It gives the kid a few years time to sort themselves out and make an informed decision on whether or not to go through with transition, and so they're not forced to go through body changes they don't want. Surgery doesn't happen until MUCH later. If they decide that it's not for them, all they have to do is stop taking the puberty blockers! The only real drawback to using them is potential calcium deficiency, but that's easily countered by the calcium supplements you get in the pharmacy isle.

This is incorrect. Puberty blockers are not irreversible. The way they work, and the way we use them in our medical system, is that it pauses puberty while the individual takes time and decides what they want to do. Typically, under our current policy this is for about a year or so and usually no younger than 16. During this time the individuals receive mandated therapy to decide if they want to go through with these things. If you go off of puberty blockers, your puberty resumes. I know this because I’ve done it and have been through all this. Hope this helped.

Pierre is correct on this. It is a decision that must involve parents so long as they are the child's legal guardian. If the parents give consent to ANY treatment (this, that or other) it is theirs to give. Once the child reaches adulthood (or the legal capacity to make their own decisions), then the choice is solely theirs to make. Further to that, he is correct in that it is a Province's purview, not the Federal government's. Lastly, he is correct that Trudeau is using it as a "there there, look there (and not here)" tactic to avoid his own accountability.
