I would still buy from eBay because if they still have the $250 free authentication because that’s important. I hope the vault is still part of ebay apps, but own by PSA, because they can do the authentication where the vault is, instead of shipping around wasted time and may have a chance to lose the slab.

It’s getting hard to make deals even for only modern like even at collect a con they didn’t even wanna go down 10 bucks it was crazy and eBay is becoming that too so idk luckily I got a lot of cards I’ve always wanted so but in the future idk

I don’t know if its just me but its getting harder and harder to get some good deals on vintage card. And now with no ebay vault itll be even harder for everyone.

Yep everything is going to be more difficult in general. Back to the stone ages. Mercari will be a safe haven for sellers but still not ideal for collectors and buyers… there’s got to be a better middle ground a company can create. Someone needs to disrupt all these platforms. 😂

@@orionsires Veriswap is pretty good for now, they charge 1.5% of the total trade value so if you compare it to normal sales it’s around a 3% fee for both parties (they net 6% essentially). You have to pay for return shipping UNLESS the total trade value is >$1000. So that could be a pretty significant “fee” for lower value trades. Also ppl seem to be pretty stingy with trading with cash on there. But liquidity seems to be a lot higher than Mercari.

Why do people worry so much on getting super good deals on vintage but simultaneously believe they will be worth a lot in the decades to come. You should worry about just getting your hands on as many as you can while dollar cost averaging as you go. On average return you'll be in the serious green in the end.

That’s a valid point but when it comes to super high end stuff it’s really difficult to get several copies of the same card ya know. This is easier with modern singles and modern boxes though. 😎

@@orionsires and that's very far. But if your not flipping time in the market is better than timing the market. Been true for every assets class even real estate. My thing is if you plan to keep it in your collection for minimum 7 years probably you have these cards for decades just buy it. You wait a couple years for lower prices that may not come now you are priced out. I treat accumulation the same as any asset class stack as much as you can as quick as you can then wait

Should make it interesting. Mercari looking very tasty to sellers right now. Ebay messing up with selling Ebay Vault especially since Ebay is the #1 place to sells collectibles.

I think Ebay made a decision for the money short term but made a massive mistake in the end. 🤷🏻‍♀️

i just use the PWCC vault, it works great. just hold the cards in the vault for 3 months, best option.

Orion have you tried veriswap? You could probably pick up grails by trading other cards instead of selling those cards to buy grails. You would probably save on ebay fees and time.

If the eBay vault goes under it’s probably the next best place to sell cards. They charge about 3% each to the buyer and seller for trades.

PSA acquiring the eBay Vault absolutely gives them an advantage in the first-to-market race. New desirable modern cards will be hitting the market faster than ever. PSA is playing chess, while all these other grading companies are playing checkers. Great Video, Brotha!

Using the vault to circumvent sales taxes is something a lot of people do but FYI you are openly talking about and suggesting to people sales tax evasion lol. Technically if you withdraw it for personal use you need to declare that on your year end state taxes and pay those sales taxes you would have been charged if fulfilling directly to yourself.

Off topic but have you been paying attention to the Rayquaza V? I think as going to mention it the other day as a potential pump and dump but didn't want to say anything because I was trying to buy some. It's looking like it's about to climb to Umbreon V. Hard to say if it will be this weekend or the next but not many available in the market right now and it's been climbing steadily over past week.

Well you grade through PSA and can click to send it to be listed on eBay essentially through their vault program I assume 🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s mad, I have a good friend who owns a decent sized business and he’s got 50 percent of his profits in Pokémon cards, I think it’s mad that he’s pumping huge amounts of money into cards, it just shows how money is coming into the hobby

Flowing from legitimate income sources that are traditional into a non traditional investment/collectible. Very interesting indeed. I do it too. It’s very addicting and I think that’s a big part of it no matter how you spin it. 😂

Unfortunately its just the tip of the iceberg. Pokemon has some of the biggest whales in the world now involved, with these being large legitimate corporations with access to capital only a very very small percentage of the world have access to. not only that, but then there's the countless wealthy single investors, business ventures, asian economy cash flow whales and UAE cash flow/investors and collectors with millions of capital to consider. I am not suprised things are becoming so much harder. Sadly the margins are becoming more and more slim and opportunity for the more "normal" cash flow buyers being able to obtain certain items is certainly lessening. I am worried the market will soon implode on itself from a modern "investment" standpoint and people will actually become priced out of the hobby unless a huge bearish crash happens. I think a price crash correction needs to happen in order for things to be a little more sustainable especially from a modern standpoint for the hobby. Of course money can be made but the plays will now have to become more and more meticulous with many perspectives being taken on what cards/sealed will REALLY be a good unique asset investment class to obtain. This is why card buyouts like the Gastly are happening which again is damaging for the hobby as well.

Killer write up thanks for contributing to the topic and putting some time into this response. Hopefully others will read it as well and pull some knowledge from it. Agreed things are going to get much worse and it is the reason many are leaving the hobby. We just can’t compete. I hope to see some kind of correction as well. It won’t be great for all my collection pieces but it’s only natural we’ll see a crash of some sort. We have seen a slight correction on everything since the pandemic but it’s definitely not a full reset. 😎

@@orionsires I think the hardest thing for us more normal collectors/speculative investors is that realistically we are goldfish in the now circling sharks ocean. its now becoming more and more difficult to stay within a reasonable price range in any area of the hobby. Unfortunately with FOMO influencer culture being at an all time high it also helps push narratives and markets into a HUGE bubble like state and that is something that just does not seem sustainable with the modern aspect of collecting/pokemon, especially because modern does not really hold any actual historical rarity or scarce value. I think the hobby has rewarded many of us but currently I'd proceed with caution and spend wisely as I feel a huge market dump of product is not so far away. I do feel vintage is a far safer play but equally is prone to being completely market manipulated due to less availablity.

Not sure if I agree that this means the eBay vault is going to start charging significantly higher fees and/or sales tax returning on it. For one, eBay had always planned to monetize the vault with 4% feels towards the buyer for vaulted items. There’s no reason that fee can’t just go to PSA if they handle the authentication and manage the vault in Delaware or wtvr. Also, they specifically mentioned that graded cards can be directly listed onto eBay after grading instead of waiting for shipping. This should indicated eBay’s willingness to share their platform with Collector’s to sell on. Not to mention, without goldin auctions, there’s no conflict of interest with eBay and collectors for who gets market share of the online auction house market. Collectors is doing what it does best, grading, and eBay handles the resale market. It wouldn’t make sense for collectors/PSA to keep their same fee levels with what should be a significantly higher volume of vaulted items in the eBay vault. Again I could be wrong, but it really just wouldn’t make sense imo to get rid of the benefits of the eBay vault completely.

Trust me I’m with you but I think they are getting rid of it entirely in a few weeks/months only time can tell. They might even pivot before finalizing things or do it and then update policies/fees etc.. We’ll see soon! 😎

@@orionsires Ah ok I did a bit more research. They had a press release and official posts on the PSA website which detailed the fee change. It sounds pretty awful and I’m really not sure if the Psa vault will have any real use. Cause honestly… I sometimes list cards when they get encapsulated anyways. It doesn’t sound like the sales tax change is going anywhere though.

I mean for a lot of people they don’t see the expense part of it because it can create value so they price that in, but for me grading is an extra amount of money I can use towards things I really want. But also grading is how many people grow their graded collection on a budget. Totally understand from that perspective. 😎

@@orionsires I think psa is bringing in eBay because blackrock bought cgc for 500m they are using the vaults and this is my hot take …as a testing ground to bring pokemon nft. Because vanguard owns cgc and eBay now working with psa. One big umbrella corporation

@@orionsires I can also see psa using the shared vaults as new feature to use eBay as a middleman for trades. So you can trade psa cards with other psa members using the vault. Feels like a lighter version of an Pokemon nft if you are keeping a physical copy of the card in a vault and you are just selling and trading for the card online and up charge to get the physical copy. I think Pokemon new game will be like top shot from basketball
