I so wish they would pass a law that says ‘If you have the word NEWS in your name, broadcast or in the background, you are bound to FCC and Journalistic standards.” In the old days News was trusted, if an error was made they were required to issue a retraction/correction in the same spot it was in print, or in the same time slot or media used. We need to do a better job educating people about the basics of how a "free capitalist" economy actually works, usually only to the benefit of the people at the top of the Fat Cat Food Chain. That's why the moneyed class continually pushes their Republicans and MAGA extremists to kill funding to state schools, kill the Department of Education, and kill public schools altogether, in favor of FOR PROFIT schools, private schools only the moneyed class can afford for their kids while getting tax write-offs (in Wisconsin) for their expensive tuitions, and "voucher" schools. For profit and voucher schools deliberately fail to teach children what they need to know in order to actually educated citizens - and it's done on purpose. To the moneyed class, an educated worker class is a DANGER.

I would absoluitely *love* to see Democratic presidents start slowly chipping away at trickle down's "legacy". We have decades of proof clearly demonstrating that it absolutely doesn't work, and that the entire country was better off with tighter business regulations and a bottom-and-middle-out economic growth model. It would obviously take decades to undo the damage the trickle down fairytale caused, but we already know what happened before then. We can help things get better across the board, or we can ignore it while wealth continues to build in the 1% only as everything continues to get worse for everyone else. The decision seems pretty simple to me.

The idea was to act fast to make the recession less severe and help families." The purpose of the rule, first published in 2019, was to encourage the government to send out money to people who need it before a recession is actually present, in order to minimize the harm to the people out of work. The "Sahm rule" is a measure of change in unemployment, but even when "triggered" is not the standard for whether a recession exists, or whether any recession will be significant. .

My annual income was cut by $15,000 in 2021 because I was told I made too much money for my position yet I took on more responsibilities. Now I’m recently facing a 10% increase in rent, car insurance and the over all increase for base living expenses like utilities and food. I’m really concerned about what will happen with Social Security! I apologize for my rant! We desperately need change in our system so future generations have a chance at the so call American dream!

Ohhh my gosh, how scary for you, Debbe. I'm so sorry you're in that position. I sure do hope things turn around for you soon. 🙏

I love your comment. “The stock market is not the economy, you are.” And it’s true.

"the stock market is not the economy, you are" one of the best common sense econmic quotes I've heard in a while

Can I just tell you how much I enjoy watching Ms. Belle? She has that similar half smile that Beau would get sometimes when something was a little amusing to deliver. Which wasn't often in the past, but lately with a shift in the air, one that feels like hope, we get to see more of that twinkle in the eye. We've waited a long time for this and while it's not over, I am not ashamed nor afraid of optimism right now. Of course, we still must vote!!!

Woman writes Sahm Rule. Broligarchs pretend to know the Sahm Rule and ignore the advice of the woman who wrote it. That tracts.

My solution for fixing the US standard of living/wages: Pass a law that House reps wages are based on the median wages in their districts. That's it. I think we'd find a lot more house reps were in favor of a minimum wage and a minimum standard of living when it directly impacts their own pocket books.

Or it would just incentivize Congressmen from poor districts to take more bribes. The solution is to repeal Citizens United and get big money out of politics.

And if they don't actually drive any problems, they don't do their jobs, their party gets withheld until they resolve the situation. They're would never be a cartoonish attempt to "work on a national budget" for almost two straight years again. Lasting problems would all magically be solved before one of their many, many breaks from that point forward.

"The stock market is *not* the economy..." THANK YOU!!! I've been yelling that at people for eight years now (at least!). It's good that it's being said by people that might get listened to...

A recession is something that happens every 7 to 10 years. I like to call it a buying opportunity!
