At least my rural area, the cops routinely overlook a lot of crimes (traffic violations, fireworks, pot, domestic violence, etc), so these people have no concept of "there's a set of rules you have to follow". For a lot of men, there are basically no rules at all outside of workplaces. For a lot of women, the only rules are "Do what your husband tells you". When that's your environment, *any* rule that you actually have to follow feels like oppression.

I'm an Idaho resident. It's worse here than you realize. They are moving adult (97% unvaccinated, Gemma Gaudette, Boise State public radio) Covid patients onto pediatric respirators (see Idaho Capital Sun). A neo-natal nurse at a local hospital told me that means that her patients, premature babies with underdeveloped lungs, have reduced time on the respirators or are removed. So the consequences reach beyond heart attack patients and accident victims. Tragic.

I tried explaining that to my husband, and he didn't believe me. He said, "no, that's a different department (unit)." Umm, no. We live in Eastern WA, which is almost as bad as ID. I'm burnt out, y'all... I'm just tired and mentally/emotionally fatigued from having to argue with these fools day in, day out down here. It's so exhausting that I just want to curl up and cry. I've been fighting breast cancer since the November before COVID came to the U.S. I'm a homesteader in rural central Mississippi, living fifteen miles outside a "one-horse" town (i.e. dollar store, gas station, whole town closes down around 9pm kinda place). My county has one of the lowest vax % rates in Mississippi, and these folks are still having community-wide maskless, non-distanced gatherings every single weekend. We don't even have a hospital. Hell, the local doc is only in office two or three days a week here. Meanwhile, from the edges, I'm watching in constant fear and paranoia as they die and I hope like hell I don't. I don't know what my point here was. I usually just try to post some encouragement and move on. I'm just having a rough time right now, and it kind of poured out. Sending Love & Light. Y'all stay safe, keep taking care of each other, and for the love of all that is good, please PLEASE get vaccinated and wear your masks. There are so many of us standing quietly on the edges right now, just hoping we don't die.

My grandmother had her first cardiac arrest when she was 24. And yes, I did say "first". I'm very glad they resuscitated her. My husband had a severe vasospasm that caused a heart attack during an amputation a year ago. I am very glad they resuscitated him as well. If I ever have a heart attack, I hope to God they try resuscitating me, because I will do all I can to get back to my loved ones. Don't want to be resuscitated? You have the right to chose that for yourself, not for other people. I find the new measures yet another example of how healthcare in the US isn't taken seriously, and is literally costing needless lives. Stop cheering it. It's sickening.

I live in Idaho. I’ve been vaccinated and I no longer go anywhere unnecessary and proceed as quickly as I can. Whether I need a cart or not, I grab one to use in stores as a barrier between me and shoppers who insist on getting close enough that they would have made me uncomfortable before any of this started because “they have rights”. Hello from Idaho. My fully vaccinated 15yo daughter has developed tics. It could be from a viral encephalitis, not related to Covid, a tumor, a stroke and bleed, mass hysteria, or Tourette's. But we're waiting on a call from a pediatric neurologist who is triaging her condition to get her an appointment. Blood work and a urine analysis have been done. An EEG could be ordered. But, because of freedom her care is being rationed. Thanks Ammon Bundy.

I feel so bad for the hospital staff in Idaho and everywhere. I can't imagine having to make those decisions. The National Guard is helping all over the US. I fear that huge numbers of them will break and then where will we be? Be kind to medical staff. Don't just say you support them, encourage people to get vaccinated, make them a meal, go shopping for them or babysit their kids or watch elders for them. Show that you care.

Before I say this, let me first state: I am immunocompromised. I am very much in the "most at risk" section of society. And despite all that, all I can think is that at this point I swear people in 20-30 years are going to look back at the years just after "Pandemic America"(whenever this f'ing thing ends) and notice that the average intelligence of the country at large shot up notably. Because now? Now, most of the people dying? They are those who choose not to do the literal bare minimum.
