When discussing housing affordability we also need to talk about Singapore's household income growth and infrastructure development. 30 to 40 years ago, a household income of S$3,000 per month is considered as well above-average salary, today starting salary of fresh grads is already $3.5k. So it's impossible to expect that with the rise in income, and all the world-class infrastructure development, the cost of land, housing, construction, material etc is still the same. As we know, HDB land is actually part of Singapore reserves, to suggest that Singapore land should be offered for free to build HDB, will mean raiding our our Singapore reserves to make Singapore vulnerable, which will in fact wipe off trillions of value in our reserves. Would the Norwegian government raid their oil reserves by saying oil in the ground should be given to people for free? As I said before Jamus Lim is a lightweight populist politician, who lacks depth and understanding of why things are done in a certain way to protect the long-term interest of the country.

To make himself look more credible, Jamus purposely choose to make this video in a prime district old HDB estate to make his argument more appealing. What he should be doing should be telling young couples to buy BTO flat to enjoy government subsidies instead of buying resale HDB flats in prime districts. Jamus you are still young and have plenty to learn about the bolts and nuts of Singapore system. Best is to study them instead of offering fanciful ideas to cripple the country by offering Singaporeans the unattainable hope that housing in Singapore can be bought for free and no one need to pay taxes to enjoy high living standards.

Since the above commenters are talking abt Jamus Lim instead of abt HDB flats, I will like to add my own personal opinion abt him. I first heard his name through Straits Times reporting the news of the "cockles of heart" incident. It was a bad first impression. My first reaction to myself: is this guy for real? He is acting much like those politican casted in US dramas. All sweet talk to gain votes. However when he got voted as MP, I told myself that you should give him another chance. He is afterall from WP and I do admire LTK. Then came the part when he questioned Josephine Yeo abt some foreign labor issues in Parliament. Boy, that is an eye opener. For a 50 years old auntie with not very good command in English, I could clearly tell that the then Minister of Manpower is wayanging, avoiding his questions and going round the bush. Sure, Josephine passed me off. But I do get it that some answers may do more harm. But as an opposition party member, shouldn't you had probe more for a direct answer instead of walking away? It seemed to me that he asked the questions only cos he is from WP, not because he is genuine in helping the Singapore labor or an interest in the labor issues. This impression got further enhanced by the recent "fucking popularity" issue. How uninterested is this guy at work to not hear the comment made to walk back to his seat? I mean, how would any person react if your colleagues speak negatively abt you in front of you and Your Bosses?

Jamus Lim is poser lah. When he proposes to abolish PSLE and offer a through train education system, I immediately look at his educational background. Primary school Catholic High, Secondary Raffles Institution, JC Raffles JC. All elite schools. If there is no PSLE, no exam can he get into RI and RJC? by lucky draw? Foreign labor, education, GST, HDB flat etc are opposition bread and butter topic and there is nothing new here. Everyone is just trying to reinvent the wheel. When government clamp down on foreign labour, the first casualty are the hawkers and thats why many famous hawkers decide to close shop. did WP help them to recruit Singaporeans as hawker assistants? If not why not? Because they dont have a solution. And when labor cost spike, a consumer has to pay more. they blame GST. The Modus operandi for oppies is give more collect less. When Covid19 hit, opposition keep quiet and never dare ask how are we going to pay for it.

Please don't reinvent the wheel la WP. There are so many other issues to talk about. HDB is about as good a policy as it can get. Don't mess it up. Most Singaporean who complain about HDB don't have them. There are so many affordable 3 room HDB at sub $300k with grants in places like Marsiling and Kanji but no takers. These people cry that HDB is affordable but want prime location HDB. And are jelous others can have it and they can't so they feel the need to drag others down with them. The current model enables those lucky few fellow Singaporeans to profit and eventually upgrade to condo. I say good for them. Stop complaining. Life is not fair. Work harder

Young couples cannot afford living in Singapore. Better to immigrate to other countries where one can afford big car and house. Furthermore, the house and land is yours and no such thing as leasehold which is ridiculous. Young couples needing to wait for about 5 years for BTO is not acceptable. The waiting time should be about 1, 2 years. The government wants more babies and yet the waiting time is so long and expensive. Pretty hypocrite.

my sister hdb in sengkang flat so rundown and condition is so bad, dirty, poorly maintained and no fresh paint. Complained so much and nothing has been done. Whereas across is PAP territory their facilities are way better and well maintained. What you guys doing workers party??
