Modern Minecraft has gotten so fast-paced and cutthroat in recent years with the rise of speedrunning. More and more I see people just beelining straight to the endgame content and fighting for domination over the server, which for me just ruins the enjoyment of the game. If you want to play Multiplayer, you have to play competitively and aggressively if you want to even stand a chance. I just miss the days of hopping onto Minecraft with my friends and building a village together, pulling pranks on each other, going on adventures. I miss building and riding rollercoasters, amassing an entire dog army, or trying something we saw on KZbin and just generally having fun.

BTA revived my interest in MC, and also revived my youtube channel, now being my most successful minecraft series yet. Recently I haven't had the chance to play much of it, but I plan to make a big return soon and play more of it/check out the massive update I missed. I'm so grateful to BTA and its awesome community!

Having missed Minecraft's early development (I started on 1.5.2), I am looking forward to exploring BTA soon-ish. As I have gotten fed up with modern MC too, both from the mediocre updates and especially account changes, I've left the game behind, after I closed my Vanilla server over log4j. But if I end up liking it, I might spin up a long-term server again, with BTA. Currently I'm playing Vintage Story, which is it's own separate block game and deserves more attention, being a sort of mix of old and new MC with it's own clear vision. It also has seasons and seems to resemble BTA in some other ways too, but has a much larger focus on survival. Both seem an amazing change of pace, in different directions, but sticking to the sandbox experience that interests me.

So I found this video after a youtube search for Minecraft beta mods, on a whim, and I didn't realise that beta 1.8 was controversial. I drifted away from Minecraft after that update, and have maintained that it didn't feel like the same game anymore. I occasionally boot it up to play with friends, but it lost it's magic long ago for me. I'll definitely be checking out your video on the subject and looking further into the Better Than Adventure mod. Thank you for making this video!

I personally think 1.20 was actually pretty good, if for no other reason than it gave desert wells an actual use. That said, the recent changes to the End User License Agreement Microsoft/Mojang made when no one was looking without announcing they were doing so is probably a large part of why the internet might be turning against Minecraft a little. Really hoping this year's Minecon gives us a preview of 1.21 that has a wow factor. Something, like, I don't know, a new dimension accessed by the ancient city portal. My take on things anyway.

Personally, I think 1.20 was way too over hyped, all it's features are things you would do once and forget about. My current world is on 1.20 and it's basically the same as 1.18. I don't care about Eula changes they just didn't add anything good.

A new dimension is a bad idea, when so much of the existing game is so shallow. Take the end, or mob behavior, or the post 1.18 oceans (literally in that case)

Mojang said they won't be adding new dimensions until all the existing dimensions are updated, so considering the overworld and nether have been updated, I think we might be more likely to get an end update, which sounds really exciting in my opinion!

I first joined Minecraft back when the full version of pocket edition released, and back when nether core reactors were still a thing. And yeah, nowadays modern Minecraft feels easy and is littered with tons of useless features. So its nice to see that these older versions still have a community around them.

yk while I dont consider myself as an official release/adventure update hater, I will say that having glass trapdoors is amazing. I have wanted a type of horizontal glass pane for a while now, especially doing underground builds because I like how glass ceilings look but it didn't look right being full block to me and the fact they added that as an alternative to glass panes is outstanding. Along with that I also really like how they added labyrinths too. Ive had a small world on bta for a couple of days now and its really good!! (also Im kinda realizing the joys of having no hunger bar too, I can't say Im always at full health but like,, its actually nice to not have to worry about it as much)

Love your videos! Could you perhaps make a video covering modern versions of better than wolves mod? It has been in developing for over 10 years now and is a complete overhaul with some hardcore survival. I’ve been playing it for a couple of months and it feels like playing minecraft for a first time, brings me a lot of joy and nostalgia with some nice challenging gameplay and progression(it takes 4-8 hours just to make a crafting table). I feel like this mod doesn’t get the attention it deserves even with all that “alternative timeline” trend going! I absolutely recommend you taking a look into it, you won’t be disappointed!

I joined just after the golden age ended back in 1.4. The game seemed to very slowly become a game about exploration without a proper teleport/fast travel system (waystones mod is a must for me in modern minecraft) Beyond that, my favorite thing to do is just strip mine, and the update to world generation didn't change that besides for making me strip mine deeper.

Last time I played Minecraft, was on Hypixel playing skywars on 1.8.9. I had been playing since beta 1.7.2 (2011) and stopped around 2017, after they added the shields I'm guessing. I stopped playing because my PC could no longer run Minecraft in a playable framerate, it being from 2013 and all. I'm thinking of buying a new gaming PC and future proofing, wish me luck!

Minecraft is a game I usually go to and play for a while, then get bored and quit. Usually I'll make a world intending on staying on it for a while but give up because I run out of things to do and don't feel any drive or creativity. I don't particularly have any qualms against modern Minecraft but it just feels stale. Maybe this mod will give a shakeup! The old days of Minecraft could be rough around the edges but there's a certain nostalgic beauty to it for me. I'll definitely have to try this out.

While shaders do exist for 1.7.3, they aren't compatible with BTA as it changes the codebase too much. Shaders are available in the mod archive for beta, though.

Hopefully There's a mod for 1.7 where: New 1.18 World Generation is implemented Combined Better Than Adventure and The New Nether While havinf the old combat system and new tools. and also keeping the same textures and feeling as the classic ones, and also some of the oceans from aquatic update too. I feel like exploration is underrated and people right now are focusing on usable experience of each features while not enjoying one of the core gameplay mechanics of Minecraft itself.

Cooking iron ingots gives you netherite and it better then diamonds but you cant use a furnace to cooket it

Smelting iron in a blast furnace gives you steel, not netherite. And diamonds are still better than steel. Steel tools have the most durability in the game but diamond tools mine extremely fast with the second highest durability.

Soo. Here is a story of mine I hope people find interesting enough to read. Back when i was like 5 or 6 I played minecraft on my parents work computer. And it already had it installed since we bought the computer from a friend. I fell in love with the game immediately. I cannot really tell what i thought since i was very young. (And yes I'm still a 13 year old kid) but my parents a few years later forbid me from playing it since they said I cried when I saw a monster ingame. Which I cannot remember at all! So they really misunderstood what it was all about. Years pass and I still didn't get to play my favorite block game to let my creativity go wild. And when I was about 10 yr's old I finally convinced my parents to buy it, I had watched alot of yt videos about it before I got it again. So I knew alot about it. And i didn't get to enjoy the moments when i found out how to craft a crafting table. And considering the huge skill level many people was on, and almost the unspoken rules of modern minecraft like: day 1 Full iron armor!! Day 5 cut the entire forest down to trade sticks for emeralds and get diamond armor!! Day 50 Beat the game!! Get elytra and finally start building. Atleast, that was how i felt it. Doesn't mean it was true. But I felt a pressure to beat the game before i started building. And last time i tried that, i failed miserably. And wasn't stubborn enough to try again. Then I end up thinking that modding might just help. So i made Alot of modpacks and was proud of it. But Never really played them since I had already researched all the mods. So I gave minecraft a break. And now I discover this mod for 1.7.3. now this version was older than what I was used to back when I was 5-6'ish years old. But that wasn't the problem for me. And actually a good thing since I could discover things at my own pace. Since not many yt vids was around at that time. Instead of researching every goddang mechanic about it. i just played it. Best decision I could've chosen. Because I could enjoy the feeling of discovering things again. As if I was playing the game for the first time. This'll be the main version I'll be using from now on. :D

I don't know why thinking about the idea of "golden age Minecraft" has me so conflicted. But it seriously does. I genuinely don't know what to feel about it. On the one hand, Im mildly annoyed by it. Because Ive been playing since beta and genuinely think modern minecraft is the best version of the game there is. Theres just so much more to do, to explore. But at the same time, I don't play minecraft without mods anymore, and the mods I play with usually add progression systems, rpg mechanics, bosses etc. So how much of that enjoyment comes from modern minecraft itself rather than mods? At the same time, I both feel extremely nostalgic for the good old days and simultaneously feel like other people are blinded by their own nostalgia. That people look at the past with rose tinted glasses. Its created a weird mental conundrum for me, which, ultimately, is meaningless given its just a videogame, but nonetheless its been very interesting to think about. I don't know where I stand on it. Its true that I don't like how dismissive people are of modern minecraft, and thats been the case for a while (I loved the combat update and I still think Phantoms make for a fun challenge), but theres also a certain magical feeling when I think back to how things were. Sneaking on my dads computer while he was away to play with Sphax and Precisely Portal, watching Yogscast, hearing rumors about the nether portal only to finally make one myself.

i have been playing this mod pretty intensively for a few days and i'm amazed i keep finding new things. here's my most recent discovery: pebbles! you can get them easily from gravel in a trommel. i just assumed they were a crafting ingredient and nothing more, but it turns out, you can throw them? and PLACE them to make paths??? and you can place more than one per block to make it more/less dense????? this is the kind of thing i keep discovering about BTA!

I am reminded of RLcraft mod pack which is a combination of numerous mods and holy crap it is brutal yes but does require breaking the usual norms, of course some aspects require explanation like how to obtain planks. Though some monster pack mods need a sort of redo because slightly looking out of place but hey I do love the Ventoraptor, amazing speed. Also some monsters I recognize from other games like Heretic and Hexen.

Why are these sorts of mods popular? I played minecraft when I was a kid, but took a break through highschool and undergrad. Then, I tried to get back into it recently. Modern "vanilla" minecraft feels like a crappy modpack, not like what the game I fell in love with as a 10 year old felt like. I'm still re-exploring "classic" minecraft (I have a 1.7.3 world ongoing), but I imagine if I get bored of that, I'll explore these sorts of mods rather than play the modern version of the game.

I started playing Minecraft on the original version of the original Xbox One Edition (the equivalent of Java edition official release 1.6.4), but due to my dislike of newer versions of Minecraft (post 1.15 or even 1.12 depending on how I am feeling), I have slowly been exploring the past of Minecraft, before the official release. Better Than Adventure seems interesting, although because I'm me I always seem to find something I don't like with something (like the compass thing), but I could probably ignore that. Might check it out.

1. Even in Beta, compasses are still fairly useless because they only point to the original spawnpoint. 2. Compasses SHOULD be able to be set to any location 3. There's no need to "give the compass a use" when: a. If you give something a use, you're cluttering the game. It's okay for some things to just be decoration. b. What it should be able to do, point to a set location, is enough of a use. 4. The coordinate screen was never meant to be used in-game. It is a debug screen, made for troubleshooting. Looking at the coordinates in a survival world has always felt like cheating to me. (It's your game, so you can do whatever you want, but I'm just saying that the best solution isn't to make the compass necessary because of the debug screen. It's just to not use the debug screen. And if other players still use it, well then it's their loss.)

Nah. Better Than Adventure fells like modern Minecraft with Nostalgia Tweaks and beta terrain generation mods. Well, for me, the fact that instead of blocks of ore you get raw ore no longer feels like a thing that would have been added to the beta of Minecraft. And so with many little things, like with jars with fireflies or a block of the way. I prefer mods like Reindex and NSSS, which are more canonical, the contents of which Mojang would add to their game ine the early 2010s.

I totally agree for the most part - though BTA's entire point is to be a "polished" finalized beta version, which would naturally include things like QoL improvements and little detailed updates like the firefly lanterns. I didn't portray this very well in my video commentary, but BTA should be looked at as a continuation of what comes AFTER beta 1.7.3, whereas Reindev and NSSS are more parallel and tuned to the spirit of alpha/beta minecraft.

Dang man, this really sucks I absolutely loved your content, but it's really depressing to see every single video has to have at least *one* dig at modern Minecraft I started Minecraft over a decade ago so I loved all the nostalgia stuff, but I hate "nostalgia is better bc modern is bad!" That's not true at all. We can enjoy the present while looking back fondly at the past which is what this channel used to do. Now it's "ha ha modern Minecraft is bad, historically awful!" Really big shame, I'll miss these...

I have one problem with this mod. The way the game handles slime is extremely annoying. They're simply way too common. At no point am I ever gonna need 3 stacks of slimeballs.
