I think the horror in Vita Carnis works because, rather than withholding information from the viewers, it GIVES us information on the creatures. We're told how they live, how they hunt, what you do if you're in a hazardous situation between the creatures.

It can afford to reveal quite a bit about the creatures because as interesting and diverse as they all are, they seem largely incidental when taking in the grander scope of the narrative

Fun Fact! when you see a drawing of a dragon with scales like that on its belly and neck that would be considered anatomically INCORRECT! because they don't slither (at least not the dragons with four legs that walk around). Phil i think your theory is 100% correct. in the stream i cross referenced the location of the fake island and the location of the Chicxulub impact crator (which is the impact that killed the dinosaurs) this can explain both the storm and the long healing times described within the story book as the "prince" crash landed on earth with the meteor 65 million years ago. also at one point in the stream someone mentioned n@zi ww2 mass killings. im pretty sure he was saying that that was a reason for the meat snakes massive size. this adds up with the "cult activity" stated as its known the n@zis did commit cult like practises and believed in the occult. btw you should check out midwest angelica i think you would enjoy it as its like a mix of vita carnis and gemini home entertainment. i loved the stream.

Alright so two things Phil: First of all, the Vita Carnis might not be extraterrestrial, since the first documentary tried to outright steer you away from it and religious themes, but as some people in the chat were saying, your Prince theory can still make sense if instead its somekind of an extradimensional/eldritch situation. Second, I know I suggested it a couple live streams ago, but Midwest Angelica is a very good and unique analog horror series that you'd probably enjoy. It’s quite reminiscent of Gemini Home Entertainment but with heavy inspiration from *Evangelion* of all things, with some other things thrown in like The Thing and Blade Runner.
@mattuwu99784 ай бұрын
Well, the first video of the series said the _Crawl_ (and all the subsequent beasties spawning from it) are of Earth - and that’s still completely true under the extraterrestrial theory. The Prince used his “magic” while _on our planet,_ creating multiple species of creatures with the material that was fed to him by humans (meat from Earth animals). None of the videos explicitly state that the Prince himself is native to Earth - just the Vita Carnis.

A solid theory about the Harvester migration ties back to what you called them - biological minefields. If the Monoliths can disrupt electronics via EMP, that negates an air assault. And if you try to infiltrate the area by land... a nigh impenetrable forest of Harvesters are in place to kill anyone approaching on foot. The only way I could see someone approaching the island is by HALO jump. Can't disable a parachute with an EMP, can't kill something in the sky with a Harvester. Only issue is, the island is STILL crawling with Harvesters, so you gotta be super fucking careful about where you land. There's the Tremors rule of "stay on the rocks, don't go on the ground," but what happens if you either strategically drop obstacles to form a path, or locate and terminate the Islandbound Harvesters?

In regards to the stuff regarding the harvester attacking a hiking family, I think the reason behind the authorities not dealing with the harvester is the same reason why the exec didn't want Johny turbo launching a direct attack on Syn in Turbo Overkill: the value of the meat-based god-creature outweighs any and all risks that the god-creature presents. (And yes, you can draw parallels between vita carnis and syn as well, btw Turbo Overkill plug you should play it Phil it's amazing)

And then after you start realizing the ramifications of these seemingly innocent edutainment segments, it starts slowly confirming and doubling down on those. Also, sidebar... I mentioned this under Azzy's thumbnail upload, but there's a lotta stuff in the Snake Emblems that you missed when talking about RE6. And uh. You 100% aren't going to see this but if you love the "guide to animals of another, slightly terrifying, world", I would really recommend things like the Tales of Kaimere project and Dragonslayer Codex, both on youtube. The latter even has a dragon called the Kinslayer that does the same thing the Harvester does, in that it acts as a "guardian" to smaller animals, specializing in targeting other dragons, making areas they have claimed as territory relatively safe for humans... as long as they don't antagonize their "protector".

4:01:01 In my opinion, at first, I disliked the flavor enhancer commercial for the high pitched audio, but after a while it sorta grew on me after I realized what it was trying to do. There are real studies trying to learn how audio affects the mind. That's why you sometimes see the bad guy in some action movies using high-pitched sound to condition or even hypnotize someone. So either it could be that the commercials work with the flavor enhancer by having some kind of hidden subliminal audio conditioning. OR it could be that Darian just added the high-pitched sound part as a metaphor to help some more-confused viewers understand what the enhancer is doing: numbing the minds of those that consume it and molding them for the purposes of this secret organization.

I think you are dead on about where the Carnis has come from and what they are aiming to accomplish, but I have a gut hunch about a second level of twist being involved, so spoilers to anyone who hasn’t seen the whole VOD yet but what if the Carnis is signaling to the rest of its species, but it only wants to leave the planet instead of inviting them to conquer earth? Like it emerged in the 30’s and was frightened by what it saw in humanity, the suffering of the Great Depression, the massive world war where it’s meat snake extensions were being used as body disposal, and then the trimmings and spores being used for profit while nuclear annihilation hangs overhead during the Cold War? I know there isn’t a lot pointing towards this specifically but it’s just something that has crossed my mind. Also since you mentioned liking Doctor Who yesterday can I recommend you a very short analog horror video called Cyberman Maintenance Instruction Video? It’s nowhere near long enough to make a whole stream fun but you might enjoy watching it for yourself.

I like how the Vita Carnis seem somewhat realistic, like the creator had to have a bit of zoology knowledge in order to make their fictional horror story not feel like another shitty ARG. The trimmings have a sort of rodent-like reproduction due to them being essentially prey animals, the crawl being a type of plant that any animal can eat and spread, etc. Take out the living meat aspect and a good portion of already existing flora and fauna do that type of thing in real life.

(Ramble warning ahead, pretty much just infodumped about the workings of toxoplasmosis after the convo on it happened and I went to go research how it actually works. It’s quite fascinating and I’m sure there are lots of autistic individuals here who’d love to learn about it! But I’m also sure that most people don’t wanna read paragraphs of information about a parasite that lives in cat feces so yeah, just making it clear that that’s what this comment unintentionally ended up being lmao) 1:44:44 Oh yeah also, just went and looked it up some, but toxoplasmosis CAN actually be harmful to humans; apparently the way it works is that it nests as cysts inside your brain or lungs, and it often will just remain dormant, but in rarer cases it can cause flu-like symptoms (swollen lymph nodes, headache, muscle aches, fever), eye/vision problems, and even neurological issues. Can even occasionally cause seizures. But, in the majority of cases, people don’t even realize they have it because they are asymptomatic. It also doesn’t necessarily make you like cats more-it is theorized to, but I don’t think it is actually proven to do this with humans. It does do this with rats, however! Rats get totally fucked by this parasite, they completely lose any fear of cats and even show an attraction to them, hence why people tend to assume it does the same for humans. The main reason that it is so prevalent within cats is because they’re the only organism it can sexually reproduce in (it’s gross I know. Don’t overthink it), so it reproduces at a much faster and more reliable rate. It gets into their (and our) systems through consumption of stuff like raw meat and then just kinda… festers. It seems that about half of cat owners actually have the disease, and it is significantly less common in indoor cats than in outdoor ones, since indoor ones don’t have infected birds and rodents to hunt and eat inside their houses-so basically, you don’t for certain have this parasite if you own a cat, there’s a perfectly reasonable chance that you don’t have it at all and neither does your cat. But it is also not at all uncommon, and you may very well have it and just be asymptomatic. It’s kinda like fleas, it’s common for your animals to get, but if your pets stay inside then it is far less likely to come in contact with it. It can also cause minor symptoms that go away on their own after initial infection, but still stay dormant in the body for a very long time due to the immune system just blocking it. Like how vaccines utilize a version of the diseases to build your immune system to protect against them better. Essentially, if you’re decently healthy then you shouldn’t have any problems, but if you have pre-existing health conditions or obtain any in the future to weaken your immune system then the symptoms can remain problematic or resurface after a period of dormancy. Oh, after a lovely conversation with my mother I have just learned that she’s had it for years now and it has evidently been slowly deteriorating her eyesight because the eye doctors for some reason just went, “Oh yeah, did you know you have this? Yeah, you have this, there’s not much you can do about it just live with it I guess,” even though I can literally look it up on google and immediately find like five different treatment methods for eye-related symptoms so. that’s why she needs bifocals now, I guess. Thanks wonderfully helpful healthcare system- Anyways, yeah. It’s also linked to some neurological disorders like bipolar, schizophrenia, and even things like Alzheimer’s later in life. Also super fun!! But weirdly enough I’m kind of more okay with this than with it actually literally making me like my cats more. At least I know I’m not being influenced by a literal brain parasite to like my cat-only influence seems to be my own brain being hardwired to love baby-shaped critters lmao. That’s the main reason people love cats so much; they look and sound very baby-like, and humans are quite literally wired to have a protective and caring nature towards their young. Finding them cute and lovable makes it much easier to want to protect and raise them so that they can continue the species. (But seriously, if you own a cat and have eye problems that have been getting worse over the years, please check with an eye doctor about that if you can because it can literally permanently fuck up your vision and like tear your retinas and stuff. If you have it and the doctor doesn’t do shit about it or recommend anything on their own, push them for it, because istg healthcare systems are absolute bs and they literally will not do anything until it’s an emergency, when they very easily could’ve prevented the problems in the first place. Push them for treatment. Research on your own and point to the very clear methods of treatment that are available and actually get them to do something, even if it’s just referring you to another doctor or specialist that is more capable of handling it. Sorry if this reads a bit intense I’m actually pretty pissed right now that this fucked up my mom’s vision so bad and we literally didn’t even know because no one actually told us we could DO anything about it.)

2:56:57 the Wendigo is not just a Canada thing. It’s a SPIRIT (not a beast nor a monster) belonging to the folklore of Algonquian-speaking indigenous peoples (primarily the Ojibwe, the Saulteaux, the Cree, the Naskapi, and the Innu). Their territories - while mostly in eastern Canada - have extended south into Montana, Minnesota, and the Dakotas. The wendigo is a very culturally significant creature meant to show the consequences of greed. It’s the antithesis of reciprocity; the act of giving back to the earth what you’ve taken from it - which is a central moral pillar of many indigenous religions. I hate that the wendigo has been appropriated into a spooky cryptid, being essentially stripped of its original cultural message and erasing the people it came from.
