Brenner "loved" the kids like they were pets, not people. He was narcissistic and manipulative to the end, with some sort of father figure complex. He may have thought his intentions were good and that he knew what was best but, regardless of someone's intentions, it's not love when it's harmful to the recipient and the recipient is invalidated when they object.

I really really like this episode because of Brenner and Eleven arc. The music in the death scene is fucking awesome. It’s tragic, not because Papa died per se but because he died alone, as he should. Like El said, he never made right choices in his life. He is to blame for all El’s suffering. And now he is to blame for his own death. If he actually listened to El and the other doctor, he would be alive (then again, making bad choices). That’s why his character is so tragic. He thinks he is always on the right and when El literally slaps him with the reality of his ENTIRE life, he can’t hold it. He can’t stand being wrong on things (and lets face it, personally I wouldn’t accept that my life is a whole mistake). I love how Brenner character is written (not Brenner himself obviously) and the scene of El living him is so powerful. Is actually her being mature and understanding that not because he made one good decision, automatically he should be understood. That’s bullshit and El is now capable enough to realize that the one holding her back all the time was her abuser. So yeah, it’s also poetic in some way: Brenner dying=El being free, El living without the collar.

Will giving Mike that emotional support while secretly crying because he can't be open himself about his true feelings is my villain origin story. He's always been someone who puts everyone else's needs before himself. But it always makes him unhappy. Will should get to tell Mike. He should get to be happy. I have never felt more conflicted watching a character in this show than with this guy. He did bad. But even despite the bumps along the way, El still cried when she saw him bleeding out. Despite everything, they had a bond. A strange bond, but a bond nonetheless. And he let her go. I do think the relationship was a bit toxic. But it was also one of the first ones El ever had. So while she was sad to see him go, she also didn't forget all the bad he did. And I like the message of that. Even if you forgive someone a fraction, you don't have to forget the bad things they've done. And it's always within your right to walk away.

Uhhhh, yeah I think that would be a bad move. Why would you do that to the gay community? Do you know NOTHING about homophobia? Because your proposed plot is like something directly out of the 1950's anti-gay propaganda videos. Seriously, in one of those videos they talk about how you need to be careful because if you scorn their love they will be filled with murderous rage. And you're also by proxy comparing gay guys to women....."Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned". No, if you want Will to break bad you need to find another way. Like maybe in a fight with some demobats & demodogs El accidently kills Joyce and Will is just fed up with her "taking his love", "taking his mother from him", "taking his friends and leaving him with nothing but the upside down" would be a better motivation for him to break bad. In fact, I don't think we're quite ready for a gay character to break bad...period, but especially over romantic reasons. There's still way too much homophobia for that. And we ARE talking about some very unstable people. Marjorie Taylor Greene is homophobic and she also believes in Jewish space lasers. So are you certain SHE can handle a gay character breaking bad in a civilized manner? Because I sure as hell don't. Personally, I would love to see it because I kinda want to see what Noah would do with that material. But by doing your story I have no doubt that MTG would be like "see, see how gays are evil and immoral".

I love El's arc in this episode. Very often we look at stories who presents us a binary choice : forgiveness vs. holding a grudge. It's either being forgiving and be happy or holding the grudge and be miserable. But it's a false binarity, there's a third choice, which is just moving on. El acknowledges that her feelings for Brenner are mixed. She grieves the loss, she says good bye, but she doesn't forgive him, she doesn't even say that she understands how all the things he did were for her (because they weren't, he did it for himself). Brenner didn't get his redemption because the few little good things he did were just not enough against all the wrong he did and the hurt he caused. I've been tired of how the mainstream media hammers the idea that you need to forgive in order to move on. So I was glad to see when El moved on without doing it. She deserves to move on with her life and be freed of her past, but Brenner doesn't deserve her forgiveness.

In a way I think that is exactly what was needed. Sounds crazy, but think of One going rampage because "its a kid, we should treat him like that!" Brenner studied him and after he could not control him, he contained him and tried to move his powers to someone less sociopathic. He went pretty hard on those kids, but he did not just deal with normal kids - he dealt with kids that had powers and were dangerous, just because of that. Dr. Owen was right to involve him again, because he could not have done what Brenner did, because of his morals. He was a bad guy for other reasons, but not for what he tried to do with the kids and how he controled them. He handled a situation were no rulebook existed and he showed them compasion as well. The strong hand I think was just necessary to deal with the circumstances. Getting Benny killed was still a unforgivable crime. ;)

It's a tragic relationship formed from Lima Syndrome (Brenner) and possible Stockholm syndrome (EL) he did truly love her, but that love was deluded and came from a toxic environment. You can feel bad for Brenner as he really thought what he was doing was right, and when EL didn't lie to him that she understood it, you can see the pain and him being unable to handle what he had done to her as a child, the realisation that he's believed his own lies he told to her to 'protect her' I love how EL holds his hands as he died, not letting him die truly alone but also not letting him gain true satisfaction for his past.

Just my stupid theory : In season 1 Will gets kidnapped by demogorgon but what if it was actually vecna. In the 1st episode of season 1 when Will was calling for help you can see the door gets unlocked automatically just like how El does and vecna who has the similar powers can do. The silhouette that we see when Will was getting kidnapped feels similar to vecna rather than demogorgon. The demogorgons are attracted by the blood of it's prey but when will got attacked he was not hurt at all. Will would sing 'should I stay or should I go' repeatedly what if vecna was playing with Will's mind and he is singing the song to keep himself sane just like 'running up the hill' is for max. Vecna could have kidnapped him to upside down and without showing himself he could have played with Will's mind just like he did it with Max. As he didn't show himself Will could have mistaken that the demogorgon kidnapped him. Or vecna manipulated Will's mind in thinking so.

Obviously I hate Brenner, and even more so now after selling out Dr. Owens and collaring Jane. Though I don't know who gets second place of my hate list: Jason or Sullivan. On a brighter topic, if we put Jim and Murray in the same scene we're guaranteed some comedy. Yuri can be too extra at times, more so that Murray. vecna says that anger and rage makes your powers stronger, (source is 4x7) so what if the reason why he targets those with pain and trauma is so he can steal their souls and memories, making them his own to give him the boost that he needs.. which is why he's not exactly "killing" he takes memories and souls (source 4x7), then he crumbles the bodies and takes their eyes so if he ever gets defeated their souls and memories won't be able to return, making them lost huge spoilers for 4x9 view on your own risk if vecna gets defeated, max can survive but she'll be crippled in a wheelchair and blind
