In this video, we talk about the Ruger LCP .380 and other small-frame "Pocket Rocket" pistols. While these are very easy to conceal, and super light to carry - there are trade-offs involved with these guns.

Had my LCP over 10 yrs, hundreds of rounds of FMJ & HP absent a single malfunction. I even mixed different brands of FMJ & HP into a single mag and it still ran perfectly. This is a perfect always-gun for a retired senior citizen whose daily orbits are pretty tame. I shot 100 + rounds through my LCP a couple of weeks ago and while it ran perfectly my hand was sore for a couple of days.

Glad to know i am not alone. I have owned ruger lcp 380 for 4 years. My first pistol. Had no knowlege of gun and ammo dynamics. Took me very long time to get used to the recoil, poor sights, and the trigger pull . I was attracted by the small size and comfort in the pocket.

Totally not alone - I have had multiple students with these or something similar for these same reasons... While I admit that they are small and super easy to conceal, there is a big trade-off to their small size. This is 100% what I encourage people to "test drive" any pistol BEFORE they buy it. One more GREAT service offered by many of the "local ranges" that most of the big box stores cannot offer.

100% agree! had a very nice young lady on the range try to qualify. Her husband bought her an LCP and told her this would do. (Note: Husbands dont by your wife a pistol!) So she was not going to qualify. As an teaching RSO I gave her a shield and prceeded to teach how to shoot. She quickly gained confidence and qualified. She then went out to the sales floor and purchased a shield. She came back with her husband for advanced classes and they are both competent to carry. As for myself I have a LCP as a deep concealment pisiol. I had gone to a Underwood/ Lehigh fluid transfer round as a carry defensive round. This is a GTFO me gun so we are not talking about anything more than 3 yards to bad breath distances. I shoot it every range seesion (1 mag worth).

I too will confess to carrying an LCP in the summertime for deep conceal, but in truth it is just enough to get me out of a close-quarters situation, or as back-up for an edged device.

I edc a sig p365 but the lcp is a lot smaller. The Shield 9mm is my retired carry gun. The LCP is best for deep concealment, like gym clothes in the summer.

I've been looking at the LCP. I get what you're saying as far as recoil and small frame goes. I've read a lot of comments by people that swear by there's. I've also seen a few mods that could make it more user friendly. Thanks for your honest review.

Thanks for the support!!! I try to present as much information as possible and let folks make the best decision for their situation. Do I own a Ruger LCP?... Yup!! Is it my favorite pistol to carry/shoot?... Nope!! If you are looking for a small frame "pocket rocket", check out some of the other offerings from Ruger - very similar to the LCP but 10 or 15rd mags as opposed to the 6 in the LCP. A little more weight to carry, BUT that weight will help with controllability!!!

The LCP is a modern day Derringer, but with a 6+ capacity. I'd much rather carry it than a Derringer. It's not a range or SHTF gun. It's for throwing in your pocket to go to an event or to the convenience store. I carried a .38 Derringer before this thing came out. Want something better than this or a Shield? Get the F&N Reflex. $499. 15+1 capacity.

What about LCP Max 380 for old people, weak grip strength?
@thegunclubpod3 ай бұрын
Honestly - it would not be my first choice in that situation - I would look into the S&W EZ or Equalizer. Both of these have the "light rack slide" feature, which has proven to be very well received by those with limited grip strength!!
