My feeling is that Trump picks entirely by loyalty at this stage, so there is a high probability that most of his official or shadow picks will be evil or unsuitable, but also incompetent. Competence never seems to factor into his decision-making at all. Which is why, despite the GOP trifecta & the abominable intentions of Project 2025, we have some reason to hope they won't be able to inflict maximum damage. The internal dissension and tissue-thin majority in the House will help too.

Actually he was quite blatant about this the first go 'round. Most of his Cabinet picks were placed "temporarily" so he could bypass Congress completely and just appoint them. And in the long run, that turned out to be a good thing. None of his Cabinet members seem to have stayed more than a year or so which meant all Congress would have gotten done was interviewing prospective Cabinet members. He didn't listen to any of them. I doubt very much he's going to listen to any of these.

We have to be smart enough to ask candidates questions based on a knowledge of those rules and judge candidates by their answers. Back in the 60s, 70s and 80s my Dad had top secret compartmentalized level Q clearance. Basically depending on the project, only Dad, certain Pentagon officials, nasa officials, certain astronauts, and/or certain members of the president's cabinet and the president knew the entirety of specific projects. Only the people who had authority to know the full story knew what was really going on. Dad never talked specifics, even when the 50 year waiting period completed. So we can only hope the people with high level clearance follow their mandates.
