I was discussing Labor’s game plan at the current moment with a friend and I noted that Albo, for an opposition leader has been kinda quiet. Usually when there’s a new OL they set themselves within the party and public eye very quickly. Albo has been very methodical with how he’s gone about being known and alongside these developments I believe it was the plan from the start. Labor have seen that the Libs have been held together with dental floss for the last term and after the bushfires they decided to just let them collapse and step away from the public eye so come election they look better by comparison. I’ve heard of so many of my peers who don’t study politics that they are severely outraged with Scott. Entire classes at my school have been devoted to talk about how he’s screwed up within the last week and it leads me to believe that this strategy is working. Come election I’ll be curious as to how Labor runs with this.
@AngieTrianta3 жыл бұрын
A very insightful comment. IMO, Albo’s political strategy so far has been smart. He’s been in politics for a long time. Bill Shorten was very outspoken and he was portrayed in such a negative light by the media and the Coalition. Albo’s strategy is different. Why not let the Coalition hang themselves? They’re doing such a good job of it.
@MusicMasterTasmania3 жыл бұрын
I have a bit of a different perspective. Many that I've talked to who don't support liberal are like 'Labors not much better' or 'Albo is not a good leader'. Many want Penny or Tanya to be the leader instead. I don't know how much Labor has been shown in the mainstream news as I don't watch it too much, but Labor really needs to represent them self as a better alternative. Although, it could go the same way that got Liberal in. The public were so sick of the infighting in Labor that they just wanted a fresh new government. The problem is, the infighting of that period has tainted Labor. People still remember it and still hold them to account for it, even though its been 8 years and Liberal has had three different leaders! People also still believe that Labor were the reckless spenders. So many still believe the lies that Liberal came up with whilst in opposition, and kept spewing out when they got into government as well. So I think its still going to be a battle for Labor to get back in.
@bensherman89253 жыл бұрын
To my mind it’s a little bit like the Biden strategy, don’t say or do anything too scary. Let your opponent make an absolute d@ck of himself, the swing voters will be so cringe they will vote for you even if they don’t really support you.
@karenmanagerwanter17443 жыл бұрын
All of that is obvious and it doesn't make Labor brilliant for doing it. Have you noticed that no one even talks about the Bushfires anymore? Why is that? It's because Labor thinks by letting Liberals control the media narrative indefinitely that they'll somehow trip all over themselves at Just The Right Time and save Labor having to campaign or form their own distinct identity, let alone be interesting enough to talk about. What actually happens is that after the media get bored, the right-wing once again gets to decide the agenda and Labor quickly goes back to being utterly irrelevant. The Libs choose the time of the election and they've got more than a year to get a muzzle back on the press. They will ride this scandal out just like they did back in 2018-2019. Albo needs to get in front of this and start talking about what an alternative Labor government would look like and what their vision is.
@karenmanagerwanter17443 жыл бұрын
@@bensherman8925 The Biden situation was completely different. First of all the media in the United States is by and large loyal to the Democrats by default, Fox News not withstanding. Secondly, Trump is psychotic and letting him be the story is generally a better strategy than ceding to boring daggy-dad, who usually appears stable and reliable in comparison. Thirdly, their covid situation was awful enough that Trump's impudent refusal to do anything about it finally jolted enough dipshit boomers out of their trance because what he was (not) doing actually, finally, affected them. If he had handled COVID competently he more than likely would have won a second term.

Recently I was kind of wondering how the dynamic of a bad government with good press, and a good government with bad press works, it'd supposedly make it the good government has to be really good in order to even have a chance of being elected, so I fear that Labor having a good press could start to have a negative impact on their willingness to do better things, since their backs could be covered by the press. I feel like it's analogous to "bad times make strong men, strong men make good times, good times make weak men, weak men make bad times," and in this scenario Labor is the strong men, so I hope the good or better press doesn't turn them into the weak men over time, this is a very sceptical and pessimistic view, but it's just one fear. Who knows, maybe in the far future Labor will be what the Liberal government is now, and since there is no money to made in the Liberal party since they wouldn't be in power often enough, they turn into what the Labor party is now.

Interesting take on it, but I disagree on a couple of points: 1. Scomo was NEVER good on his feet or handling the press. He has been a PR disaster from the outset. The press have just always given him a free pass until now. It’s been nothing but kid glove treatment. Murdoch has now given them permission to take off the gloves and he is being exposed for the defunct android that he is. 2. There is no way in a fit Murdoch is doing this to switch sides. He just wants to switch leaders to make this about personality politics because - let’s face it - the Libs have made a monstrous mess of everything and the wheels are about to fall off, so they ain’t winning the next election on policy. My prediction is they are playing the gender card, will now put a woman in the top job and then paint Labor as having another entitled old white man in charge, virtue signalling that Libs are somehow progressive because... vaginas.

I'd love to see an in depth run down of the inner factions to the parties, with org charts and headshots etc. All I ever hear is the wets want this but the drys want this and then the wets said this and I just go cross eyed. Break it down for us.

So... Can someone delineate the Crazies/Christians? Also, learning that Scott Morrison is allegedly popular in any way makes me wish that Gina had nuke-mined the entire country. I honestly think that the slight and temporary Murdoch flip has more to do with mild anxiety about an R.C... Although it's extremely mild, it could slightly inconvenience them.
