I'm on both sides about "do you want to know how it works." I 1000% agree that the emotion and wonder is what makes the show so powerful. However, I'm also curious to know how some of those things are done, pretty much _because_ they're so powerful.

I don't think it's a magic show but rather a theatrical performance where there a couple magic tricks. Either way it is a powerful piece of art.

In a show purportedly about "identity" I was perplexed by the producers' (Stephen Colbert and wife) decision to intercut shows to include so many celebrities. I saw the show in lower Manhattan and found it fascinating and enjoyable, even though the play's staff called up the ticket purchaser in my family and invited her to participate in one of the elements of the show.

I liked your review. The movie though left me untouched. I didn't quite get the point why the audience became so emotional in such a short time. I stay with some good books by Osho and Eckhart Tolle, they have kind of more substance to the whole topic. The movie and the show was a little too much magic for me.

I Loved it and will what it a few more times... because there is so much to learn from this show. How many shows do you go to where you actually learn something useful. The show really really makes you think not about how he does the magic, but about life and what's important.
@JimLaczkowski3 жыл бұрын
Why am I not swept up into the magic of this? Both my brain and my heart are skeptical - like if I knew how he did that thing with the letters, I’d feel much better. There would be closure instead of the whole time me thinking “wait, how how how did he do this?” I know that’s not the point of the show at all, but as a science person, I want to see the breakdown of how he pulled off his tracks rather than just think, “oh it’s just magic and we’re all a million different types of people wrapped into one entity, buh-bye.”

Here's a hint: Magic doesn't actually exist. We all know it's just illusion and trickery. Then again the fact that lightsabers don't exist or that Captain America is a fictional character doesn't take away from my enjoyment of those movies. The point is: You intellectually know that none of these things are real, but all that's asked of you is to let go of your brain and enjoy the ride.

I loved his special and as a big magic fan, among ya know, other things, I didn’t want to know how it was done either. Which is different for me. But his special is different. How often can you say a “magic show” moved you emotionally? Lovely review, thank you. Subscribed immediately because of it. And thank you for not asking us to like or smash anything. You’re a fresh air breath kinda person. 🙏☺️

Hi. I'm really glad I found this. You have honestly the best perspective on magicians I've ever heard 'cause, well, I am one and my take on "us" is pretty harsh. From my perspective there's very little sincerity in magic, cause a lot of people (if not most) use it as a crutch that replaces a true personality or point of view. But your take about it being one of the most sincere artforms is really sweet and weirdly enough was similar to what I thought of Stand-Up Comedy. Anyway, I really loved the show and was inspired by it, but I also really like your opinion of it (and of magic), it sorta gave me hope about the future of the art form. So thanks :)
@twatmunro95633 жыл бұрын
The storytelling was great, the magic was... a little bit dull, to be honest. My wife was kinda knocked out by his gambling routine but she doesn't watch magic. When you've seen a load of them, it was just another gambling routine. For me, the letters bit was the best. And was that Bill Gates in the audience?

Hi Katie, I discovered your channel through this video when I was searching for content about this very special show and it led me to your work on comedy and I just wanted to drop by and let you know how much I enjoy your take on things. So much so that I’ve watched a few of your vids twice, though I haven’t watched them all. I see that you have at least one book by Maron, have you considered doing a video on his progression as a comic? He’s fairly different as a person and performer than he used to be and I don’t think it’s a secret that he’s been pretty intentional about that. Just a thought. Keep up your great work and know that you’re having a positive impact out here in KZbinLand!
