To answer a couple of your questions and critiques: 1. First of all, the Vow of SIlence would 100% work on both the Dragonborn's Shouts and Spells. Shouts are specifically referred to as magic, even going so far as to appear in the "Magic" section of your abilities, and the Vow of Silence is specifically stated to prevent all magic in its area. Not just verbal magic, not just spells, magic in general. Everything being muffled was just a neat visual effect that plays into the miracle's name. 2. They were 100% not trying to BS their way with the whole "Undead vs Undying" thing. You mention that they call humans in Dark Souls immortal, and therefore undead, but what they really said was: "Humans are naturally undying, or *according to the Gods' propaganda,* Undead." In other words, the title of "Undead" is a canon misapprehension deliberately given by the Gods for the sake of prolonging the Age of Light.

Vow of silence would not work on dragon shouts, it is separated from other magics as it is just a very advanced form of reality warping with your voice and thoughts accompanying it. The shout would still take effect.

In case your still confused about the ending of the fight, the Chosen Undead linked the First Flame, which summoned the fire tornado. The Dragonborn then used the Fus Roh Dah to extinguish it,so the Chosen Undead didn't have a bonfire to resurrect at, so he died permanently, and the entire world was cast into darkness. At least I think that's what happened. Also, I absolutely love this episode and will be kind of surprised if they manage to top it this season.

So like i hate to be that guy, but if the choosen undead lights the fire it isnt just a tornado of fire, its essentially a second big bang that resets the land to begin again Dovakiin shouting out the fire is giving him god-tier above ALL of the souls series. Personally i think its an even match without the choosen undead's ability to keep getting up.

The point they were making about Dark Souls undeath is that humans are naturally immortal and the Gods propaganda spun that around to label them as undead. Hense, "not actually undead" in the conclusion. Chosen Undead is just an ordinary human by Dark Souls standards.

It kinda makes sense, given the philosophy of both games; Dark Souls and Skyrim are both about clawing your way up from level 1 weakness to badassitude but Dark Souls wants the player to still be the underdog right to the end while Skyrim ends on a power fantasy. Not criticising either, it's just different styles, but it does naturally give the Dragonborn a big advantage.

Yeah, no Death Battle title has done this since Pokemon vs Digimon (which specifically featured Red and Charizard vs Tai and Agumon). As for the whole undead thing, the truth of Dark Souls's in-universe conspiracy is that the humans aren't really "undead", just undying. So the title "Chosen Undead" is intentionally misleading.

@@Handlerhandle most enemies are level scaling so they will be a challenge especially if you crank up the difficulty and play casually. There’s a couple of bosses with a minimum level of 24 so unless you cheese these encounters you will struggle.

Regarding the titling of the episode, in their podcast just before this episode came out they admitted they titled it after the games and not the characters is because of search engine optimization. dodging light isn't movement speed either, both feats are reaction speed. I wouldn't call Humanity being naturally immortal and never actually dead or undead a semantics issue, the analysis presented it as the most significant thing in the plot next to linking the First Flame

Dodging something is literally moving out of the way of something. Let's take spider-man he has the reaction speed to notice something but he needs his movement speed to actually avoid said thing. Having shooting a arrow be movement speed is tricky but someone could say you need to move that fast to fire a arrow that fast although we have no real life way to figure that out since real world bows have a limit of how much draw weight they can handle.

While Dovahkiin's official translation is of course dragonborn, other unofficial translations of it have it as something like "born hunter of dragon kind". Just a fun fact. I saw a cool comment on another video that I'll copy here if i can find it. "Qverlord 1 day ago this fight had so many clever moments. my favorite is the dragonborn realizing the vow of silence is over when the chosen undead can make sound and he used that moment of pride as an opening to turn it against the chosen undead. the chosen undead linking the first flame is also clever and flavorful to the lore. Remember that when Gwyn linked the first flame he incinerated the black knights that followed him. the Chosen Undead was attempting to do that again here by trying to nuke the dragonborn as a last resort. and the dragonborn respond was perfect. The dragon shout is a reality bending power, when two dragons fight one another, they are debating on who is correct. To dragon, power is truth, those who are stronger are right and therefore their truth becomes reality in a literal sense. The dragonborn using unrelenting force is him enforcing his will upon reality, he's defying the reality of the flame hurting him. Since the dragonborn defeated Alduin, an entity on par if not greater than the first flame, his will is stronger than the flame and he snuffed it out." And my response to it was "Dragonborn really said no you to the first flame and won" Also Fireborn absolutely slaps. Great song by Brandon As for the arrow, basically you fire a cursed arrow at the sun that interferes with the magic being released from a tear in reality. It's prophesized to be able to do it forever but in gameplay it's a limited effect and it's explained in lore as you're supposed to sacrifice someone and use their blood to curse the arrow but instead you just use the blood of a living person who gives it voluntarily

The whole undead thing was explained during the Joslin segment. Short version: The gods in power in dark souls lied to the humans, and told them they were undead as a curse. That's why they link the fire, to try and remove it, but it's not real. They aren't undead, they are undying/immortal.

Sometimes, in Death Battle, I feel they give the loser every possible option, just to make sure they covered all their bases. Along the lines of "even if it worked, it wouldn't be enough" kind of thing. Or, another way to look at it, the C.U. uses Vow of Silence and the Dragonborn just chugs an invisibility potion and waits it out. Anyone who's played Skyrim has had like 10 of those in their backpack.

That was quite the episode! I didn't expect too much from it, considering how much of a meme Skyrim has become (and I wasn't really invested in these chars), they seemed to have put a lot of work into it. And while some parts can be a little bit confusing, this time it can actually add to the supernatural surreality of both of the characters. Something like Sauron vs Lich King (which had a somewhat similar atmosphere going for, ignoring the villain aspect) is falling far behind this episode. Kinda surprised they didn't open the season with it.

Misaka is from a series called "Toaru" as all of the subseries have it in their Japanese names, she is the main character in "A Certain Scientific Railgun" and is the titular 'Railgun' as she is an Esper with Electro-Kinesis, and the third(if memory serves) strongest Esper in the series.

Third rank doesn't mean she's the third strongest Esper in the series. It's been revealed in the WWIII Arc of the OT Light Novels that the ranking system for the seven Level 5s doesn't determine who is the strongest Esper. This is called the Parameter List, as it decides on which Esper gets to be among the top seven Level 5s as a part of Aleister's plan in eradicating the Magic Gods he despised his entire life. Misaka is one of his backup plans should his number one priority Accelerator end up a failure to that plan. And if all seven Level 5s are deemed a failure, he can always replace them with a new batch. This was even hinted in the recent Mental Out manga chapters when a piece of Shadow Metal, claiming to be a disembodied voice of Accelerator's predecessor as the 1st Ranked Level 5, spoke to Misaki and wanted to form an alliance with her to help him get revenge on Aleister. Of course, that never happened in the future. And even if Misaki had joined, they would've obviously failed since Aleister is always three moves ahead of everyone in Academy City.

According to the game lore, they're not technically magic, but as far as the game engine is concerned - they're just spells,fired through the face of the character model instead of the hands. For example, "Ward" is a spell which is supposed to protect the character against magical damage and spells, but it also blocks shouts. Or it might just be a case of "It just works. - Todd Howard"

It is a 100% an error on their end since they had released Chosen Undead's preview first and even when the episode got announced after Ant-Man VS Atom, it was called Dark Souls VS Skyrim (Chosen Undead VS Dragonborn) so why they switched the title of the episode in which the thumbnail did not change at all, is beyond me but aside from that error which could easily be fixed, it was a good episode. Next time with Killua and Misaka Mikoto from A Certain Magical Index, I knew Killua was going to appear on the show at some point but I was expecting him to fight a certain black haired assassin with a sword that can kill ya in one hit just by the poisonous curse, *Cough* Akame from Akame Ga Kill *Cough* but yeah, I would have to find someone else for her now. But anyway, Misaka is no slouch when it comes to her electric attacks and there's a reason why she's nicknamed the "Railgun" in not just A Certain Magical Index but also when she's the main protagonist of A Certain Scientific Railgun.

In terms of animation style, it's representing the games. Skyrim is really really stiff, so they actually nailed Skyrim perfectly. Not a lot of animation coming from early dark souls either. Unable to jump, burdened by weight, rolling limited to certain directions and roll speed. So honestly, the animation matches both games really well.

Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring are FAR more approachable for those who are "not good at dark souls" if you want to try more. You wont miss important lore skipping titles, its not like cinematic sequels in that sense.

I think a soundtrack could make or break something, but for whatever reason (I like to think it's my brain's way of becoming immersed) I just don't often notice the music. Regarding next DB: the theme is super humans with electric themed powers, who are very popular in comparison to the main cast, and are very intelligent. Killua is another main character in Hunter X Hunter and Misaka Mikoto is a main character in A Certain Magical Index and protagonist of A Certain Scientific Railgun. To give more context on Misaka, she’s from a world that has a civil war between two factions (Magic vs Science) and the main character (not Misaka) is put in the middle of it because of the titular character, Index, who is an English nun (who’s basically a map of the church’s forbidden magical books) that both factions want to gain the upper hand against the other faction. While it seems like it, neither character really use Electricity in the normal way. Nen is inspired by Hamon from JoJo and Killua’s electricity themed, while Misaka uses electrons, rather than electricity/lightning (this makes her closer to comic Magneto in versatility.) Killua uses his Nen to buff himself and his martial arts, while Misaka can use a microwave shield, form iron sand constructs, manipulate oxygen with electricity, summon storms, buff her physical attributes by emulating another’s ability (Rampage Dress), and etc. Misaka’s well known for her Railgun attack, which uses Lorentz Force as she fires arcade coins as projectiles. Unlike Magic side, Espers like Misaka have to be smart and master their power, usually through knowledge of quantum physics (like someone who has Teleportation as their power, has to mentally calculate everything to position themselves accordingly, especially if others are to be teleported with her.) There are still conflicts between people in the same faction, like Misaka and the rank below her fought a few times (Meltdowner’s user uses particles to fire lasers) and Misaka dodges/defeats her consistently.

Shouts in Skyrim ARE spells, they are a unique type of magic called Tonal Magic. Also Vow of Silence wouldn’t work regardless because the natures of the shouts manipulate universal concepts and truths when spoken, which is far above anything Vow of Silence is seen to effect.

I always thought "Tonal magic" was sort of a misnomer. The Thu'um seems more related to the real world fields of cymatics and harmonics, which is the way sound interacts with the world.

I feel like that kind of misses the point of Silence and other similar nullifying abilities. Power shouldn't have anything to do with their range. Think about it like this: say you have a fire hydrant that is pumping an infinite amount of water, and the only way of stopping it is by turning it off. Does the amount of water have anything to do with someone's ability to just disconnect a hose or turn a wheel? Another example is Eraserhead from MHA. His quirk works on everyone who has a quirk, regardless of how powerful they are. Power is just irrelevant. All Might and All for One would be just as susceptible to being erased as any other quirk user.

The Aizawa argument, though, does kind of bring us to the original question of whether Silence would work considering Aizawa can't stop every kind of Quirk (i.e., mutations). Incredibly powerful and versatile, but it does have its limits, so it's reasonable that Shouts could fall into that same sort of thing. Not saying they do--I'm cool to accept them as magic or not--but I could see it.

@@Ris_Grestar Erasure not working on Mutations is an inherent weakness due to the way quirks fundamentally work, in theory, Erasure can disable any quirk regardless of how strong it is. From One For All to Minor Attraction, all is disabled. Vow Of Silence could be argued to be similar as it simply disables magic within a radius, in the games it hasn't failed against any particular spell. So why should the shout be the exemption, sure the shouts outscale everything in Dark Souls but cancellation abilities don't tend to care how powerful it is. In theory, even Asta could get rid of shout since his Anti-Magic literally cuts the cause and effect from magic.

"It's just semantics stuff" no, it's not semantics. The Chosen Undead is not a reanimated corpse, they're just naturally immortal. Dragons are naturally immortal and even can be revived back into their dead bodies in Skyrim, and yet anti-undead measures don't work on them.

For the arrow point, while there a difference between attack speed (the arrow) and combat speed (the dragonborn), in this case theres no difference as the dragonborn can scale. Characters like Alduin can react to and dodge dragonborn's 250x ftl/infinite speed arrows, and since the dragonborn can hit those characters who can dodge his arrows, he should be able to fight at those speeds. As for the character stiffness, to be completely honest i think this is a fault of the models. These characters come from clunky 360 games. Its unfortunate, but it is what it is imo

Who would want to be the Chosen Undead? His life is trial after trial, defeat after defeat, sacrifice after sacrifice and being a pawn of greater beings. You won’t ever receive a happy ending and all your efforts at best stave off the dying of the world for just a bit longer. Don’t know much about Skyrim and the Dragonborn, but in comparison he’s a power fantasy character who the world seemingly revolves around since he’s yet another chosen one character. Kinda seems like a no brainer.

The reason the called it Skyrim vs Dark Souls ia cause people are more likely to remember the characters by thier franchise rather than their names and hence benefit their algorithm ato get mwore views. However I agree that the order is kind of dumb, like if they want to vall the episode by its franchise thats fine, they already did something like that with Pokemon vs Digimon, but why switch the order of the title.

My take on this fight was it wasnt fair at all from the get go. The dragonborn in lore is basically the most powerful thing in the lore, just being below the godhead and the 2 primordial forces. Alduin was gonna eat EVERYTHING all the gods, daedric princes and every realm inside the kalpa, which included multiple levels of infinity, and you beat his ass in a realm where he was at his peak and could cover that INFINITE realm in his mist in seconds. Chosen undead stood no chance

Here is a thing, I dislike about this battle is they are scaling the dragonborn to alduin but to beat Alduin you have to use Dragonrend which inflicts mortality upon dragons. It has no effect on non-dragons. So scaling him to Alduin feels like scaling an engineer to a nuclear bomb just because the engineer used an emp to prevent the bomb from going off.

@@Ris_Grestar At least based on what the wiki says it does weaken alduin. in addition to making him mortal. The words for it mean Mortal, Finite and Temporary. So perhaps the word Finite reduces his infinite power into a finite amount. I would say it is still kind of sketch but that is just me.

this one I disagree, the premise and victory conditions are correct. the chosen undead has to be killed till it can`t revive anymore but death battle has heavily underestimated the masochistic nature of those games and confused power for invulnerability. the dark soul is a game series where players would fight a boss nonstop for 3 hours regardless of how many times they die. On the other hand, Skyrim is a game where regardless of what class you build or how you want to play you will ALWAYS end as a stealth archer because you are vulnerable and need to lower your enemy's numbers. against a relentless undead soldier, you will run out of potion, your mana will not keep up and you will die.

Even if you removed all the lore and relied solely on game stats, I'm not sure it would have changed anything. Weapons in Skyrim scale better than weapons in Dark Souls, Skyrim enchantments can get both crazy good and just crazy, and the Dragonborn can carry literally hundreds of FULL heal/mana potions -- something the Chosen Undead, by the game's very nature, is never allowed to do. And we haven't even discussed poisons, Marked for Death, or stealth. Also, the Chosen Undead dies and comes back -- wouldn't the Dragonborn win almost immediately, then the CU come back and they'd shake hands and compare notes? "You've killed a city-sized dragon? So have I! Let's talk about them over one hundred fifty cheeses."

@@KEEPTALKIN8215 Sasuke definitely wins, but I wouldn’t call it a massive stomp (especially when compared to most Death Battle episodes). There are a lot of people who think Killua wins too, so it’d be good to prove them wrong and get some major salt. Zenitsu is closer to Killua’s level, but also a poor choice to use given we already saw Tanjiro last season, who can do a lot more. Also, he has less in common with Killua than Sasuke, and is is just annoying in general.

An announced sponsorship is something different to a random ad. Keep in mind the two criticisms Ris has brought up: 1. The ads popped up at not the best places, even cutting into sentences. On the other hand: Ris's sponsorship is placed at the beginning, not just announced, but offering the option to easily skip it via time stamps. 2. Ris uses "First membership", a paid service that allowed him to download the video. Services that are "free to engage" should drop their ads if the customer actually decides to pay for it. 2.5. Even if RoosterTeeth sees it as fair to still put ads into this video, exclusivably downloadable for members, it only makes it worse that they didn't put the effort in to put them at less disrupting spots. Not sure if you were serious or just jealous, but maybe you'll think about these reasons a little bit more instead of trying to make fun of someone, who seems to put way much more effort into his reaction videos compared to most others, who use clickbaity titles and throw funny faces onto the thumbnail.

I think the reason they say the game first and then the character is because there are multiple Dark Souls games where the Chosen Undead is only in Dark Souls 1. Skyrim is the 5th game of the Elder Scrolls games and the Dragonborn is only in Skyrim.

Yes shouts are not magic, they arent spells so unless the chosen undead can ONLY silence verbal magic, that wouldnt work with a shout because it's not magic, now if all it does is silence then yeah it would work cause the dragonborn needs to speak in order to do a shout, but yeah also they said they would put their max stats and the dragonborn has a lot of stuff, like the power to slow down the opponent when they are attacking and he blocks, he slows them down whenever he blocks and they didnt add that, if this was an actual fight with actual all stats the dragonborn would win without any difficulty unlike this fight because in the lore he doesnt have cooldown in his shouts he could just spam them continously 😂
