@@bibsbeezASMR I've seen it done like that or even put into the food processor to get the consistency. If you do a search online or even here on youtube I'm sure you will find many recipes/methods/videos ..enjoy. If you live close to any african restaurants, you can easily buy it there. Some refer to it as swallow, because basically after dipping into the stew or soup you just swallow it. I personally never made it, but in the state I live there are many people from various african countries as well as restaurants. Years ago I had some fellow coworkers that i was able to see them preparing it.

The way you compared the concept of Roti to fufu made my heart smile so big. Yes exactly! In Africa we have many things we call 'Swallows' Swallows are a starch we use to eat with our soups or stews or sauces, just as someone from Pakistan might use Roti as a starch to go with stews or curry. There are many different Swallows. Fufu is just one of the many. And you don't eat fufu by itself because it honestly doesn't rlly taste like anything. It's just something you use to eat with the sauce!!!! you explained it perfectly 💗💗💗💗. ive seen many ppl trying African food and just eating the entire fufu and then eating the sauce and it makes me cringe so hard haha. you just take a tiny piece of fufu and scoop a whole bunch of sauce instead.

The starch is called poundo. It's an easy to make version of pounded yam, which is made by mercilessly pounding boiled yam with pestle and mortar, and it's much nicer and more fluffy and fibrousy than chewy. The stew is called egusi and is cooked many different ways. My favourite version is a bit more dry and chewy than this, and tastes peanuty. Awesome vid.

That soup he had in the video is called Egusi. In Nigeria, we call these kinds of foods swallow. That's because they aren't meant to be chewed. You're meant to swallow it right after putting in in your mouth. Some people here still chew theirs though, but fufu tastes bland so chewing it doesn't make sense. You use your tongue to separate some of the rough vegetables from the fufu while it's in your mouth and then swallow the rest instantly along with the fufu.

I tried roti, butter chicken and some tamarind spicy dip to dip the roti in a famous restaurant near me and it all tasted really good(It blended together but roti is kinda bland and the dip carried, a dinner bun would be better), but fufu and the soup that came with it was just miles better(really absorbed, and I could taste the yam and it really blew my mind). When you have no bias its kinda obvious, I would bet a buck you haven't tried fufu. 😂
