I have an expired j1 visa. I never married anyone. Lawyer said she can apply for green card for me. She did this combo card as well She also said she applied through vawa.

Jim, quick question on combo card. Some attorneys advise not to use combo card instead stay on H1B, L1B, F1, etc until green card is issued, their theory is that once applicants use combo card at port of entry and the status changes to "parolee" and in case underlying I-140 is denied the applicant is left with "NO STATUS" and must leave the country immediately. Is that true or advisable to use combo card for travel even though PRIORITY DATE is not current ? Many from backlogged countries have received combo card recently but scared to use the card due to this uncertainty. Edit: Jim, could you please do one more video related to this question, seems many have same question ( from comments here)

But with the combo card you’re not 100% guaranteed to get back in to the United States. Right? I read that some people were denied to re entry.

That's my understanding too. Many lawyers advise their clients not to travel with the combo card unless its necessary and or urgent. However Jim makes It sounds like there will be no problems at all when trying to re-enter the USA...

Our lawyer told us the same thing. Not to travel unless necessary or urgent because I might be denied entry back into the country. He does make it sound like it is ok to travel and people will have no problem getting back into the country.

Even with a green card you’re not guaranteed entry at 100% because at the airport they can still revoke it. Only guaranty at 100% is US citizenship nothing else

@@gotcha9934 who told you that? The only reason they will deny you entry is if you commit a crime.I know people who have green card and they travel all the time without any problems.

Hi! Thanks for all you do. My parents recently received a combo card. However, their lawyer is telling them they need to wait the advanced parole separate in order to travel. I personally think it’s because recently there was word that uscis will be sending work permits and travel permits separate due to back logs, however they received the combo card. They shouldn’t have any trouble right now?

Hi Yukari. Yes, that just happened with me yesterday. I also sent it together and now I am trying to figure it out. I called immigration and they said I had to check an option on my I-131 forms that I wanted a combo card but this options does not exist. The person who helped me file this said that this is ridiculous, the fact that we are sending both documents with our i-485 already says to immigration that we are requesting a combo card. Did you have any luck resolving this?

@@lauraarantes2917 No, my lawyer is traveling, but the secretary said that for some reason they processed them separately and I need to wait for my parole. My lawyer is coming back on Monday and I will let you know what he is going to tell me.

@@yukarikitamura1142 Yes, they are processing my separately as well. Immigration said that they are reviewing I-131 from February, 2021 right now and I don't have any other alternative except wait for it. This is all so annoying. Yes, please. If you can tell me what he says that would be amazing.

It is the same case for me was well! I received my renewed EAD last week and it's saying “ not valid for reentry to US”. The strangest thing is though the notice letter is clearly noting that this is a combo card, yet the card says otherwise. I also checked this with my lawyer and they said I need to either wait for a few weeks and see if the AP card gets issued, or I should apply for another I-131. And the estimated timeline for I-131 is apparently 4-6 months. Please keep me posted as well if you get more information. Also, should we reach out to USCIS and see if there has been a mistake or sth? Just curious if you have done that already! Thanks!
