I once saw someone put stickers on the bottom of his shoes to take pictures in them and return them. I said wow! And he didn’t wear socks. Literally posted the video. 🤦🏾‍♀️ That’s why certain brands put strings and outside tags so you can’t return the item if you remove the outside tag or ribbon.

I recently had to back out of a trip because I just can’t afford it. I have to help my sister cover her expenses until she goes back to work so in just had to admit that it was beyond my means rather than use credit cards to fund the trip. I had to be responsible and real. 🤷🏾‍♀️

A KZbinr by the name of Nick Lewis (interior design) talked about this very thing! He said it best, 'you can't out consume an influencer'. They're paid to consume and try things. Some of them literally get FREE furniture and clothes. They're literally PAID by brands to help drive sells. This practice is worse than any commercial advertising of old. 😂 Any of them with integrity (there are many) that let be known they get PR and have brand deals.

I also pray that God give you all strength to overcome and heal. Listen I am a Goodwill, Shein, yard sale junkie. I do buy regular but only if it is a sale and something I really wanted. I agree but what you can afford. Amazon has great deals and usually good dupes. I don’t understand going into national debt just to say I have a Chanel bag or whatever. It really isn’t worth it or necessary. Sometimes I just wonder who are these girls trying to impress. Success is using smart business practices not blowing all your money and resources on clothing and products. I stopped following fake influencers who would do clothing hauls, pretend to like the clothes, and then sell them five minutes later. The lies were such a turnoff. Your observations about influencers are insightful and valuable. There have always been people who influenced others in some way, those people who reached a level of fame, or infamy, that others admired and wanted to emulate. Having influence over others is a responsibility that is often lacking. Too often the people who follow influencers and want to be like them are the most vulnerable among us, those who feel inadequate and see what they think they want to be, what will bring them happiness. You care about your followers and remind us to be responsible consumers. Your audience is probably more mature and confident. The influencers who have reached the highest levels are vapid, silly, and have no sense of responsibility to their followers, at least the few I have seen. You keep doing what you do best, you have a loyal band of followers, and enjoy that Shiraz with out apologies!

I so totally agree with you. The thing that irks me the most is the sense of luxury that is pushed towards consumers. Don’t get me wrong, we can all aspire to higher heights but a lot of the stuff that is promoted is not attainable to or achievable by the average consumers who follow these influencers.

One other thing you kinda touched on but a little different is jobs. There’s a lot of content on quitting the 9-5. Trust me when I can do it I will but some of these influencers make it look so glam, people out here quitting without a plan. Trust and believe these influencers have a plan and have already tested it.
