That was a very well put and well educated video fantastic job! I am just getting into building RC planes from scratch. For my first project, I plan on making a scaled version of a Southwest 737-300 with winglets. Those 127MM fans look beast and for the low price am planning to use them since I plan to make the model large. Great video, it was exactley what I was looking for you answered alot of my questions

There is a set screw in the front of the fan blade unit unscrew that then take the blades off then you can get to the motor-fan firewall to unscrew its fairly strait forward.

ye lol, i have run the calculations and i think about 10kg of thrust would do it. which is 22lbs. this should give me an initial acceleration of about 1m/s/s which isnt bad. the question is cost...... i know it will be expensive and i was wondering how much these 125mm cost ? also how many cells do they run on ?

obrahim: USE EDF electric jet motors AND buy a Tesla Power Wall battery. In fact, Buy 5 batteries and used approx 170 EDF electric motors mounted in formation with necessary space in-between. 170 should give you 100 Kg of extra lift, i.e. rideable. //Erik S

On the subject of testing EDFs, would it be a good idea to build a miniature version of the test cells the large engine companies use for engine testing on the bench? That way, if the fan were to disintegrate it would hit the test cell wall or the observation window(s) instead of the tester.

how do you figure the engine that will work on an air plane, for example the plane weighs about 20 pounds, what EDF Electric Ducted fan would you use, what BA ?
@F3HDemonDriver1
@F3HDemonDriver1 4 жыл бұрын
The way I determine the right EDF unit is this, the thrust the EDF puts out and the weight on the EDF + Brushless motor, then take into account the weight of your plane, so a 20 Pound RC Plane I would go with two 100mm or two 125mm EDF units. you want at-least 9lbs of thrust from each EDF.

From experiment smaller diameter EDF are more efficient than the bigger diameter edf. I particular like the 55mm diamer. Two of the 55mm could produce over 500grams of combine thrust at 10.8V x25 to 28amps. Its very difficult to get over 500gram of thrust with 10.8V x 25amps of power from a single EDF...my 2 cents.

@F3HDemonDriver1

Hi, iam making an airliner with dual edfs on either side of the wing. so do I need two 11.1v lipo batteries for good efficiency. for how many minutes we can take the plane in skies? with 2 batteries
@F3HDemonDriver1
@F3HDemonDriver1 7 жыл бұрын
2 Lipo batteries for two EDF's is what I would do, although so people use one larger lipo to power both EDF units.
@F3HDemonDriver1
@F3HDemonDriver1 11 жыл бұрын
For that kind of speed you want to look at WeMotek, HET, SchuberFan, or any of the new 90mm 10+ blade EDF's that are now on the market. and 10 minutes plus flying duration all centers around your battery and amperage draw of the battery, I would say a 3000Mah+ battery will give you the flight times you desire. remember this video was made almost two years ago and ALLOT has changed in EDF technology since then.

Try a 1450KV motor. For the battery just multiply the voltage by the KV to get the rpm. Oh and get a bit more RPM than you need because the motor might slow down under load.

So its been a while since the video.. I bet the EPF hobbies unit has failed by now.. Also don't confuse people.. the rotor is balanced on the HET to a degree.. Once you install it.. its close but not dynamic balanced .. Dynamic balanced means that the unit is all balanced together which means its assembled and spooled up.. THE HET has not bullet connectors so the rotor is balanced but once assembled its not in balance. HET is awesome but a pain to balance perfectly.. If you have any rub marks in your fan its not blade stretch its a balance issue! good video...

blade stretch only occurs at very high rpm. for nylon 6/6 its at about the 70k rpm mark where serious deformation occurs, and way over 120k for yield. no fans are dynamically balanced, because as you say, once installed it needs rebalancing.
