Hi Robin, thanks a lot for the video ;) great to hear that you are also manual focusing. That is what I do most of the time with my Q in the streets. I will try your settings... Happy shooting! Looking forward to see more of your videos!

Hi, thanks for the explanation of the focusing issue. It sounds like there is a small focus shift like when shooting IR film. It's a little surprising because you're still recording visible light which the camera and lens are calibrated for. It must be pretty subtle since you only see it at longer focal lengths and wider apertures. Anyway, thanks for another great video!

Yes. It was also surprising to me.

I have another question for you...you made your experiences with a lot of Leicas....withe the Monochrome and also with the Q (in B&W?) mode... My first question would as i saw you shoot in color with the Q and convert them to bw because as i understood its possible to get more possibilities in f.ex. Lightroom to get a specific look... So the BW setting to direct shoot in BW with the Q you would probably not recommend if somebody has time to sit doen and to get the best out of his pictures... 2) The monochrome shoots directly in BW. What is in your experience the major difference between the end results then? Is it really like that that the monochrome has its own standard which is hard to beat? (I only know my Q) Thank you for taking time. Kind Regards Marcel
@therealsirrobin6 жыл бұрын
When shooting Raw there is no option for bw only on any camera except the Monochrom models. It's always better to convert in software later because you simply have more control. The Monochrom is nice but was really annoying from time to time, especially the highlights got lost extremely fast and the minimum ISO of 320 was also a pain in the ass. If I wanna shoot bw I rather shoot film with my M6, so I got rid of the Monochrom and I am not missing it at all.

Thank you so much~ That's super useful. But I have a question about metering setting. So can I ask which is your metering mode for street photography? Is it spot or Multi-field ?
@therealsirrobin5 жыл бұрын
You are welcome. I never use spot meter. When using a camera with an electronic viewfinder you can see how the the image will turn out and can compensate accordingly if you ae not happy with the exposure. 🤗
@tmacwk7 жыл бұрын
Great video, thank u. I wanna know that which knid of exposure measuring u use usually. Coz i feel that auto measuring is totally unreliable but manual measuring is taking quite a few seconds. second question is whether exposure compensation affects image quality.
@therealsirrobin7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I usually use matrix metering. In general it is hard to recommend what to use best because it comes down to what works best for you. Exposure compensation is not degrading image quality it is rather a tool to influence the camera meter reading. If used in a wrong way it might to a messed up exposure and therefore influence your output in a bad way.

Great tip! But unfortunately not everyone can do this in Korea since people are pretty defensive and might get offended when their photos are taken without a consent. I guess only a few if not none wouldve come up to you and complain about it because you are obviously, by look, a foreigner.

Great video. Could you discuss what you do in post-processing? Do you use Lightroom, Capture One or something else? How long do you usually take in each image?

Thanks! I use Lightroom and per image it takes me maybe 10-20 seconds.

I’m struggling choosing between a Q and an M. If you shoot all manual, why not shoot with an M? (Other than cost) why would you choose the Q instead? Thanks - big fan of your channel and work!
@therealsirrobin5 жыл бұрын
The Q is so easy to shoot with. If you shoot only 28mm and shoot both side by side, then you would probably also pick the Q over an M.

Hi Robin and congratulations for the work you do. Just one question: but if you set f11 and focus at 0.70 you will have a very small depth of field, about 50 cm. Outside this area and in the background will be all out of focus. Correct me if I'm wrong! Thanks in advance and congratulations again.

Your suggested is good. Today, I m in Gangnam under a shower but i still want to shoot photos! I use Leica M6 with 35mm. Then, I choose to use an ISO 400 BW film. What do you advise to set my camera on the street shooting?

Awesome video man (thumbs up). I have a question for you since you know a lot about Leica cameras, I just got the new Leica q2 and I was wondering what film style you use? Or would you recommend? (Standard-Vivid-Natural or other settings) I just want to take a color picture and know that the colors are on point. (the Leica colors)
@therealsirrobin5 жыл бұрын
I shoot RAW only and I can highly recommend you do the same, otherwise you're not using the full potential the camera has to offer.

Just found this channel, really digging it, really gorgeous photos. I have a question though: I shoot with a Nikon f3 & wonder if these settings would translate well in the f3. Your settings seem 2 b fool proof!
@therealsirrobin7 жыл бұрын
Thank you Alexander! The exposure settings are different on a film camera because there you should rather overexpose the film instead of underexposing it. Enjoy your F3! 👍

Doesn't f/11 and 1/1000 underexpose massively? I was out in London the other day trying to use sunny 16 with bright sunlight but it kept on massively underexposing my shots, so I changed to what the meter said. How do yours not underexpose?
@therealsirrobin6 жыл бұрын
Yes it does and that is on purpose to get the look that I want. However that only works with modern digital cameras and is not doable when shooting film.

Can you suggest best focal length for crop sensor body like Nikon d7500 for shooting on street..
@therealsirrobin6 жыл бұрын
Something in between 18 and 24mm.
@larsrosing50336 жыл бұрын
Regarding the redfilter issue, it doesn't make sense, because when you are focusing you are looking through the viewfinder and the small window on the opposite side of the viewfinder, Therefore not through the lens, and the lens focuseres only to what you set it to, wich is very precise. The only reason should be that the red light hitting the sensor is having another wavelength and therefore a different focal plane. ;) Love your videos also, good work ;)
@therealsirrobin6 жыл бұрын
It makes sense if you take into account that different wave lengths of light have different focus distances and a red filter will favor specific wave lengths and that will shift your focus. Just google it and you will find more on that topic.

the Leica uses CONTRAST FOCUS so, RED FILTER, for the camera's computer causes it to have a Meltdown....like the Computer in the Movie 2001 Space Odyssey.....

Hi! The question needs to be more specific. I am not sure if it makes sense to compare those two cameras, they are both targeted at totally different kind of user. For the purpose of an awsome camera for street photography, the Leica Q is much better suited. Hope that helps!

Hallo Robin, super Kanal!

Thanks a lot for the great tips for street with Leica Q. May I know what exposure metering mode you will suggest for street? In fact, I hit the street more at night, what will you recommend for the setting with the Q? Thank you :)
@therealsirrobin7 жыл бұрын
Hi Debby, I usually use matrix metering or fully manual. I am very rarely shooting street at night but whenever I do I prefer to shoot in manual mode.
@RohamBroccoli7 жыл бұрын
There is no reason to "miss focus" with filter in front your lens with rangfinder camera since the system is not ttl.
@therealsirrobin7 жыл бұрын
I am sorry to inform you that this is not true. Color filters will shift the focus. Just google rangefinder+red filter+focus shift and you should find out more about it

I am not sure if people like you to stick your camera in their faces with a pre-focused distance of ~ 1 m. Should be more discrete a about 3 m away from people.

I am not using a big DSLR that makes a big difference. The Leica Q is a very discrete camera and even when getting close nobody is complaining at all. ;)

Did you have the same experience in different countries? People don’t have problems with being photograph at close distance? Someone was yelling at me if I took his photo when I was 3m away taking photo of a scene! Using Q2. I’m in Australia btw.
