Museum curator Rob Doane gives us a guided tour of the US Naval War College Museum. The video is broken down in to the sections covering the various rooms which you can quickly jump between using the timestamps provided.
In this tour of the naval museum, you can expect to learn much about US Navy history and the US Naval War College. They have a number of miniature US Navy ships from the 18th century to the US Civil War and right up to World War 2. Included in the tour are also some various displays about naval technology like torpedoes as well as an overview of the training and curriculum of the war college. The most exciting for me are the naval wargaming miniature displays on the 2nd floor. Hope you enjoy the history tour.

Holy Hannah, an entire hour? This will definitely satisfy my fix for your content. Besides the Greek time period, naval history of anytime period is my next favorite :-)

Was there any stuff in the World Wars section about battleship (lack of) usefulness in WWII? It's probably the one thing that every single major power got wrong in WWII.

I don't think they stated that explicitly. There was a lot of content surrounding submarines and convoys as a big part of the war effort

@@InvictaHistory submarines were a big part of both theatres (with the Allies using submarines effectively in the Pacific while having to defend against German submarines in the Atlantic).

At present, we don't have a gallery that focuses specifically on WWII. We are planning to do one next September around the anniversary of the surrender. We will definitely address the roles of battleships and aircraft carriers, as well as how the U.S. Navy experimented with those ship types both prior to and during the war.

@@robdoane9239 Thanks.. If I may make a suggestion, it would be wise to point out in the gallery that the then-newly built, WWII-era battleships in general didn't justify their expense (even those that saw service as escorts or shore bombardment weren't designed for or cost-effective at these roles). There is a lot of justified criticism for the Axis navies in that they kept making battleships after they were rendered obsolete, but the Allies, and especially the USN, seem to get far less criticism for doing the exact same thing. The Axis did a lot of things wrong that the Allies did right, but this isn't one of them.

Well obsolescence of battleships weren't exactly obvious until arguably Midway and Guadalcanal. There's plenty of people that played with the idea and tested them all around the world during the interwar years. Issue is there was always reasons you can find in their arguments and tests to dismiss it. Like Billy Mitchell's tests which could be countered by the fact those ships had no damage control crews. You can also dismiss Taranto and Pearl Harbor as a surprise attack against anchored ships. The first real signs of their obsolescence wouldn't be until the Sinking of Prince of Wales and Repulse. It only became definitively obvious during the height of the war itself which by then many battleships were already too advanced in to construction to just cancel. Most battleships planned or proposed were otherwise canceled. Yamatos were almost completed by the start of the war. Bismarck and Scharnhorst class were likewise already built or almost completed. H-class were pre-war plan. The South Dakota and Iowas which were likewise fairly advanced into construction. And after Pearl Harbor it seemed the US needed battleship replacements. That's why half way through the war, pretty much all battleship projects were either scaled back or outright cancelled and conversions were suggested. It seems kind of late, but its just how it is. No one knew that battleships were that inferior. People tends to lean towards traditional methods and tend to overplay any faults to dismiss the new stuff.
