Hey candle newby here. Do the oils have to be the same Flash point in order to mix them together ....from what I read you can only add oils at certain temperatures
@candlescience2 жыл бұрын
Hi! The flashpoint of the fragrance oils is actually not related to the temperature at which they can be added to the wax so you can definitely mix fragrances of two different flashpoints together! We just recommend not using more fragrance than your wax can hold, and that can vary between waxes. We typically recommend adding fragrance to melted wax at 185°F for the best results but some waxes may require a higher temperature. The flashpoint will really only come into play when working with gel wax, as it is recommended to only use fragrances with a flashpoint 170°F and above.

What can I blend with Neroli? I want to blend an orange fragrance called Amber but not sure what proportions to use.
@candlescience2 жыл бұрын
Neroli and orange or amber scents should typically blend well! I tried our Neroli and White Jasmine with some Amber Noir and it was very nice! I'd recommend testing your blends at a 50/50 ratio and then adjusting from there if you would like one scent to be stronger than the other. Blotter strips are great for this so you don't end up wasting a lot of fragrance.

No. 75-25 blend would be a 3-1 ratio. Using the first line for one FO plus the second line for the other FO would be a 2-1 blend. I know this is a year later, but hopefully this helps a future viewer!

@candlescience2 жыл бұрын
For clean aquatic, I might try Sel de Mer with a touch of Vetiver! Some other aquatic scents to experiment with though will be High Tide, Sea Minerals, and Black Coral and Moss. For something darker, Amber Noir can be a good base and adding some Suede and Smoke or some Lavender adds complexity to it. To see more of our masculine scents, take a look at the Fragrance Finder to see if anything pops out at you! www.candlescience.com/fragrance-oil-finder/?order=Alphabetical&Masculine=searchable_categories%3A%22Masculine%22

So I have blended fragrance oils in the past 1:1 ratio and pour in the jars. The wax ratio is the same, the wax brand is the same, the wicks are the same, and so is the pouring temp. Yet some canisters yield a few more grams after cooling than others. This happens alot when I use different fragrances. Is this a fragrance oil density issue? What would cause this?

It's likely due to the fill levels of each individual candle being ever so slightly different. 🙂

Hello! I have one doubt, is it possible to blend different brands of fragrance oils? I made a candle with caramel, vanilla and lemon, each one from different shops. I used 9-10% and the result was colored oil (like orange) at the botton of the candle. Very ugly, like oxide around the metal base of the wick. And bubbles of oil at the bottom as well. Why this happened?
@candlescience3 жыл бұрын
Hi! You can absolutely experiment with blending fragrance oils from different companies but some combinations might work out a bit better than others. If the oils have different instructions, recommendations, or ingredients it might be difficult to perfect the blend but testing is the best way to see which work best for you! In this case, it sounds like the fragrance oil did not fully blend with the wax. We'd recommend possibly lowering the fragrance percentage for this blend as scents with citrus or vanillin can cause more of a color shift. Adding the fragrance to the wax at 185 degrees F would be something else to try as well if you have not already.
@sunflower2602852 жыл бұрын
Is there a certain percentage between two scents when blending
@candlescience2 жыл бұрын
It can depend on whether or not you'd like one scent to be stronger than the other. I typically start with a 50/50 blend and adjust from there if needed. If you'd like to favor one scent over the other, you could try a 70/30 ratio.

Almond as a single note scent would be very difficult to create. A few factors can contribute to fragrance oil not binding well to the wax. Typically, we'd recommend adding the fragrance to the wax at 185°F for the best results. If the wax you are using has a different recommendation, you can absolutely test that as well! Using more fragrance than the wax can hold can also cause this issue. If you are using more scent than the maximum percentage your wax can handle, try lowering the amount of fragrance oil and be sure to weigh out all of your ingredients using the same unit of measurement, ideally weighed ounces or grams. If you are still seeing separation issues though, please feel free to reach out to our Support team with some more information about your materials and process and we'd be happy to see if we can offer some more personalized advice!
