they and army have worked hard to accomplish That being said, please keep streaming and supporting bts, we need to be ready army!

If those “records” involve album sales with dozens of versions, they need something else to make an impact. It’s very telling that those mass sales groups make no impact or noise because the industry KNOWS how kpop fans operate. Sales don’t equal impact if you simply exist within the kpop bubble, or if no one knows your music, or if your streams are negligible. People in the industry aren’t dumb. They see the big sales but see how those streams can’t even beat mid table indie bands who don’t have fandom. Records that are easier to reach because BTS made it possible does not mean equal impact…it just means kpop labels know how to play the game now.

BTS silently growing is really the best description. Since no media paid attention to them it appeared to the west as if a sleeper cell woke up when BTS appeared on the BBMAs and AMAs for the first time in 2017. Sometimes I still go back to watch those bangtan bombs just to see the shocked and confused reactions of the non-army crowd when they realize they‘re in the minority lol. They thought BTS “suddenly appeared“ but in reality they were steadily growing bigger and bigger outside of the mainstream spotlight.

I think people need to understand, K-pop idols and the industry are set up to have a short shelf-life. The only way the industry is revived is with every new “generation” debut and push. It was mostly about hype, visuals, fashion, make-up, photos cards, etc… music wasn’t the main focus. How many members of old groups actually stay in music? Usually just one or two and the rest move to movies, dramas or radio. BTS started with music, having a really message they wanted to say. The visuals and stuff came after to match the music. That’s why they have such a loyal fandom and why they continue to get new fans with the same loyalty. It’s because their music and lyrics are genuine and meaningful. Their video content supports and shows you how they really write about their own experiences. They evolved so well, they broke barriers for themselves. They keep breaking all the labels, stereotypes you want to box them into. That’s why they have global mass appeal. Also they are genuinely good guys, that show they were able to stay and work together for so long. Everyone made their contribution and sacrifice.

BTS relatability now is that they are growing as artists. Mandatory military enlistment was/is a chance to grow personally and individually as an artists. They have already proven themselves in era one of the their career. The second era of BTS will be step up from the first era in terms of maturity and hopefully creativity. Can't wait.

The thing is when it comes to boy K-pop groups I have a hard time seeing them have the staying power that BTS have for a multitude of reasons. BTS have a very diverse fan base not only in ethnicity and nationality but in age. Also BTS main focus is on the music and they have all had very successful solo ventures that I don't see happening with other groups because BTS prioritize their music creation. Just look at Tae and RM for example they choose to work within music genres that are not that big in Korea and Asia because that's what they wanted to do and they had success with it but there was no guarantee that it would bring success. Sure it wasn't as mainstream as lets say Jimin and JK who make amazing pop music with RnB influences but it was still huge. Jin wanted to make pop-rock so that's what he did and he did it well and Suga and J-hope stuck with Hip-hop and also had amazing success with it that sadly doesn't get enough recognition in the Hip-hop world but both got praise for their work. Also the fact that everyone wants to beat BTS but nobody wants to admit that they paved the way, they were the first K-pop in anything to get nominations and beat records and that's amazing. Hopefully they have a great comeback and can enjoy life together in 2025.

The Irony is that all those bands who tried so hard to claim to be unmanufactured ARE manufactured. They are still promoting an image carefully cultivated for marketability. They still made the same industry standard music. BTS stand out is they make music thats not expected - dont give us what we think we want, give us music we dont know we want.

I think the cultural significance between western / eastern societies these groups are apart of, their view of expressing individualism vs being relatively conforming society. The performances and cohesion is different and the reception is different depending on what kind of society you’ve grown up in. Who’s putting on an actual performance with a sense of teamwork and who’s trying to stand out on their own in a concert looking comfortable? And at the cost of what? Idek if what I’m saying makes sense. Trends and times change but I think cultural and societal differences are reflected in their efforts in putting on a good show and hopefully a cohesive image.

I feel bts from the start are a talented individuals they had to be under kpop group to be able to be artist however they stuck under the name kpop idols and this is making alot of harm to them and kpop, kpop should not change and follow bts steps bcz they look really low level, bts has alot of stress presenting kpoo and korea instead of them selves, bts has to be kpop idols even they are not at all now, the fandom army is labeled as kpop group fandom and keep having wars with other kpop fandoms while army showed it was different fandom of doctors lawyers... People with brain and mevel of knowledge...... So army are having hard time and bts too bcz they still have to deal with voting and wars with other fandoms bts has to win all prices and other kpop only keep watching...... I enjoyed the ranking but must say that I think I am the only Army in the whole world that doesn't like the majority of RM 's latest album. I loved Indigo and I appreciate he was trying something different but It just isn't for me. Maybe the songs will eventually grow on me. Time will tell.

I don't think this would be a good idea. It would just create more space for people to attack BTS and it wouldn't solve anything. Fans know what BTS has done or said in the past and I would say they have grown and learned from those mistakes. If people really think BTS are "racist" that's their problem and it's not going to be solved even if BTS were to apologize for mistakes they made over 10 years ago as teens/young adults. From what I can tell BTS love and respect people of all races and if people can't accept that than they are free to not be fans of BTS. But I would hope they would hold that same standard for all the artists they listen to and they would quickly find out no one is perfect.
