Wow - now that there's light, you can see how huge the space is. Hopefully the brick walls can be salvaged, maybe not all of them but a good chunk would be nice. Can't wait to see a section of the floor washed to see, what looks like, will be beautiful tile. Hope most of it is in good condition. Love tin ceilings, will be putting one in my kitchen when I redo it. Too bad there wasn't anything left from the "Bank" to repurpose. Maybe after you've been there a while, get to know some folks, maybe someone knows where a stash is that may have some old bank items, that would be cool!

We will be discussing plans when we know exactly what were going to do with it. Were taking suggestions while we prepare its basics. Thanks for watching!
@koningbolo4700
@koningbolo4700 Ай бұрын
@@DraysWorld Well I got a few suggestions: 1. I would bring the exterior back to when the building was a bank. All the windows restored. 2. The rear of the building I would look into how it would have looked like back when it was a bank. I can't image the steel stairs and gangway is original. What was there to begin with. Depending on what was originally there try to come up with what is practical and looking less like a fire escape. If no original drawings or pictures can be found I would change the staircase round to be accessible from the first floor, so the two floors are connected internally. Again, it would be nice to learn how the two floors were connected if at all... The staircase would then be best covered over with a roof and a door at the top. 3. On the upstairs I would use the nice wide corridor to make a full height storage wall against the brick wall with doors which match the style of the rest of the doors and trim. 4. I am not sure if it is possible to rebuild the lower fireplace. They always look great even if they do not work. 5. I assume the kitchen for the upstairs was the last room to the left (as one walks in from the rear entrance) before reaching the larger/living room. It would be a good idea to have the kitchen there again, possibly opened up to the living room. I would suggest using double pocket doors (again in the style of the doors which are already there) It would be great to be able to open up the kitchen or close it if need be. 6. From pictures online I saw the top roof has some pitch to it. That would make it slightly more difficult to be able to use it as a terrace/patio area, but what can be done more easily is (if the roof structure is beefy enough (now the structure is exposed it can maybe be beefed up if need be) a rooftop garden with herbs and vegetables maybe... A rooftop garden would make the roof a lot cooler in summer and warmer in winter...just saying... 7. The rear upstairs patio area is great as is. Maybe a green fence to get a little more privacy. 8. The upstairs layout is pretty much all there: bed room would be the first room on the left, an en suite bathroom next to it, then the kitchen and the living room would be the large room up front. 9. Build in storage in the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen can be built into the stud walls by moving the stud walls a foot or two... I think for a relative small apartment, build-in storage (rather then furniture based storage) would make the place feel far less cramped... 10. For the retail space on the ground level: well it is pretty much been destroyed over the course of many years and at least 2-3 different businesses. You could try to salvage the mozaïk floors but realistically that would be a humongous job at very little use in the end. If you can and if possible you could remove the mozaïk flooring (but I suspect it is down pretty good and hard to remove AND save... Yeah what to do below? At the very least try to track down a picture of the main entrance. ...that aluminum door thing is horrible in the scheme of things... Maybe one suggestion for the retail space: rather then one store/shop you could maybe help local people by renting out the space in different sections, even creating 2 extra smaller entrances (again in the style of the original building) on the side of the building... 11. Generally I would restore rather then renovate: So try to be as historical accurate as you can be: no modern (looking) features exposed, old looking trim, doors, windows, cabinets in the kitchen, an old range (possibly modernized of needed), a build in haybox in the kitchen for those slow cooking needs, a build in fridge rather then an exposed model. I mean all the creature comforts should be there but it should look (IMHO) like the apartment was built in (say) the 1910's or 1920's... You got a great project on your hands and your answer to your lady's question "Would you have?" being YES it suggests you know this full well... I wish you all the best, good luck and I hope you come up with a format for the channel to show the restauration. 12. If I may suggest a format I would try to do a large time lapse portion and a narration after the fact. or do several of those narrations in any video. That way you can truck along not needing to worry about if the video comes out good (time lapses come out good most of the time) and you can do what you want and need to do without being both the builder and the director/producer. Best regards from the Netherlands, Alexander.

There’s a little bit of lead-based paint, but everything else has been removed

In your first video you wondered about the material on the front of your building. Almost certain to be TERRA COTA. Glazed and high fired ceramic. I hope you restore it to the hilt. It would be great to know the manufacturer. Probably Eastern US somewhere and no longer in business but responsible for some of the most beautiful architecture in many cities. Good luck and open a bike shop down below.
