Letchworth State Park Fishing Vlog/Guide!

In this video I display the aesthetic beauty of Letchworth State Park in upstate New York and show where to fish! Fishing in Letchworth is nothing spectacular, but the massive waterfalls and shear beauty make the park a definite must-see! Note: this video was filmed in May of 2017.
In this video I bring you too St. Helena, the Trout Pond, Inspiration Point, Lees Landing, and all of the overlooks in-between!
Fishing the Genesee River and the Letchworth Trout Pond. I landed a wild smallmouth bass in the river and several stocked brook trout at the pond.

I was actually gonna ask that and am glad I read the comments before I did , we are catching trout pretty good right now and the pike have been in pretty well already too here in northern pa

They don't let you fish the Reservation until May 1st but I'm sure they are in there! Definitely going to miss fishing the spring walleye/steelhead/smallmouth/panfish/catfish run in WNY this year. The month of May is my favorite time to fish!

Some of my favorite local spots in this video! Always catch a few smallies over 20" out of the river each year. Wish they still stocked brookies, but I think its only browns now in the pond. Haven't caught a brookie there in years. I had no idea you did anything with Letchworth! I literally grew up around the corner from here. Now that you're back up here in NY, maybe we'll see each other on the river sometime! The road to Lee's Landing has been fine for the least couple of years. Occasionally, it has a washout but is usually fixed pretty quickly. In the last couple of years, low water levels have kept the rafters from getting much enjoyment out of the river. I was raised on a farm near this park entrance.Glad to see the pond is back.The pond was drained to nothing about 4 years ago.They must have brought it back.I remember some huge trout under that awning you were fishing on.That was in 1961.Went fishing there with my father. Good Memories!

Hey Cray, I work with the rafting company, Adventure Calls Outfitters. The road down to Lee's Landing started to collapse in April of 2017 and has since been closed. The park is waiting for funding for the repairs. We are still rafting the river but launching from a different location.

Oh man, thanks for the update! Hopefully they get the road fixed this year, Lee's Landing is my favorite fishing spot in the park. I'm glad you guys are still able to do your rafting trips! One of these years my friends and I will have to book a rafting trip down there, it looks like a blast!

I'm aware haha, I need to find out where your fishing! I get a lot of action in the Genese, but seldom do I catchy any big smallmouth, usually they are under 12", I was happy with the 15" smallmouth in this video lol. They fight so hard in the Geny, I cant even image what it would be like to hook into one of the 20 inchers that you catch! That being said I've only ever fished Letchworth and the dam in Belmont. The Alleghany River I've hiked/paddled all over the Olean area, I don't get any action at all east of the SNI!

What about trout fishing outside of the park ?

Haven't fished much in that specific area outside the park but I know they stock the heak out of the Genesee River above the park as well as some of its tributaries. I've also heard there are a few streams surrounding the park that have natives in them. Not too far from there is the Cohocton River which is also excellent trout fishing.

Someone told me that the waterfall on inspiration point is the tallest in the state, but because its intermittent the actual title goes to taughannock

Is this "David George Olson"? And yeah I believe it! Inspiration point is one of the highest points in the tallest gorge in the state, makes sense when you think about it! I wonder if there is a few of the waterfall from the other side of the gorge.

This is David George Olson haha. the other side is pretty cool we did some surveying for HWA over there back in 2015, the road is pretty rough to get down though

Tyler Smith good to know. Years ago I remember seeing some real big ones spawning. Haven’t seen any big ones in there in the last few years though, in a tiny pressured pond like that they have to be really smart to get big!
