Your description of your Rottweiler is my Flex exactly. He is so chill most of the day. He just need a couple walks, some time to throw his toys around, some scratches/love, and then he sits and looks out the window devising a plan to get at the stray cats in the neighborhood.

As someone who lives with 7 Kangals, I'm pleasantly surprised that Mr. Anthony considers the Kangal #1 and I totally agree with everything he said. I keep 6 of them in the house with me and they are gentle with a bunch of farm cats that come in and out and literally sleep with cats next to them and are naturally gentle with small animals they know are part of the farm, but will jump over a 4' fence to confront anyone coming into the driveway with their ferocious bark and the "Kangal roar," and then totally chill and wag their tails to follow the visitors arouhd completely friendly as soon as I welcome the visitors and say they're ok. I really like the fact that they will confront and stop visitors without immediately attacking, and they do this all naturally without any type of protecting training from me.

Once again I enjoy listening to your podcast and your videos when you invite other professionals to interact in a conversation about the various types of breeds with knowledge as well as those that have actual experience professionally and training those various breeds. To decide on which breed to purchase to ( have/own ), the next question and concern to conclude my decision, would solely or primarily be based on my home, and who's living there. If one has a family, and also children that would be a major factor. However there are people that don't have a family and they're by themselves that would be a determining Factor as well based on the living conditions of a person that is interested in getting a puppy, the based on who's living in the facility some people would a puppy/dog, just for the sake of having a Pet or companion, naturally to purchase a breed that is a working line breed, which they all have some type of prey drive, deciding on which to get, is very important to do research, Also living situations and conditions, would play in making that decision, due to the personality of the breed 🤔. Without a doubt, if one is not not willing to put the time in for at least Obedient training, would be very unwise to aquire one.

The only dog that I would drop of the list is the chow chow. I had one for years, and they are very nice but not as smart as the rest of the dogs on the list. I would definitely replace the chow with a Giant Schnauzer.

I have a chow cross shar pei and she is a natural guard dog from a very young age it probably just depends on the stock you can access where you are. If you had a buddhist monastry bred chow chow open faced long legged and bred to work that is a different animal to the show bred narrow gene pool chow bred for modern looks. No doubt you can get better giant schnauzer stock for work in america than you can chow but a chow will do the job without training due to temperament. An equivalent to that in the uk would be if wanted a healthy sighthound running dog your better of getting a whippet or lurcher than a show bred pharoah hound or Azawak for example.

@@olihallam9667 I’m sure my association to chow chow is limited to my experience and the few readings I have done on the breed. Thank you for your reply. However, I do sincerely hope you to train Giant Schnauzers and compare them to chows. Giant Schnauzers are natural guards and more personal protection than many other breeds that are frequently mentioned. After 40 years of owning several German breeds, I can positively tell you Giant Schnauzers are the most underrated dogs for what they can do.

Chows are very smart and protective (and Akita's) however they (both) are much more independent and not as eager to please or even drivey which is definitely a reason why they tend to not be used in protection or excel

Can confirm with regards to the chow chow's innate protectiveness. We had a rescued chow chow x pitbull mix growing up and when I was a baby she would sit in the hallway with her back to the door of my room when I slept. If anyone other than my parents went towards that door she would scare them off with a snarl or a bark. Gotta love the loyalty.

It has already proven to have longer life, better health, smaller tighter lips, less or no drool, less skin flopping in its eyes causing eye problems, fewer wrinkles for sure which can cause skin problems...VERY ATHLETIC , AGILE.

All dogs can fail in a real life scenario. Recently a Boerboel creeped behind his owner, when they confronted a burglar. Famous "bite development and working lines" proves nothing. You must search for heartlines, and prove that Dog in a real life situations, without him knowing what a sleeve is, especially if you want a true protector for your wife and children.
