Democrats should assume that Trump/Project 2025 will attempt to overthrow democracy and immunise the legislation/levers of power as much as possible during this lame duck period. And do so with the knowledge that Trump and co will be playing dirty. It could also be the non negotiable price of supporting the spending Bill. Biden could, as his final act, severely limit the power of the presidency in order to mess with Trump.

You should be concerned bout both. Trump made no bones about believing the Constitution was antiquated and needed to be changed because it was standing in his way. But it would be hard to get the 34 states required, or a super majority in Congress unless he tries what authoritarians elsewhere have done--dissolve their Congress/legislature and take total control. Time will tell where this is all going to go.

A problem with constitution convention is that many of those red States combined don't have population of California.

Does that (the population of California) really matter if membership in the House and Senate don’t really correlate to the population of a state? Rhode Island, the smallest state in the U.S. (population just over 1 million) has the same number of Senators as California (population of 39 million) and Texas (30.5 million). And, in spite of population growth, the House NEVER increases representation. No wonder half of the U.S. population didn’t bother to vote… How can this possibly be considered a representative democracy? I always vote but never get to vote for my actual choice. By the time my state does its primary, results from other states always seem to cause my preferences to drop out, and write-in votes are worthless. As for presidential elections, Rhode Island,again with just over 1 million residents , has 4 electoral votes. My state, with over 4.5 million residents has 8. Again, how is that representative?

@sodacard-s2t Wyoming is far worse. It's a rather large state with 580,000 people. They have far more voting power than the people in California. The electoral both do not match the population amounts. Those two signatures from Wyoming are able to do damage. The GOP/Koch brothers played the long game. Get all the little states. The least educated and poorest people to vote against themselves.

And once again I prefer the Australian model. We need a double majority; a national majority and a majority of states. There are some quirks, for example the ACT and NT are territories rather than states, so voters there count towards the national vote but a majority in a territory doesn't count towards the majority of states requirement. This system is biased against change, but we've worked most of the kinks out and stability is a good thing as is. It arguably set our reconciliation process back a generation or so, but at least we are safe from a Trump wannabe setting the whole thing on fire. Not perfect, but good enough.
