This unlocked an ancient memory of Mtn Dew: Pitch Black, a grape-flavored dew. The original wasn’t great but then they made a sequel (cleverly named Pitch Black II) that was a sour grape flavor and it was the single worst soda anyone in my family had ever tried, and my dad willingly bought a bottle of the Turkey and Gravy Jones soda.

You take that back. Pitch black II was the best flavor of dew I’ve ever had. I love a good grape flavor, and the fact that it was sour rather than sickeningly sweet… 👌When they had the Baja v Pitch Black battle in 2015 or 16, I rallied hard for pitch black to win. And it did! AND THEY LIED AND IT DIDN’T STAY PERMANENTLY. You can only find it in the marvelous fountain drink machines at Maverick gas stations now. What a shame.

So true, the first offshoots they did were great. Code Red, Live Wire, and the original Gamer Fuel are as good if not better than the original. Newer ones I find to be not as good, I do like Voltage and Blackout though.
