I got a handwritten letter from John Hillerman after I sent him a happy birthday letter for his 82 birthday. It read: Jackson- Thanks for the birthday remembrance. You are a very thoughtful young man. I am pleased you Enjoy ‘Magnum.’ He was a cool guy.

I had no idea he was American! I'm from London and can say he really nailed that English, upper class accent. Loved the character and the show Magnum PI. Also great in Blazing Saddles. RiP

@@billymadison5799 Yes John Hillerman was really a nice guy. When I was in Waimanalo Hawaii, I happened to stop where they were filming which was right next door to the Magnum PI- Robin Masters Estate, where there was a big open yard next to the tennis court they talk about on the TV show. I hung out for the day watching them film the episode called "Foiled Again" and was able to meet both John Hillerman and Tom Selleck. The big give away that they were filming there was the Robin Masters estate sits right next to a road and I saw the helicopter and the Island Hoppers multicolored van sitting across the road from the estate. It was a fun day that I will always remember. The Robin Masters estate unfortunately was bulldozed down over a year ago. Some guy purchased the estate, had it bulldozed and had 3 homes built on the property for a major investment. Kind of 😔 sad for the Magnum PI fans

It always felt strange to hear John (Higgins) Hillerman without the trademark british accent...rip ,John Hillerman was a major part of Magnum PI.. Its just so much him to speak british english..a very good actor ..
@Vikashar3 жыл бұрын
Even without the accent, he speaks with the careful eloquence and enunciation of a refined British gentleman. He also looks that way, stereotypically. There is just nothing about him that makes me think Texan

@@Vikashar I can hear a slight drawl. It sounded like when he studied to be an actor that he had to take the "South out of his mouth."

The great John Benedict Hillerman (December 20, 1932 - November 9, 2017), the American actor, who portrayed Jonathan Quayle Higgins III on the hit television series, Magnum P.I. Hillerman served four years in the United States Air Force (1953-1957), in a wing of the Strategic Air Command, and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He became interested in acting after working with a theatrical group in Fort Worth, Texas, during his service.

Oh yesssss! Yes! Why...this reminds me of the time I was serving in Her Majesty's 754th Fusiliers. Our base was in Lahore...in Central Punjab. And of course the local punjabis were simply inspired cricket players and we enjoyed many well contested matches.

The character clash and comradery between Higgens and Magnum made that show popular. Higgens was the straight guy all prim and proper and Magnum was the slob and cut up. Kind of like Laurel and Hardy.

Wonderful! I'm English, and John Hillerman did fool me. Yes, the Higgins character was overly pompous, but I never thought that an Englishman wouldn't play that role. They also imbued him with decency. There are historical links between the south-west of England and Texas.
