love all your commentary on being a booktuber of color - so well spoken!!!! totally agree about booktube "cliques" - it's just different friend groups. and amen to all booktubers being so welcoming and friendly. i still have my "fan photos" from old conventions with booksplosion/ariel, etc. and now we're all such great friends!! yes yes yes totally feel the same about ARCS - i have a new rule where i only read a book two months in advance or else i'll be so lonely with all the feels haha i feel like i am just seconding everything in this video - yes to everything about people not knowing how sponsorships work! (you are speaking for me as well, so you're totally not alone in these experiences XD) i can't wait to see you so soon ahhhhh

I TRUST YOUR VIDEOS AND RECOMMENDATIONS ! you were the first booktuber i watched and till now i have watched ton of other booktubers and i do respect them but i think your reading taste is very similar to mine and you were the one who basically made me fallback in love with books. the way you talked about the night circus that made my experience of reading it more awesome. Loved this! One of the main things I think fuels the misconception that booktubers are dishonest when reviewing books in sponsored videos is that it's quite difficult to imagine an author/publisher allowing and accepting a video about a book which is predominantly negative and unsupportive. Admittedly, I feel like this sometimes too, but I think its more down to (like you said) the barrier of uncertainty viewers face concerning booktube in comparison to the different side booktubers themselves witness and participate in. That's why I believe videos like these are actually super important in that they're honest and informative which helps develop mutual understanding and trust between content creators and viewers

I LOVE how open, honest and raw you are in this video. It is probably the most open we have ever seen you. I loved this video so much and your firm stand on rumours about the booktube community, people asking about your ethnicity (of which they have no right and should be focusing on your content) and everything else. I trust you and your thoughts and opinions. I adore your content and you are one of my favourites. I hope you are doing this for many years to come.

Hey hannah! One thing you can do with the arc issue is you should film a spoiler-y review and talk about your feelings and then don't post it until the book comes out! This Q and A had so much truth! I liked what you said about friends. People don't exclude each other, usually the first step in friendships is just someone reaching out, and if people really want booktube friends sometimes ya just gotta be the first one to say hi then go from there. I loved all your thoughts and feelings on these topics!
@TheresesNook6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for mentioning ethnicity and how it is isolating to be one of few POC booktubers, you finally put to words what I was thinking a few days ago. There are definitely some pros and cons about it, one of the pros being you're paving the way for other POC booktubers to join and giving someone who looks like them in a community they love but it's also jarring because one day you're watching your fave booktubers and it just hits you that you... don't watch a lot of people who do share your features and when you wonder why it hits that it's because there's not a lot of POC booktubers out there.

Hi Hannah! I've been watching your videos for a year but only recently started commenting and I loved this video so much. I'm really happy you discussed race/ethnicity/diversity here. As a biracial woman in the US, I've always been forced to read books with characters who will never face some of the things that I have faced. It gets frustrating to read something and never see myself represented. In the media, biracial people are seen even less than people of color. I watch you because your videos are well thought out, and I trust your opinions. I'm a grad student at King's College London, and my research focuses on the intersections of race and feminism and how the lack of diversity negatively impacted the Women's Liberation Movement. I love that you study Women, Gender & Sexuality. I love that even though we don't know each other, we can relate on many shared experiences. I don't watch your videos JUST because you are a woman of color in the US. I watch your videos because I like YOU, and I like you because I feel like we connect over many things. I know this is a long comment, so I will stop writing now, but thank you very much for addressing race and ethnicity and know I'm following strong and love all your videos and you as a person. xx

Hi Hanna, I'm from the few people in Egypt who love English books or books in general. It is uncommon to find an egyptian who understands English, so imagine how few of these people might love reading. Not a lot. I'm one of them and guess what? YOU ARE THE REASON. I watched literary every video on your channel, and I trust you more than I trust some of my friends. I really love that you understand your audience and try to guide them if they misunderstand anything. If I keep writing all the things I love about you, maybe you'll take longer to read this comment than reading the longest book you've ever read. I just reallllllly love you and wish all the luck in everything. ;D

I also love the book community, there are great people out there in this community, and I also make videos, so, hopefully people will actually get bigger as well. I also genuinely love talking about books, and literally just talking to people about books, whether or not the person that I am talking to likes books. Even though that they don’t read, they SHOULD read books, and they only don’t because of their “excuses” of being to busy, and literally anything that they can think of. Like I have a friend that has a full time job and literally can still have a life, and also read books all at the same time! Love this video!

Thank you for the this video, Hannah because I had no idea other youtubers experienced this as well.

I have a suggestion regarding your ARC problem. maybe you could film a review or booktalk after you've read the book but post it when the book has come out. that way you can talk about your feelings without spoiling anyone 😊 I love this video and your channel in general! you're so calm, pretty and funny and your videos are amazing ❤️
@ines-60506 жыл бұрын
I think the reason book bloggers/vloggers get sent the arcs is for advertising, so the publishers want spoiler-free reviews up before the actual release date. Like, by accepting the arc, the booktuber is saying 'sure, I'll help you promote your book to the audience on my channel', so that when the book releases, people will go out and buy it. Waiting until _after_ the release date kind of defeats the purpose. (I think this is how it works. Not 100 percent sure.)
@saralace89666 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it works that way but I meant more like spoiler videos where you talk about the book with spoilers and all. spoiler-free videos can of course be uploaded before the release date :)
@ines-60506 жыл бұрын
saralace Ah, ok. Yeah, that makes sense. Like recording a spoiler and non-spoiler review, but only uploading the spolier-free part until after the release date?
@saralace89666 жыл бұрын
yes, that's what I was thinking. Hannah also said that if you accept an arc you don't have to film a review video, what you do with the book is your own choice. but if you accept a sponsored book there are certain things you have to do (film a video or mention the book on instagram etc)

I am a Filipino and I love books and I know that booktube will grow in my country and more people like us will be known for it. I feel like UK&US' booktube community (basically - every bt community which I'm not part of :D) is much more friendly and welcoming in a way, I wish we had the same in Poland. There are only a couple of us, maybe up to 10, being somewhat popular (considering that the most subscribed bookish channel in Poland has like 40k subs), but we have ALL the drama, jealousy, rumours and cliques and let me just tell you - it's awful. Feels like I'm back in high school again, even though I'm one of the oldest booktubers in my country... I love watching yours and your friends' videos, love to see you meeting at bookcons and stuff, it makes me feel more positive about booktube in general. ♥

Love your honest discussion, Hannah! Its so refreshing to see someone talk about ALL sides of the Booktube story (no pun intended haha) - sorry I know the Q+A is over lol but what camera and lighting do you use?

Yay new video! Can you maybe do a video listing your favourite contemporary books?? And I don’t know if you read it but One Of Us Is Lying by Karen McManus is a definite recommendation! Love you ❤️
