Nice Heather. I don't have any hand issues but got me a spring loaded lifter and I'm in love with it. It's so much easier. A lot of the new Ball kits don't come with the magnet anymore because you aren't suppose to heat the lids, go figure! What the most helpful thing in headspace for me is using the lines on the neck of the jar. It's just so much easier and faster and more consistent for me . For storage of my tools I have one of the cheap 3 drawer plastic carts on wheels. I keep my lids in one drawer and tools in the other two. Still not finding lids in stores yet but plenty of jars.
@TheKneadyHomesteader3 жыл бұрын
you know, i have tried not heating my lids, and it is the only time I get lid failures. I still find warming that compound up helps it to seal. Old dog, new tricks is a no go for me. hahahaha I have the same 3 drawer plastic drawer that I use for lids and rings. hahaha
@Jomama023 жыл бұрын
@@TheKneadyHomesteader I don't soak them in boiling water but I will in just warm tap water. I get the failures if I use boiling water on them. I haven't really tried not soaking them at all. That doesn't make sense to me at all. I like the Orchard Road lids. They are a thicker metal and they have more rubber on them. Those I'll soak in boiling water but I'm afraid they won't be in stock. I'm still having trouble finding lids. I had enough for last year with some left over but looking to buy a sleeve of each size for this year. Hoping they will replenish stock for either brand!

I saw your marking on the headspace tool in a previous video. I marked mine and it's so helpful! I have a box for my tools, rings, and lids. Rusty rings: once they get rusty I keep them in a separate pile. About every 2 years I take the rusty ones and lay them out on cardboard in the back yard and spray paint them. I use the sprayed ones for gifts and opened jars that need to go in the fridge.

Excellent demonstration of all the necessary tools and how they work in canning. So I just put a towel in the bottom of my clean canner and dump all my canning tools inside and put the lid on tight for storage. My canning book(s) fit in there too so no searching for them either. Hi friends from Australia, if your looking for canning equipment I have found a few places here. Big W has a water bath canning kit, includes 20L enamel coated pot with lid and rack lifter. Jar lifter, jar funnel, & bubble removal spatula with headspace measurements. $149.00 I usually get my jars and lids from eBay seller ozfarmer. I also picked up my American canner from this store two years ago. Be he is also out of lids I found that if you go to Ball mason Jars wholesale Australia you can find the wide mouth jars, as soon as supplies come in We will be able to grab them up. I truly hope this helps my Australian canning sisters! God bless
