Nigeria team didn't win afcon because there was no tactical plan outside of defending. Our positioning was very vulnerable especially around the midfield which exposed iwobi because there was too much space to cover. This is just my belief and it made me lose faith in the coach.

Fun Fact: At only 27yrs old, Alex Iwobi is the second most capped Nigerian player currently active. He's played 76games. The only player with more caps is Ahmed Musa who has featured in 109games. On this list, the assistant captain William Troost Ekong is the 3rd most capped at 71 games. Kenneth Omeruo who is the 2nd assistant captain comes in 4th at 67games. Iwobi could literally be one of Nigeria's captains if he pushes for it but he seems like a chilled laid back guy who wants to enjoy his football and nothing else... After Ahmed Musa retires, a possible replacement for Asst captain could be Victor Osimhen due to his leadership qualities in the team and the hype in African football.

Iwobi getting so much blame was unfair. One of the only players we had that was comfy on the ball and tried to progress play. In the final against Ivory Coast we were outplayed from start to finish and that’s not on iwobi. Look at how iwobi has played with Fulham since afcon ended. He is a top player and he will win the AFCON with Nigeria one day
