You missed the most important part of eating a Tunnock's Tea cake! You have to scrunch up the foil into a little ball and ping it across the room for your cat to chase! _(Cat sold seperately)_

Okay, you seriously need to seek out your local and nearest 'Aldi' supermarket. For two reasons: Firstly, your mind will be blown by the randomness of the produce isles (It's the only place I know where you could find a wet suit and a mutli-pack of yogurt...on the same shelf next to each other!) Secondly: as you're a fan of Salt & Vinegar - then you NEED to try Aldi's own 'Sea Salt and Lime Tortilla Chips'. Trust me, your taste buds (if they survive the citric/sodium assault) will eventually thank you.

I can't remember if you've done either of these but if not, "frazzles" and "space raiders" are two pretty classic british crisps/chips you should try. Space raiders are harder to find these days but they're still in most corner stores and I would think somewhere like poundland would have em. Few others you could try are "skips", "hula hoops" or "nik naks" but id say they are less interessting.

Forget the toffee crisp you need to try a boost! Snack wise you should give hobnobs a try. They’re a biscuit! You can also get the milk chocolate ones too. Mr Kipling Lemon slices or Mr Kipling Cherry Bakewell. Very British snacks...try both! Werthers originals are a little toffee hard sweet. Everyone in Britain grew up having these at their grandparents or on long car journeys, along with Fox’s glacier mints. Also for a kid of the 90s a meal of potato smiles, spaghetti hoops and Bernard Matthews turkey dinosaurs was at least a 2x weekly meal 😂 x

I grew up a couple of miles from the factory where Toffee Crisps were made. My neighbour worked there and used to bring home bags of rejects, which were 20 for a pound. I grew up eating them but haven't had one in years. She also used to bring home reject Quality Street, another British staple, you should try them. If you want to find Dandelion and Burdock, you need to travel north. Ben Shaw's of Huddersfield used to deliver it to the doorstep every Friday night. The man who brought it was commonly known as the pop man.

Dandelion and Burrdock is found in any big supermarket. Usually you can find this with all the other fizzy drinks and named Tesco/Asda Dandelion and Burrdock. It is a dark liquid similar to coke in colour. I love the taste. Dandelion and burrock tea is lovely if you like a less sweet drink hot or cold. Just leave the tea bag for 10 minutes or until the cup is empty as more flavour comes out the longer it is seeped.

Dandelion & Burdock and other slightly traditional soft drinks like Ginger Beer are normally easily available in the ASDA and Tesco own brand ranges for ~50p a 2 litre bottle. However, there is apparently a massive CO2 (Carbon Dioxide drinks fizz) shortage in the UK at the moment so that explains why this crack is hard to get hold of just now.

The last place I saw Dandelion and Burdock was at Kew Gardens in London. It was a while ago so I'm not sure if its still there but its definitely worth a visit. Can be a bit pricey though.

We have Viva Puffs in Ontario but the difference between them and the teacakes is there is Rasberry jam between the layer of the cookie and the marshmallow. They are so good!!!!

What made the Smiths crisps so popular was that the ready salted flavour came with the salt in a little blue sachet. They disappeared from shop shelves in the early 90's. I haven't seem them since I was a kid. I think they're still around only there's no salt sachet now. The salt is put onto the crisps during the manufacturing process like other crisps. What you mentioned about the lack of crisps in a packet started around 15 years ago. Everything is smaller now. When I was younger, a Mars bar was like a brick. The Kingsize Mars bar was exactly the same as the regular Mars bar only longer. Today, it's a different bar. The Cadbury Cream Egg is allot smaller now.

Dandelion and burdock drink is only available in the health food stores like Holland and Barrett shops because it’s an ancient recipe from the 1880s .

It's hilarious because you have the new recipe! Just a few months ago (before the sugar tax) it had no sweeteners but double the sugar... it tasted so much better. I'm half Scottish and my family love the stuff. In Scotland it's the national drink... more popular than coca cola

You should try some Dandelion and Burdock, but if you can get Fentimans, it's one of the better quality brands. You can find it at Waitrose for sure, as well as lots of other shops, it's not to hard to find. Hooper's do an alcoholic version, it's lovely over ice. Some say it's the English root beer, as traditionally it's made from roasted dandelion and burdock roots. You can make your own, if you can find some wild growing burdock plants, dandelions easy to find. Make sure you clean the roots, I find for best the result, pan roast in a cast iron skillet. When you've got a nice brown colour, add boiling water and sugar. Return the water to the boil and boil for about 2 minutes. Leave to cool and place in the refrigerator. Use a tea strainer or the like when decanting into your glass. But buying it in the supermarket it's so much easier, and it's fizzy.

Top tip, if you do come to Scotland, absolutely do not slag Irn Bru off. Scotland is one of the few countries where Coca Cola isn't the number 1 selling soft drink, in Scotland it's Irn Bru. Yes a cold can is refreshing, we still get it in glass bottles in Scotland which is a must for a hangover. As for the Mackie's crisps, yeah they're not great. They're actually known for their ice cream which is pretty nice. Tunnock's caramel is what you want, not the tea cakes.

Also Dandilion and Burdock seems to have disappeared from supermarket shelves as a budget soft drink. You can get really expensive, little bottles from the upmarket companies like Fentimens - should be able to find it at most supermarkets but need to look where the expensive gucci soft drinks are - and expect to pay about £3 for a 750ml bottle.

The marshmallow-in-chocolate cake is known in many countries under a variety of names but the inventor would be Tunnocks (which proves once more that most British inventions are actually Scottish). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chocolate-coated_marshmallow_treats

I love those tea cakes for 1 reason only! Made in 1980 and since then they have not changed a single thing about them! All these other companies constantly innovating, changing their look to be more sleek and sexy and minimalist but not the humble Tunnock's Tea cake, it marches on unchanging, unflinching and retro as all hell! God bless 'em!

The best Salt n Vinegar flavour is from Burton's "Fish n Chips". I get them from Home Bargains if you have one locally. "Originally from the 80's, they're a tasty fish and chip shaped snack with an eye watering flavour hit of salt and vinegar." From their website.

Get yourself a pack of snowballs. Marshmallow coated in chocolate and coconut, you have to put the whole thing in your gob in one go(unwritten rule) or a pack of jam mallows,Delicious. A cadbury's mini roll on hot buttered toast(fold the toast in half around the miniroll) never disappoints either.

Surprised you can't find dandelion & burdock in the bigger shops and supermarkets, it's quite common where I live. Some corner shops sell it in a can, it's called D&B I think. Pretty sure Sainsbury's do it too.
