Good morning Unfortunately there are lots of people who look to chickens just like animals who serve only to put eggs and to feed the humans on the grill. Layers chickens pass all of their lives cloistered in small cages just to put eggs. Happily there are some (few) people who love chickens and like you, madam, make an effort to show to the world with your amazing videos that chickens are much more than stupid animals. And such a beautiful chickens you have, ma’am. Have a very happy new year especially with a good health. Best regards from Lisbon, Portugal, on the other side of the world Pedro Fortes

Good morning (it's now morning here😊 ) Thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately people often have no idea where their food comes from or the true cost. I'm very grateful for the happy life I share with my chickens and for their precious eggs. Best wishes to you too 😊

Hello! Good to hear from you... Yes and they love helping to mix big compost piles too! It can cut down on feed as well. Thank you for the video. Take care!

I love this! El numero uno reason for us to get chickens is that we desperately need them to work over our acre. I have loads of scritching and bugging for them to do. Eggs is a bonus. I have six straight run French Blue Copper Marans arriving first week of June. We can't wait!

Chickens will certainly work the land over quickly, especially if you pen them into a small area at a time then move them on to the next bit. I bet you will find there are lots of unexpected benefits to having chickens. Enjoy! 😊

Thanks for another video. My chickens scratch for sure. They free range and make craters all over my yard. It's funny. I have two marans roosters now. Father and son. The drama has now doubled in my flock ha ha.

And then your Momma hen at the end starts with her left foot on the second scratch, lol! I have noticed mine do right foot first . Funny the things you notice when just sitting and watching for awhile. I'm fixing to go back and find your feeder video. The birds aren't so much a problem as the mice are now. Thank you for making these cute and very informative videos :)

That's funny isn't it! But yes, we can learn so much by watching our chickens. I have talked about those Grandpa's Feeders in several videos. These are probably the most useful. Wonderful info! I want chickens to make compost, as the guy on the Edible Acres channel does. It is right along the lines of your humane methods...

You have probably seen that I do it in a very small way kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2HImpl3rN6Fbtk With a good source of vegetation I'm sure it could be scaled up successfully. Best wishes 😊

Let your future chickens play in the compost pile, they go absolutely nuts over it and it helps to break up the large clumps when they dig.

I love all your videos so so much. Thank you for all of these wonderful and informative topics. I've watched each at least twice, and I really appreciate that you went through with the genetics videos. I had to move from my home state and brought eggs from the flock I left with my parents to hatch in my new state. It's a connection to home. While I was under mountains of stress after the move and additionally worrying over my unhatched eggs, I rewatched all your videos to do with hatching eggs. Just wanted to thank you for the great content!

Thank you so much, that's lovely to hear. And bringing eggs from your previous flock is a great idea. I actually tried to do something similar when we moved here - getting eggs from my favourite hen of my previous flock. I had given the hen to a friend so got three lots of eggs sent to me but unfortunately none were fertile. I guess she just didn't hit it off with her new rooster 😄

That's ALL my chickens want to do is scratch at the ground. They could have a gourmet buffet on a silver platter but the instinct to get out and scratch is more important. I guess for millions of years that activity was pivotal to their survival since we tall scary beings weren't always around to domesticate and care for their needs. It's not like they can fish for food their options are limited. Imagine looking for food with your feet your entire life. They have no hands so their strong legs and feet gotta do all the foraging. :D

They’re clearly looking for bugs (their preferred food) birds don’t eat seeds, they have no teeth. It just passes right through them un digested. So if you’re feeding them seeds they’ll be malnourished and looking for nutritious bugs.

@@leeboss373 I agree chickens LOVE meat, they turn into ferocious dinosaurs when presented with flesh. Being omnivores they can process pretty much anything. As far as consuming grains they can do that too with help of stones in their gizzards. Trust me I look at my chickens poop daily and even seeds are fully processed. They are pretty much two-legged garbage disposals.

It's a bit of a mix, mostly arborists mulch (chipped up tree trimmings).

You're right chickens don't have teeth, but they have a gizzard which they use to grind up seeds. All the same, most of my chickens diet is layer pellets, not what they find for themselves 😊
