Another great video, loved watching. Couple of commits, how about running a single cold water hose to a under the sink instant hot water heater? One less hose to leak, understand you would need electric but figured you have it somewhere closer. Also one other thing when running long plumbing or electric line run a piece of twine with the first electric wire or hose and just leave it. Then if you need to run another wire or hose (can also pull multiples) you just attach it to the twine and pull it through. You can also use soap on outside of your hose or wire to make it easier to pull through. I have learnt many things watching your videos. Thanks again.
@OnboardLifestyle6 жыл бұрын
Our hot water system is driven by the starboard engine so 2 water leads are required. I totally agree with leaving "messengers" in the conduit and do so throughout the boat to pull wires. I don't use them on plumbing only because the hose is rigid enough to push through unassisted.

But I bow to your OCDness :). It has led to some wonderful finishes. Why didn't you T- off the H/C from the existing hose to the galley/shower hose and also attach a leader onto the first hose so the second hose is easier to thread? Just asking...
@OnboardLifestyle6 жыл бұрын
We have set it up so each fixture onboard is controlled at the manifold. By doing this we can turn on and off each faucet/shower without affecting any other onboard. By connecting with a "T" would link the leads and render the manifold useless. I agree that there are other ways to plumb a boat but I really like the control this system affords me.
@micahwatson90175 жыл бұрын
Why didn't you run the water lines from the manifold, through the master head board to the sink? It seams like a shorter route...
@SteelDoesMyWill6 жыл бұрын
I always thought 3/8 water line was better for Boats and RV's using a 12V water pump. I'm no engineer, but I thought that the smaller diameter is better for maintaining pressure (smaller interior volume requires less energy to pressurize). While its easy to understand that 1/2" pipe carries more water volume, a 12V pump just does not flow at a GPM high enough to justify that anyway, right? I'd rather trade off better overall pressure in the system for slightly less water volume any day. Teal, I think you illustrated really well that the decrease in water volume isn't even noticeable. Besides, we are trying to save water on boats at all times! I think this theory plays out best in the showers when you need good pressure but lower volume for water-saving shower heads.

BTW...what make and model watch are you wearing? PEACE OUT! Ü
@OnboardLifestyle6 жыл бұрын
I needed to conserve every inch of hose for a future plumbing project. The 33' calculation was just an estimate so I installed on at a time. We all wear Garmin Vivofit fitness bands and really like them alot.
@onthebeaches6 жыл бұрын
Well, you did quite well with measuring but maybe you didn't understand my question. Feeding both bitter ends at the same to would have allowed you to end up at the manifold. Then back at the sink you cut the hose twice. One for cold and one for hot. What you have leftover is one piece with no waste. GET IT?! Ü

Thank you for your reply. I am well impressed with your boats construction.
@dougmarder6 жыл бұрын
Onboard Lifestyle I have been wondering about this too as I watched you drill holes in various compartments in past episodes. As I understand it, Nida-Core has "low water absorption." "Low" meaning "not 0." Given that your attention to detail surpasses my own, I have to presume you have examined this already. I was also wondering about your habit of using only a single hose clamp on your plumbing end-points. Is the manifold above or below the waterline? Most "Good Old Boat" advice I have seen is to use 2 hose clamps on all plumbing below the waterline (especially on through-hulls). Maybe I missed where you did this elsewhere?
@OnboardLifestyle6 жыл бұрын
Our fresh water system is a closed system and is irrelevant whether it is above or below the water line. I will double clamp any fitting that are tied to a through hull fitting for sure but the fittings tied to our fresh water system can only leak the quantity that is in the tank. I will double clamp if possible but the PEX fittings in the video were not long enough so I single clamped them.
@nickcooper146 жыл бұрын
I cant believe to run a sink that is about 6' from the manifold. You have to run all over the place at a length of 35'. Somebody didn't think the location out properly. 8-P
@OnboardLifestyle6 жыл бұрын
To keep your plumbing from running straight through the middle of a cabin you build chases to accommodate so 33' is nothing on boat with a 25' beam. Believe it or not we have 49' leads to the galley sink and 61' leads to the washer/dryer. I had to measure the distance from the sink to the manifold after your estimate and it as actually 11'9" (all in good fun) ...Thanks for watching!

I think delaying your project because the hose is a different color is a bit nuts. I like watching your videos but not everybody can be as finicky as you are. Still, I appreciate all the effort you put into these videos.

I would rather Teal wait a few days to finish his project than have him obsess over color. I try not to question his method of madness. 🤪 he deals with my own crazy. Lol 😜😝😇....I'm an angel btw. 😉

OCD sucks. She should smack you upside the head when you do that.

if you would have done it TWO YEARS ago, you would not be running around trying to find the right *color* hose.

Can’t hold back anymore.... after watching your many many trips to the marine store I really wish you’d invest in a reusable shopping bag and stop adding more plastics to our marine environment. Once you actually start sailing and see how polluted some shores are you’ll understand how valuable your example can set.

Good advice.

Thanks, we are well aware of the plastic impact and we bring our old bag to reuse since we have it. We appreciate you bringing this up because it is a very important topic.
