Yes, Just like people., these animals have different personalities. I like the way you explain that some animals are to be viewed and observed , with some interaction. I have an 8 year old keel billed toucan that is quite content to have a limited amount of human interaction, as long as he can see us from his pen. He lives in a large chicken coup that rest on top of an unused hot tub in a sunroom . He has exposure to daily sunshine, even in winter weather. He is the perfect pet for us. He travels well in a bird pack and is content to live in a large dog enclosure for a day or 2, even though this is much smaller than his normal home. Key to his health…. The chicken coup has three nest boxes where I keep three large stainless steel bowls of water. He uses one to bath and the others are kept cleaner , as he uses them to drink. These are changed every 2 days. The bottom of the cage has 2 large trays that are lined with freezer paper and topped with shredded paper….. which keeps him busy and content. He “cleans” up his own area by moving and throwing the paper shreds around , refreshing his space. This is changed as needed . He is the perfect pet for us. He enjoys us….and we certainly enjoy him!! I do enjoy seeing Brock’s videos, as there is so little information about caring for these birds. We are all learning and I feel it is such a privilege to be some of the few owners of these beautiful birds . We can all learn from one another.

About social animals needing to be together: I was gifted a baby rat a bit over a week ago. He was around 5 weeks old when I got him. I was worried sick about cage size and having only one ect. So far he acts like a normal rat, no weird behaviors at all. Just treats me like his rat buddy. Now if that changes in the future I will of course change how I keep him. But as of now...I don't see him as lonely or unhappy.

Sounds fine to me. Luckily we don't live in a country that makes it illegal to have one social rodent. That's just dumb.

It's not the law here. But the animal welfare people sure make you believe it is! Pet stores and most breeders sell pairs only. And the care guides for most small animals all try to bend the actual law to say it's illegal.

Tbh I stumbled upon your videos, ready to defend Brock, but then you voiced some concerns and patterns of behavior that had also popped into my mind and also question myself- with the whole Beatrix thing- tbh if it were about “the birds” he should’ve given her to an accredited zoo or institution with the facilities that can actually care for her instead of him keeping her at his house. I think the idea of “forming a bond” with feral Beatrix, and him taking care of her himself is more appealing than actually taking her to either an actual toucan sanctuary with other individuals like her, or like I said, a zoo with facilities that can help and house her. I’m officially hooked on your blog and videos now, and even though they make me feel conflicted because I was once a devout fan follower, I have to thank you for being one of the few people actually willing to fact check and do your research about this- you’ve actually opened my eyes to what he’s becoming

It’s important to think critically about these things. KZbin channels like 2CanTV do not encourage critical thinking. Instead, they seek instant gratification for their viewers so there’s less conversations about important questions. The first big step his channel needs to do is partner and council with an accredited toucan care or research facility.

Hi, I'm grateful you've given my perspective consideration. One of my main issues with Brock is his belief that he has expertise in toucan care, which is clearly not the case and is evident in the fact that he doesn't understand that non-hand raised birds often do not become "cuddly" to the same extent as those which are well-socialized from a younger age. This is just typical of birds and other exotics in general. He is still relatively new to toucan care, having not raised one past the age of 6, but is making problematic statements about them. It is contradictory for him to need friendly baby toucans to teach people that toucans make bad pets and then suggest Beatrix's naturalized bird behavior is due to neglect. He also does not have the space for under-socialized birds (he is trying to move on his follower's dime).

This video has more information about toucans than all Brock’s combined. It’s too bad the people that do it for show get more attention than the people that actually know what they’re doing.

I mentioned this on another of your videos, but what really infuriates me about Brock's fans is that they will happily assert that he is an "expert" at keeping toucans, but anyone who cites credible sources or proves themselves a capable owner is either jealous or simply trying to cancel him. I also LOVE your attitude and I agree entirely. As a pet owner, people should give me money so I can purchase more animals which I can either hoard or use as clickfodder for my KZbin career. I would just love his fans to go visit the toucans or any other species of exotic bird in a Non-AZA accredited zoo so I can listen to them as they cry out how much the birds are suffering, only to be told that they're being given the same amount of care as what Brock's toucans are given. Given their rather consistent track record, they'd probably end up saying that it's okay when Brock does it because he's handsome and is cool enough to own a species of exotic bird that he says is too much for anyone else to manage.

Thanks, yes it is the case that he believes that non-AZA zoos are less equipped for toucan care than he is. Yet he is relying on his fans to provide the birds with the proper enclosures.

@@genetsandjazz Mhm. I’m sad Toupac passed away, but there’s no doubt in my mind that he would have been given fast and reliable accommodations from an exotic bird facility. If birds at a zoo would be taken away due to neglect or poor management, why should private owners like Brock be looked over? It’s the same reason why neglecting a dog can get you a fine, jail time, ect... Brock is their providers and he treats them like commodities. Exposing them to things they are never supposed to encounter like snow or letting them eat junk is not a sign of good welfare. But giving them a 3D object they need to manipulate for enrichment is. I have yet to see him give them proper enrichment or let them forage outside a pile or bowl of fruit chunks.
