So glad to see you back! I'm not a Katy stan, but I can relate to the frustration of seeing your fav put out generic stuff... and liking it anyway. Sometimes what we say we want and what we actually want are two different things. That said, while the song is catchy, I think it's too generic to have real impact. The stereotypical imagery is also a turnoff for me, so I can't say I'm rooting for it, but I'm open to what else is on the album.

I pretty much agree with your assessment. I have always been a fan of Katy's, but from 2008 to 2016, I was just a "normal level" fan. When her "Witness" era came in 2017, I became absolutely obsessed. I LOVED her blond pixie cut and still think it was her best look (I definitely know I'm in the minority with that opinion). I was in disbelief with the hate train that started at that time. 95% of all online comments I read about her at that time were not just negative, but mercilessly so. I so loved the direction she was seemingly headed in, with that album... but apparently no one else did. I really liked the "365" collaboration with Zedd. I felt it deserved to blow up, but sadly it didn't. I feel like her output from 2017 - 2020 was near perfect and I don't know that I'm going to feel the same way about this new era. Regardless, I'm still gonna remain obsessed with her. When you think about it, "Chained to the Rhythm" was so much deeper on so many levels than "Woman's World". Yet it failed. I think that's precisely why she's back to making songs like the one that just dropped last night. Do you sort of agree? As an aside, "Woman's World" is going to have a little over 3 million views by the 24 hour mark. Respectable? Yes. But good for Katy? Absolutely not. For example. even though "Bon Appetit" was considered a chart flop and was made fun of, more than anything... it still managed to amass 16 million KZbin views in its first 24 hours. 16 million vs. 3 million. That's QUITE a step down. And that was even considered her flop era. Do you agree with any of this?

So on the basis of views - I think KZbin in 2024 just doesn't get as many views on music videos as it used to in general. I feel like in 2017 it was the GO TO, but I feel like even the biggest pop artists of the day don't get that same traction as they used to. I Can be wrong... but I think 3 million in 2024 youtube is not bad for Katy. a lot of major artists have 1-2 million in the first day still. I think the interest is there for katy still... she had a lot of hype in the beginning before the leak of the snippet of the song and the dr luke stuff. I genuinely think if she had just come out with a big club banger type of anthem OR a pop-rock smash with a dance flavor and had no ties to dr luke, she could have really hit it big here.

@Fayik Thanks for replying. I guess I see your point, regarding number of views. One other thing, though. Her last two albums had zero ties to Dr. Luke (so no controversy regarding THAT, at least)... yet still flopped big time. I feel like back then, people were saying those eras were flops because Luke WASN'T involved... yet now they're kinda saying the opposite. I understand what the controversy is about (Ke$ha accusations). However, those accusations were already known back in 2017 and 2020, and I remember reading comments from people saying "... if she'd just work with Dr. Luke again and let him work his magic..." Well, we got precisely THAT, this time around, after a two album absence... yet she's facing backlash for it. It kinda seems to me like she just can't win, at this point.

The tea is that yes it’s very generic but katy has always made generic music so it’s nothing really that different for her, the problem is that everyone is out to get her cus of the dr luke thing and they’re pissed lmao. But I guess all press is good press at the end of the day, and the song is definitely going to be a guilty pleasure for many people. It’s not a serve but I’m still living for it !!

I feel you..like we love our girl but she needs to come up with sonething better after all these years in the music business..she keeps on making generic pop songs that’s why the critics always slams her and don’t take her seriously. I think this is exactly what she wanted. Clearly she wants to introduce herself to the gen z (as shown on the video) and it’s easy to sing along. She has great lead singles like Chained to The Rhythm and NRO but again like what you said they’re not making noise. So she purposely released this stupid ear worm we love 😂
